Chapter 91 Death for Those Who Harm Her
Julia slowly regained consciousness from her dazed state, reaching up to touch her head. She used her hands to prop herself up and sat on the ground.
It hurt so much, as if her whole body had been broken apart.
A pair of shoes entered her sight, and she remembered that it was the owner of these shoes who had kicked her hard just now. She anxiously retreated, both hands supporting herself while raising her head to look at the man in front of her.
The man's towering figure gave her an immense sense of oppression. Although his face was very handsome, there was a deep, unfathomable darkness about him, like Satan in hell.
His deep eyes narrowed, and his killing intent made her too afraid to speak. In front of him, she felt like an insignificant ant.
"Who are you? What do you want to do? Do you know that assaulting someone is illegal?"
Hassan, sparing no words for such a woman, gestured to Nabil with a glance.
"Why did you hurt Miss Walker?" Nabil asked.
Through these two tall men, Julia caught a glimpse of Elena hiding behind them.
As soon as she saw Elena, she recalled her mission and thought of Chloe. She straightened her back, used the wall for support, and slowly stood up.
"Elena, listen carefully. Don't think that I'm afraid of you just because you have two men as your helpers. If you don't leave here, what I sprayed on you today was just pepper spray, but next time it might be sulfuric acid!"
Hassan's eyebrows tightened, his face filled with displeasure, but he remained silent, his gaze darkening. He coughed lightly, stopping Nabil's action.
Turning around, he walked towards Elena.
"Take a leave of absence, don't come to work for the next three days."
"No, I'm not afraid of this woman!" Elena argued.
"Do you want her to pour sulfuric acid on you?"Hassan asked with a gloomy expression.
"She wouldn't dare!"
"Are you challenging her courage with your own body then?"
"Oh well!" Elena glanced at Julia, who had a smug look on her face. She had brought two men with her but didn't dare to fight. Let's see if I can make you regret it.
Although Elena didn't think Julia would actually dare to throw sulfuric acid at her, she still followed Hassan's advice and decided to go home and rest for three days, taking the opportunity to visit her mother.
Elena bought a bunch of snacks and fruits, standing at the doorstep with Evelyn.
"Melissa!"
After calling twice, Melissa hurriedly came out. "Miss is back! Come in quickly!"
"Where's my mom?"
Elena walked into the living room and placed the things on the table, but there was no sign of Sarah.
"Miss, your mom has been coming back very late recently, probably not until seven in the evening..."
"So late? Is she busy like this every day?"
"Yes, she's been working really hard lately. She leaves at 8 in the morning and comes back at 7 in the evening, complaining of backaches and fatigue every day. To be honest with you, she has lost a lot of weight recently. I wonder what kind of crew she's working for; it's so exhausting." Melissa chattered non-stop.
"Ah, I'll wait then."
"Why not have dinner here, miss?" Melissa eagerly suggested.
"No, don't prepare my portion. I'll go out for hot pot with Evelyn later."
"Alright, then you two can watch TV here. I'll go back to work!"
Evelyn took the remote and turned on the TV.
While peeling a pomelo, Elena chatted with Evelyn.
"Evelyn, where are you planning to intern?"
Supporting her chin with one hand, adjusting her glasses, Evelyn complained and sighed, "I don't have someone like William to help me. I've tried several hospitals but couldn't get in. I went to a few private clinics the other day, and coincidentally, one of them needed a nurse. I plan to give it a try."
"A private clinic? It's better to stay away from that! There are many illegal clinics now, where doctors practice without licenses and run away when something goes wrong. You'll be unlucky if you get involved with them!"
Evelyn frowned, "What should I do then? Can I just stay in school forever? Without internship experience, finding a job in the future will be even more difficult!"
"Wait a moment, let me call William and ask if you can get into Mayo Clinic!"
Evelyn lifted Elena in excitement and planted a kiss on her cheek, saying, "You're the best! Thank you so much!"
"Just giving it a try, it may not work, so don't get too excited!"
"Hurry and make the call!"
