Chapter 82 He Tried to Change for Her
Elena was shocked. She never expected William to be hiding here.
"You… both of you conspired to deceive me?"
Elena was very angry. Her best friend and the man she liked used this method to trap her with their words.
Evelyn quickly stood up and adjusted her glasses as she explained, "That's not how it is. William came here to return your phone. He said he found it on the road last time, but when he came in, you knocked on the door. I wanted him to know your true feelings..."
Even Evelyn didn't expect Elena to completely cut ties with William. At the masquerade ball last time, Elena's smile was so radiant. She thought Elena still loved William, so she kept him here to eavesdrop on Elena's true confession.
Who would have expected this awkward result?
"I'm sorry, Elena, it's all my fault!" The phone had already been assembled, and he handed it to Elena.
"Even though you told me last time that we were impossible, I still held onto a glimmer of hope deep in my heart. I thought that if I treated you better, you would accept me. It seems like this expectation was just wishful thinking." William said with a bitter smile.
Elena took the phone.
Elena looked at him guiltily. In truth, her thoughts were in a state of chaos. But in order to crush his last hope, she had to make a painful decision. If they continued to be entangled, if Hassan found out, both he and she would suffer a fate worse than death.
"William, I'm sorry... actually... I already have a boyfriend," Elena said with great difficulty.
A flicker of shock passed through William's eyes, but he quickly calmed down; unable to hide the sadness and disappointment in his gaze.
"He treats you well!"
"What?" Elena asked, puzzled.
"This phone, I went all over S City and couldn't find a way to fix it. Later, I found a mobile phone expert who said this is a custom-made phone, priced at over ten million. This technology doesn't exist in the country..." William said in a low voice.
If Elena didn't have a wealthy boyfriend, it would be impossible for her to afford a ten million phone.
Elena stared in astonishment, her mouth agape, and as she looked at William's hurt expression, her heart ached in tandem. It took her a long time to realize that he was still waiting for her answer.
"He treats me well!"
"That's good! Girls like you deserve to be loved. Elena, if he dares to mistreat you, tell me, I won't let him off easily," William said seriously.
"I will!" Why were these few words so difficult to say? Elena took a deep breath.
"By the way, will you still come intern at my hospital? I really need an assistant!" With one last glimmer of hope, William couldn't be her boyfriend, but being able to see her every day would still be a blessing.
Elena hesitated for a moment. Right now, she needed money desperately she needed a job. She didn't want her mother to continue facing hardships.
"Will it affect your relationship with Chloe?" Elena asked cautiously.
"No, actually..." William paused for a moment here, "You can rest assured, I won't let you feel troubled. Now that you have a boyfriend, Chloe will no longer misunderstand you."
"That's good. Let me think about it!" Elena smiled.
"Okay, I'll wait for your answer!"
The same words were spoken, from the same mouth, but the taste was completely different.
Going from lovers to friends, it felt really strange.
It was only when William left with a look of disappointment that the atmosphere in the room gradually relaxed.
"Elena, you're so heartless! I almost saw William's tears just now," Evelyn said theatrically.
Elena remained silent, not knowing what she was thinking. Evelyn kept pestering her, and suddenly, Elena tapped Evelyn's forehead with her finger. "You calculated me like this?"
Evelyn timidly took a step back. "I'm sorry! I was wrong, you have to forgive me!"
"No, it's not that easy to forgive you. You have to make it up to me!" Elena persisted.
Evelyn scratched her head, feeling guilty. "What do you want me to do?"
"Well, how would you like me to behave?" Elena shot back playfully.
. The night grew darker, the lights in the beautiful dessert shop dimmed. Elena buried herself in eating a mango and papaya sundae.
Curiosity got the better of Evelyn as she asked, "Elena, that 10-million-dollar phone must have quite a story behind it. Do you plan on telling me?"
Elena glanced up, glaring at her friend. "Some things are better left unknown."
Evelyn shrugged, a hint of disdain on her chubby, baby-like face.
Elena quickly finished her dessert and stood up. "Alright, Evelyn, I have to go! I'll call you later."
"So early? Aren't you going to hang out for a bit?" Evelyn inquired.
"Elena, are you really planning to work at the Mayo Clinic?"
"I don't know, I need to consider," Elena replied.
