Chapter 29 A Crazy Counterattack
As Elena continued to read, tears continued flowing down her cheeks. Her heart was in excruciating pain.
Her vision gradually became blurred by the tears, yet her fingers mechanically continued flipping through the text messages.
What she saw in that moment was William's sincere and loving heart.
"Elena, it's been two hours. I don't know if you're coming, but I have to return to the hospital now. A patient is waiting for my surgery. If you receive this message, please don't go to the Rose Garden. I'll come find you tomorrow."
"Elena, Chloe's father fell ill. I have to make a personal visit. It's already midnight. Wishing you sweet dreams."
The last message was sent this morning.
"Elena, I ran into Chloe on the way. Her dress got caught and torn. I accompanied her home. At a fashion store, I saw a beautiful dress that I thought would suit you. I wanted to surprise you, so I had Chloe try it on. It didn't look good on her, so let's go together this afternoon!"
Dozens of messages crowded together, making Elena's eyes sore.
So, it was all a misunderstanding...
"Oh, why are you crying like this?" Evelyn quickly handed Elena a tissue.
Elena pushed her away, grabbed her phone, and swiftly ran downstairs like a gust of wind.
She was wrong. He did love her. She couldn't hurt him like this anymore.
She had to tell him that she loved him too, even more than he loved her.
"Move, move!"
Elena shouted loudly and continued to rush through the hall. At the school entrance, William's figure had long disappeared.
Rose Garden! He must have gone to the Rose Garden!
Elena hailed a taxi and hastily got in. "Driver, go to the Rose Garden! Please hurry!"
The half-hour car ride felt like an eternity for Elena. She anxiously looked out the window the entire way, her phone almost slipping from her sweaty hands.
At the entrance of the Rose Garden, Elena ran up the steps. The previously closed gates were now half open, filling Elena's heart with joy. He was indeed here.
As she pushed open the gates, she saw scattered rose petals on the ground.
They were the delicate champagne-colored rose petals, scattered along the path leading to the backyard.
Elena could imagine William's agonized expression as he crushed those petals in his hands.
'William, my senior…'
'I'm sorry, I didn't mean to. I misunderstood you. You must wait for me!'
In the silent and spacious rose garden, Elena was running around, feeling extremely anxious in her heart. She ran back and forth, only seeing petals floating in the garden, but not catching a glimpse of William's figure.
She ran out of breath, with sweat covering her forehead. Standing in place, Elena looked around, her heart pounding like a drum, yet she still could not see William's figure.
After a while, she caught sight of a slender figure in her line of vision.
William was standing in front of the rockery. Petals floated in his hand, scattering and drifting toward the rippling water.
His sad gaze and calm face all deeply pierced Elena's heart.
He must have been feeling very sad, not to mention very disappointed...
Just as Elena was about to run over, her phone suddenly rang.
Elena hurriedly answered the call, hiding behind a large tree.
"Hello, this is Elena."
"Elena, where are you? Hurry back, something big has happened to Annie."
Elena's mother's heart-wrenching cry came from the other end of the phone, causing Elena's ears to ache.
Something happened to Annie? Elena suddenly remembered Annie showing off her wealth at school this morning, and how she had angrily slapped her.
Could it be that because of this, Annie did something foolish?
Elena felt her legs go weak, her chest tightened, and all the strength in her body seemed to be drained.
"Okay, I'll be right there!"
Elena put away her phone, walked out from behind the tree and looked toward the rockery, but William was already gone.
A wave of sadness surged in her heart.
She wanted to explain things clearly to him, but there was no time left.
'I'm sorry, Senior William. I'll find you next time. Please wait for me.'
An hour later, Elena hurriedly arrived at Sarah's villa.
There was a police car parked in front of the villa, and several police officers stood in the courtyard, discussing something.
Elena walked in and Sarah rushed up in a fluster, her eyes swollen like walnuts, immediately blaming Elena.
"Where did you go? You're only coming back now? What are we going to do about your sister?"
Elena steadied herself first and helped Sarah sit down on the sofa. "Mom, don't panic. What exactly happened? Tell me clearly, we'll figure out a solution together."
Sarah cried and sobbed, wiping her face with a tissue.
"Annie... she's missing... What are we going to do? If something happens to Annie, how can I face the Robinson family?"
Sarah's makeup on her face was all smeared. Two police officers were standing in the living room. They kept going in and out of Annie's room, searching for something.
"Mom, take your time and don't panic. The police are here, they will find a way to save Annie," Elena said anxiously.
Sarah's words were incoherent and she was extremely worried.
"This morning… Annie went out in her car, saying she was going to buy you a motorcycle. She didn't come back at noon and I didn't pay it much attention. An hour ago, two police officers suddenly came, saying there was an accident and asked if I recognized this car." Sarah trembled and pulled out a photo from a folder on the glass coffee table.
Elena quickly took it and looked at it closely.
The photo depicted a bloody and brutal scene of a car accident, with a sports car crashed under a large truck which had overturned, and its cargo was scattered all over the ground.
The ground was stained with fresh blood.
Elena was horrified as she immediately recognized the familiar car.
"That's right, this is Annie's new car... Mom, where is she now?" Sarah shook her head in pain, her voice hoarse. "I don't know, the police found Annie's identification card and driver's license in her bag in the car, so they came to our house. Annie is missing, she's gone..."
Elena comforted her mother and said, "Mom, don't panic. Let's think positively. If Annie isn't in the car, it means she's safe. She might have climbed out of the car on her own and could be in the hospital now. Mom, don't worry, I'll go tell the police."
Sarah wiped her tears with a tissue and nodded blankly.
She was already overwhelmed by fear, and now Elena was her pillar of support.
"Officer, excuse me, I am Annie's sister. I would like to talk to you," Elena said to the police officer.
"Sure, hello, I'm Aaron Hamilton. I am very sorry about your sister's situation, but our police force will do our best to help you," the young officer said in a smart police uniform, his bright eyes shining.
Elena nodded and made two requests. "First, can you help me check in the hospital system to see if there is any information about my sister? And second, I would like to go to the scene of the accident. Is that possible?"
Aaron readily agreed, "Alright, I am the assigned officer for this case. I will take you to the accident scene."
Aaron turned to another female officer and said, "Jane, please check the hospital system and see if there are any new accident victims seeking medical treatment."
"Okay, Officer Hamilton, I'm going to handle it right away."
The police car brought Elena to the scene of the accident, which was already far from the city center. On the highway leading to the suburbs, the scene was already cordoned off, and all vehicles had to take a detour.
As soon as the police car stopped, Elena hurriedly ran towards the twisted red sports car that had been hit.
