Chapter 50 Humble Love
Elena watched Hassan's tall figure walk out the gate, feeling a huge weight lifted off her chest, she sighed in relief, about to sit down.
Hassan suddenly returned, walking a few steps towards her.
"Listen, you are never allowed to take any contraception again. If I see it again, you're done for!"
Elena stared at him dumbfoundedly, blinking her eyes after a long pause.
She thought the matter from last night had already passed, unexpectedly, he still remembered it so vividly. He was truly a grudge-holding man.
"Understood!"
Elena lazily responded, holding a pillow in her hand, almost wanting to throw it at him.
Seeing Elena obediently complying, Hassan finally left contentedly.
Elena quietly lay on the bed, sunlight pouring into the room through the window, casting a soft glow.
The bedroom was designed very well, almost three sides were exposed to natural light, with a luxurious floor-to-ceiling bay window. Sitting on the windowsill, one could see the blue sea in the distance, while on the other side, the bustling city could be seen.
Elena's gaze fell on the two crystal lions on the bedside table, one white and one purple, shining brightly in the sunlight.
Especially the purple one, exquisitely crafted, it appeared domineering and arrogant. The white one, with rougher lines, seemed docile... it even resembled a puppy a bit!
William's smile once again appeared in her mind, but his passionate kiss with Chloe deeply hurt her nerves.
Elena got up, took the white crystal lion in her hand, and barefooted, walked to the windowsill. Slowly, she pushed open the glass window and aimed the crystal lion at the distant rocks...
Goodbye, Senior William; Goodbye, the once seemingly unachievable beautiful romance!
Now William has someone else, he no longer needs her, so why does she keep holding onto this illusion?
Elena closed her eyes, raised her hand, about to throw it down, when she heard the sound of her phone behind her.
Elena tightly gripped the crystal lion, hesitated for a moment, then put it back on the bedside table, reached out for her phone, and pressed the answer button.
"Hello, this is Elena..."
"Ah...
"Elena, come quickly..." After hearing Sarah's heart-wrenching scream through the phone, it quickly disconnected, leaving Elena feeling unsettled. She was certain something had happened to Annie. Changing into a different set of clothes, Elena grabbed her phone and rushed outside.
"Noura, prepare the car. I'm going to the hospital."
"Yes, Miss Walker!"
Throughout the journey, Elena anxiously urged Noura to drive faster.
As the car came to a stop at the hospital's entrance, Elena couldn't wait and hurriedly dashed out.
Right at the hospital's entrance, she ran into a distraught Sarah.
"Elena, something terrible has happened..."
"Mom, has Annie's condition worsened?"
Elena hurriedly ran towards the ward, with Sarah struggling to catch up from behind.
Elena quickly arrived at Annie's hospital room, pushing the door open, only to find an empty bed with no trace of Annie.
"Elena, why did you run so fast? Can't you let Mom finish speaking?"
After all, Sarah couldn't match the youthful Elena, gasping for breath in her high heels as she caught up, sweating profusely and eventually sitting down on a chair.
Anxious, Elena looked at Sarah and said, "Take your time to explain, don't rush!"
Sarah wiped the sweat off her face with a handkerchief, dejectedly saying, "The Robinson family found out about this!"
"What?"
"Annie was taken away by people from the Robinson family..." Sarah looked completely helpless, deeply affected by her two daughters' consecutive misfortunes. The once proud and elegant face now revealed signs of aging and fatigue.
Her eye sockets were visibly dark and swollen, with a greasy sheen on her face, and her makeup slightly smudged.
"This morning, I was about to buy breakfast for Annie when several bodyguards barged in and took her away. I couldn't stop them. Later, that wretched Daria called me and said that I've completely ruined the reputation of the Robinson family, claiming that Annie was ruined because of me..."
Sarah choked on her tears. Annie was her only source of pride and reliance, and now that she had lost her, she didn't know how to go on living.
"I have always provided the best education for Annie since she was young. I hired the finest private tutors for her and ensured she had the best of everything. All of this was because I was afraid of being blamed by the Robinson family. Tell me, where did I go wrong?"
People passing by in the corridor looked at Sarah with curious eyes.
Elena quickly supported her and walked her out of the ward, closing the door.
She took a tissue and gently wiped away Sarah's tears. Squatting in front of her, Elena earnestly said, "Mom, don't be afraid. Although Annie is your daughter, she's also mine! Since Annie isn't by your side, I will take responsibility and take care of you as you age."
Sarah looked at Elena, her eyes filled with a mix of relief and gratitude.
Deeply sighing, Sarah said, "Elena, Mom knows that you've suffered so much all these years, always compromising for Annie. Perhaps deep down, you blame Mom for favoring Annie, don't you?"
Elena bit her lip, unable to deny it. After a moment of silence, she muttered, "I don't blame you for favoring her. Annie is my only sister, and I do love her. I just... didn't like it when you abandoned Dad."