"I think you should go. It's one of the most advanced private hospitals in the country. Take this opportunity to learn, it'll help you find a job in the future. Plus, if William ends up marrying Chloe, it'll be difficult for you to get in later." Evelyn advised her best friend sincerely.
"Thanks for the reminder, Evelyn! I'm leaving!" Elena gently patted Evelyn's shoulder, emitted a satisfied burp, and left confidently.
Watching Elena's departing figure, Evelyn couldn't help but feel a sense of awe. Who was the man that could buy her a 10-million-dollar phone? Could it be possible that she was someone's mistress? That couldn't be right!
Elena arrived at Hassan's magnificent mansion, stepping out of the taxi and slowly making her way towards the glass entrance. It was her first time coming back this late. Would he blame her?
With a mix of nerves and uncertainty, Elena entered through the glass doors.
Her eyes immediately fell on his figure. Sitting upright, a newspaper covered his face, preventing her from seeing his expression.
It wasn't until she reached his side and lightly cleared her throat twice that he finally removed the newspaper, revealing a handsome face devoid of anger.
"Did you have fun?" He calmly gazed at her.
Elena was momentarily taken aback by his reaction.
"Miss Walker, you're back. Have you had dinner?" Noura asked.
"No, Noura, I had ice cream with my classmates outside!" Elena replied with a faint smile. Noura nodded slightly, looked towards Hassan, and made a gesture with her finger, indicating that he had been waiting for her for two hours.
"Are you tired? Let me give you a massage!" Elena put down her backpack, smiled, and knelt on the sofa. Her small hands diligently massaged his shoulders.
"I'm hungry!" Hassan gazed at her with a hint of yearning. He had been waiting for her without having any food.
"Alright! Noura, quickly prepare dinner. I'm hungry too!" Elena said cheerfully.
Hassan narrowed his eyes, a hint of mockery flashing through. "Since when have you become so attentive to me?"
"Well, what do you like? I'm just trying to make you happy." Elena teased.
The playful banter between Elena and Hassan continued as they made their way to the dining table, temporarily leaving the mysterious story surrounding Elena's expensive phone behind.
"What am I like?" Elena went along with his demeanor.
"I like... you without clothes!" he said ambiguously.
Elena's face instantly turned red. "Why do you think about these things every day?"
He reached out and pulled her into his arms, then pinned her against the back of the sofa, enveloping her in passionate kisses. She weakly melted in his embrace.
Elena was in a good mood. He wasn't angry or troublesome towards her. This was how real lovers should be together.
Perhaps not everything was as difficult as she imagined. As long as she gradually tried, maybe she could slowly improve their relationship.
"Time to eat!" she softly reminded.
Reluctantly, he continued kissing her. "I only want to eat you!"
She laughed, "If you eat me, then you won't have anyone to argue with anymore."
"You, always causing trouble!" he exclaimed.
"I was wrong! Let's go and eat!"
In the restaurant, Hassan ate very seriously. He certainly seemed hungry, while Elena didn't eat much. She wasn't actually hungry.
"Where did you go?" he finally asked.
Elena smiled, "I went to see my mom, then spent the afternoon with friends at school and went shopping!"
"Shopping?"
"By the way, I also brought you a gift!"
Elena stood up, set down her bowl, and grabbed her bag.
Hassan furrowed his brows slightly. Did she really think of him while she was out having fun? Did this mean he was in her heart?
Elena took out a small black object from her bag, opened the packaging in front of him.
"What is this disgusting thing?" Hassan wrinkled his nose in disgust.
"It's a blackberry and dark chocolate smoothie! Have you tried it before?" Elena grinned at him mischievously. She had gotten it as an impulse purchase.
"This is the gift you got me?"
"Do you want to try it? It's really delicious!" Elena scooped a blob of the dark substance with a small spoon and brought it toward his mouth.
"No, I don't want to eat it!"
Hassan firmly refused to eat this blob of dark substance.
"Coward! You always make fun of me for being a coward, but it seems your courage is not strong enough either if you're afraid to eat this!" Elena purposely provoked him, while happily eating another spoonful herself.
"Who said I'm a coward! I'll eat it, I'm not afraid!" Hassan snatched the spoon, scooped a spoonful, and ate it.
It was cool and not as bad-tasting as he imagined.
If his temper wasn't so bad, and if his character wasn't so terrible, being together actually could be quite enjoyable.