Elena dialed the phone, gesturing Evelyn to be quiet. Evelyn immediately quieted down.
"William, are you busy? It's not working hours, so I suppose you're not at the hospital?"
"Not busy! Aren't you supposed to be resting at home today? Or did you want to invite me for a meal?"
"I wanted to invite you to dinner, but I need your help with something! Evelyn can't find a good place for an internship, can she get into Mayo Clinic?"
"Well, let me check if there are any openings left. I'll get back to you tomorrow."
"Great! Thank you so much!"
"Oh, Elena, did you see Julia yesterday?" William suddenly asked.
Elena tightened her grip on her phone and asked in confusion, "What do you mean?"
"Well, Julia went missing yesterday. She didn't come to work today and didn't take a leave either. But I heard from the security guards that you two met yesterday morning, so I wanted to ask if you know anything about her."
"No! I did see her in the morning, but after I asked you for leave, I left the hospital and haven't seen her since."
Elena shook her head, feeling a sense of unease.
As soon as she hung up the phone, Evelyn grabbed her urgently, "Elena, come look..."
The TV was playing the news, showing a white figure lying on a riverbank outside the city, surrounded by people watching. In the distance, cars were approaching.
"Our latest update, a citizen found a female corpse by the riverbank. The deceased was wearing a white coat and had lost her left shoe. The identification card found with the victim bears the name Julia... The police are now investigating, and according to forensic examination, the victim died within the last 24 hours. We welcome any valuable information from the public, and we hope the victim's family will come forward to identify the body..."
In Elena's mind, a thunderous sound seemed to ring, leaving her stunned.
"What a doctor! She must have committed suicide after a failed operation!" Evelyn exclaimed. Being a doctor now carries too much pressure. Sometimes, even the slightest mistake could lead to the patient's family causing trouble in the department. Some doctors even get physically assaulted. It's not easy to be a doctor nowadays.
"Elena, what's wrong with you?"
Seeing Elena's pale face, Evelyn quickly shook her shoulders.
"Nothing, Evelyn. Just let me calm down a bit!" Elena seemed overwhelmed by countless thoughts.
Why did Julia end up dead on the riverbank? She warned Elena just yesterday. There's no reason for her to jump into the river and end her life.
After a while, Elena finally figured it out, and a cold feeling filled her heart.
"Melissa, I'm leaving!"
"Miss, Mrs. will be back in an hour. Please wait a little longer!" Melissa hurriedly followed.
Evelyn also got up and followed behind Elena as they left.
"No, Melissa, please tell my mom that I'll come to see her in a few days."
Elena hurriedly left, with Evelyn closely following behind.
"Elena, don't run so fast! What happened?"
Evelyn suddenly realized that Elena's mood had changed drastically after seeing the news. Could it be because the deceased was also a doctor and it scared her?
Elena suddenly stopped.
"Hassan, how can you be so proactive to pick me up today?" Elena hurriedly walked towards him, eager for his embrace. Hassan wrapped his arms around her shoulders and kissed her passionately. Elena responded absentmindedly and quickly pushed him away. "Hassan, there's something I need to ask you."
He held onto her waist and walked into the living room, asking, "What is it?"
Elena looked at him seriously, her expression nervous, and asked, "Did you kill Julia?"
Hassan's face immediately darkened, and he questioned, "Do you suspect me?"
Elena could tell he was displeased, but who else would have done such a thing besides him? She had witnessed him kill with her own eyes, more than once. In the underground auction, he took out three men without hesitation. On the pirate ship, he displayed agility and ruthlessness. And during Annie's rescue, he also killed, though she wasn't present, she had heard about it firsthand. This man was inherently evil and violent.
Perhaps it was because of his kindness towards her that she often forgot he was a merciless wolf. At this moment, a cynical smile surfaced on Hassan's cold and handsome face.
"Elena, luckily the police aren't here now. Are you going to reveal my suspicion of murder to them if they were investigating?" he mocked.
Elena bit her lip and replied, "But I don't know anyone else who would have a reason to kill her except for you."
