Chapter 34 The Devil Pushes The Boundaries
After Elena rejected him, he became slightly despondent.
Elena allowed him to lead her through the complex and intricate hospital building.
It was already late at night, and there weren't many patients. Nurses and doctors occasionally passed by.
They would stop and greet William.
"Good evening, Director!"
Director! When did he become a director? Elena's heart trembled slightly.
Well, it was only natural for him to become a director. He was young and had obtained numerous degrees, becoming highly renowned in the medical field. Moreover, this hospital was originally owned by his family and was handed down to him by his father.
But even though he became a director, he dared to hold her hand tightly in this first-class, large-scale comprehensive hospital, as if she already belonged to him in front of all the onlookers!
However, she knew very well that she was nothing.
She forcefully retracted her hand. William turned to look at her, his sparkling eyes dimming instantly.
"I'm sorry, Elena, I didn't mean to embarrass you. Did I make you uncomfortable?"
A bitter smile emerged on William's lips. Because he was worried, he held her hand and apologized casually.
Elena grew even sadder, biting her lower lip. "William, I'm just... I'm just really sad."
The director's office was clean and minimalistic. Other than the office and a large sofa, the space was divided into two areas with a bookcase and some medical instruments on either side, indicating what this man was usually busy with.
In fact, when he received the news of Annie's hospitalization, he was in the middle of an important medical conference.
It was precisely because Annie was Elena's younger sister that he pushed away everything that was not important.
"Come, have a cup of warm milk. It can help relieve stress." William considerately placed a cup of hot milk in front of her.
Elena sat on the sofa, holding the milk cup. The desolation and pain in her eyes could not be erased.
"Tell me about my sister's condition, please," Elena said, her voice filled with anguish.
William fell silent for a moment and then replied, "Alright, be prepared mentally."
Elena nodded, her pain evident.
"When the patient was brought in, she was in a coma. The conclusion from the gynecologist's examination was that she was a victim of sexual assault. It seemed like it was a vicious assault by multiple individuals, with severe injuries to her lower body. There were also several bruises on her body, burn marks from cigarettes, as well as bite marks and knife wounds. From the evidence, this appears to be a malicious act of harm."
As a professional doctor, William calmly stated these facts. He had seen countless injuries every day, to him, they were just injuries, without any emotional attachment.
However, Elena tightly bit down on her hand, unable to bear the pain as she cried out.
"Elena, these injuries can be treated. The only concern is that her mental state may be affected from now on. I suggest taking her to see a psychologist after she wakes up."
Elena nodded silently.
"And Elena, do you know why this happened to her? Did you inform the police?" William asked.
"No, please don't inform the police, it's pointless," Elena replied.
"Why? Do you want those criminals to get away with it? That wouldn't be fair to Annie," William spoke earnestly. In a lawful society, these wrongdoers should be dealt with by the law.
"No, the police are already investigating the car accident case involving Annie. But as for her assault, please don't tell anyone, at least not now. Let's wait until the police catch the culprits before revealing this matter," Elena pleaded.
William nodded solemnly. "I will discuss this with the plastic surgeon. Don't worry, there will be no traces of the injuries on Annie's body."
"Thank you so much!" Elena said gratefully.
"Elena, don't thank me, it's what I should do," William's voice became deep, his bright eyes gazing deeply into hers.
"Alright, I will go and see my sister in the hospital room!" Elena said.
"No need to go, I gave her some sedatives. She will wake up around eight o'clock tomorrow morning. It won't be of use for you to go now. Besides, there are nurses on duty, just rest here for a while!" William stood up. "I have a rest room here with a small bed, you can have a nap there. Tomorrow morning at eight, I'll have a nurse wake you up."
Elena immediately shook her head, "No, I can't sleep here."
A smile formed on William's handsome face and he asked, "Elena, are you worried that I may end up violating your boundaries?"
Blushing, Elena quickly responded, "No, that's not what I meant!"
The distance between the two of them was close, and she could detect a faint scent of aquamarine cologne emanating from him, along with a gentle masculine charisma that caused her face to redden and her heart to race uncontrollably.
"Elena…" William's voice softly and tenderly whispered in her ear.
"Do not be afraid, no matter what happens, I will be by your side."
Elena suddenly lifted her head and met his affectionate gaze, feeling moved and a wave of warmth in her heart.
It was as if time had traveled back to three years ago, when she was in a state of panic, and he gazed at her with the same tenderness, ardently telling her, "Elena, do not be afraid, no matter what happens, I will be by your side."
He truly loved her! Time was the best proof!
In that moment, Elena yearned to throw herself into his embrace and exclaim loudly, "I love you too!"
'The happiest thing in the world is when I fall in love with you, and you happen to love me too.'
Suddenly, the phone rang.
Elena lightly tapped her fingertip and opened the text message, only to find several assertive words written on it.
"Elena, I expect you to be in my bed within half an hour!"