A trace of sadness flickered in Sarah's eyes, but she didn't argue. "I knew you would think that. I don't want to discuss your father's affairs anymore. It's something adults deal with, and you won't understand right now. One day, you will."
"Now, what do you think we should do?"
"Does the Robinson family know about Annie's injury?"
"Yes, somehow the news got out. Some gossip magazines in the UK published a few small articles exposing Annie's secret identity as an illegitimate child. So, in order to show her magnanimity as the legal wife, Daria intentionally wanted to bring Annie into the Robinson family and have her recognized as a legitimate member..."
"Mom, maybe this is a good thing for Annie! After all, she is the heiress of the Robinson family, and she should regain the treatment she deserves."
Sarah sighed and shook her head. "Silly girl, you don't know how cunning Daria is. Year after year, whenever we went to the UK, she never allowed Annie to step foot into the Robinson family. This time, when Annie goes back, who knows what she'll make her endure. Annie's mind is already unstable after such a shock, and Daria might even pose a threat to Annie's life."
"Mom, don't worry. When I find the time, I'll accompany you to the UK. If Annie doesn't have a good life in the Robinson family, we'll bring her back."
Elena spoke lightly, but Sarah could only force a smile and shake her head.
Grandpa Robinson is already old and no longer involved in the affairs of the Robinson family. Now, everything is under the control of his wife, Daria.
The power of the Robinson family in the UK is unparalleled, and with just Elena, there is simply no opportunity for her to enter the Robinson family.
However, since things have come this far, they can only proceed like this for now.
"By the way, Elena, that doctor William was in the ward at the time, asking about Annie's condition. When the bodyguards came to take Annie forcefully, he tried to stop them and was injured in the process. Now..."
As soon as Elena heard this, she stood up abruptly. "Is he seriously injured? Where is he now?"
"I don't know how severe it is, but you should go see him! This Dr. William is really a good man. He took a blow to the head when they attacked Annie..." Sarah prattled on.
William was praised by the crowd.
Elena couldn't sit still and rushed out directly, without pausing, heading straight to his office as the dean.
At the office door, she saw a tall figure dressed in white, having a conversation with two doctors. There was a white bandage wrapped around his forehead, which was quite conspicuous.
Upon hearing Elena's footsteps, William turned around and gave her a slight smile.
"We'll discuss this plan later. You all should go and work for now."
"Yes, Dean William!"
The two doctors left, and William strode towards Elena, his long white lab coat draping in the wind, his face adorned with a warm and sunny smile.
Just like before, it was their first meeting.
It was also in this hospital, where he stood before her dressed in a white lab coat, resembling a mighty angel.
Facing her helplessness, he gently asked, "Little sister, how can I help you?"
"Elena, you came!"
His clear voice approached her, interrupting Elena's past memories.
Elena looked at him sadly, stood on her tiptoes, and reached out to touch his forehead. "Does it hurt?"
He didn't move, his face carrying a gentle smile, allowing her gentle fingers to touch him lightly. It felt very comfortable, like a small feather gently brushing her heart.
"You're quite well-informed. It's just a small injury..."
"Why did you act so foolishly? Didn't you think of calling the police? Do you think you're a superhero?"
Seeing him injured, she felt a pang of pain in her heart, as if it were her own wound.
"What a fool! I was a bit anxious at that moment. I promised you to take good care of Annie..."
Elena's eyes welled up with tears. Did he sacrifice even his own life to keep his promise to her?
"Don't be foolish in the future! Doesn't the hospital have security guards?"
William stared intently into her eyes, suddenly becoming bright, like brilliant stars rising in the dark night.
"Elena, are you worried about me?"
Elena was slightly startled. Yes! Why was her first reaction to his injury so sorrowful?
Could it be that she still couldn't let go? Even though he already had Chloe.
Like being electrocuted, Elena withdrew her hand, and a blush appeared on her delicate face. Her hands twisted together anxiously.
"Elena, do you like me, right?"
William's tone was very urgent, as if he had just confirmed something. Excitement mixed with an inexplicable joy on his handsome face.
Yes! I do like you!
Elena raised her shy eyes and met his starry gaze. A strange feeling flowed through both of their hearts.
Perhaps this was love, even without hugging or being affectionate.
As long as they gazed at each other, they could see each other's eyes and hearts. That's love!
"Dr. William, the surgery is about to begin. Please get ready." A nurse's voice interrupted their moment.
The gentleman behind reminded him.
William finally woke up from the radiant sunshine and smiled apologetically at Elena. "Wait for me, just half an hour!"
Elena gazed dreamily at him as he left, like an angel in white.
She couldn't retract her gaze for a long time.
"Miss Walker, do you like that man?"
An icy voice sounded in her ear, and Elena quickly turned around to find Noura quietly observing her.
