Chapter 79 Chapter 79 - The Fibber

"Ella..." I could not finish what I was about to say.
"Where is Nicka?" asked the one at the door.
"She is asleep." and I glanced at the child in the bed.
"How is your girlfriend? I do not want her to feel horrible here in the Garden of Leto. If there is a problem, call me here right away." I reminded him.
"She is not my girlfriend! Eve, can we talk?" Nikolai abruptly begged.
"For what? About you and your girlfriend, we do not have to talk anymore." my timely response.
"No, I want to say sorry for my mistake to you and Gabriel!" he shook his head.
"I hope you understand why I need to fix my relationship with Fritz. I have learned my fault in the past. I do not want to lose another child." annexed by Nikolai.
"I have forgiven you for what transpired. I also realized that my anger can not bring Gabriel back. And one more thing, you are right when you say you are his parent too. And what I felt then, you feel the same way." my chest seemed to loosen after I said I had forgiven Nikolai.
I no longer harbor a grudge against him when it comes to the loss of our child. I was also a big part of what went on to Nikolai. I should not blame him if he already loves someone else. I am also at fault for him. I comprehended that we must not make judgments when we are not in the right state of mind.
"I did not look for you because that is what you asked me to do. I did it so that you would calm down and also so that you could forgive me. But Eve..." I stopped Nikolai from speaking.
"Let us not talk about the past, Nikolai! We can not change what has gone on. I already have a life of my own here in the Garden of Leto. And you, your life is different now. I never let Nikolai speak again. I closed my door and went back inside the room. My tears wafted! What am I against Fritz who will be the mother of Nikolai's child? Why should I let him choose if I already know his answer? I just have to move on with my life. It can not be deterred. Nikolai will be back in Manila in a few days.
The next morning, I did my regular rounds with the resort.
"This resort of yours is wonderful. Did Nikolai give you a fund for it?" I immediately turned away when someone uttered.
"You seem to be feeling well today. How can you say that Nikolai gave me a fund for this? Do I look like I do not have any money?" I asked Fritz with a smile.
"You let him pay when you became Nicka's surrogate mother. Therewith your baby, did he pay too?" she implored insultingly.
"If I were to tell you the reason why we had a child again, would you believe me?" I grimaced.
"Try to tell me and let us see if I would buy that." command of Fritz.
"We had a child again because we love each other. You? Does Nikolai love you?" I mumbled boldly.
"Do you love each other? That is why you are not together anymore. You love Nikolai that is why you were able to let him pay you during surrogacy. Nikolai loves you so he got me pregnant." it looks like this one is a fighter and plans to provoke me.
"You do not know what we have been through so do not titter and offend me with it. You also do not know what I have sacrificed for surrogacy." my ears are already heating up with Fritz's annoyance but I have to be patient.

"I will not whack you back because you are pregnant. And Nikolai is very concerned about your future baby. As I could see it, he is just after your baby! After you give birth, what would happen to you? What a pity!" I shook my head.
"You are overreacting!" and again she jabbed me harder than the first.
I tried not to flicker in my position. I saw Fritz abruptly move her body like the one she was being shoved and grab her belly and he seemed to feel worse.
"Hey! Are you okay?" and I touched her arm because she might be dizzy.
"What is going on?" a voice I know intimately.
"She pushed me!" Fritz complained.
"Eve, what is this? Fritz is pregnant why do you have to push her?" Nikolai immediately believed what she said.
"I did not nudge her. She was the one who push me. She felt bad so I held her." I told him what ensued.
"I could see that you were holding Fritz's arm and nudged her. You told me that we should move on." while Nikolai was able to support Fritz.
"Let's just go into the room. The service here at the Garden of Leto is not good." Fritz spoke again.
"Come on!" Nikolai consented.
And he assisted Fritz as they stepped away. Fritz even managed to glance at me and smile insultingly as if she was saying she won this fight. I cannot believe this! Nikolai acknowledged Fritz more than me. Now he tells me that he has no love for that woman. Fritz was a liar. She also did to me what she did to Nicka.
"Eve, why are you under the sun?" the newcomer implored.
"Hi, Phil!" and I let him smooch me.
"My morning is so stressed out so I guess the sunrise could loosen it up." I rested deeply.
"Why? Who gave you that stress? Where is Nicka?" and he seemed to be looking for her.
"Inside, with Ella." my answer.
"I hope you just decline the reservation of that Fritz here." and Phil led me to a tree.
"I did not know she is Nikolai's girlfriend and then she is pregnant with him." I am still not in the mood.
"Anyway, they are still your guests here. Be a little more patient and they are also leaving in a bit. Are you just fine? I can take over while they are here so you will not be in trouble." he proposed.
"I can manage, Phil, I have to be professional in this state of my career. It is also a good experience so I can improve as a business owner." I patted his shoulder.
I brought Phil inside to see Nicka. The two also get along very well. And Phil is very fond of children. So he was very heartbroken that we have lost Gabriel. We sat in the lobby while waiting for Ella and Nicka.

"Paul invited me." my short answer.

"Paul did not do anything else to me but pure goodness and kindness. I will accompany him to your reunion. So that your other relatives will not talk about him anymore." I clarified.
"Give him a chance," he told.
"You are asking for a chance. Paul does not tell me anything about the feelings you are forcing that he has on me. I think Paul is just a nice guy." I even touched Phil's arm.
Later, Ella and Nicka also arrived. Nicka joined Phil so they can play outside.
"She is a liar!" I whispered to Ella.
"Who?" she instantly begged.
"That Fritz! She told Nikolai that I pushed her. But the truth is I supported her because I thought she was dizzy. You know Ella, she let out that I was only chasing Nikolai for money because he paid the surrogacy." I am still feeling bad about it.
"And did Nikolai believe her? Perhaps that woman is the gold digger so she can not depart from Nikolai even though we all know that he still loves you." disgusted Ella mumbled.
"Everything seems to have changed, Ella. I just thought probably everything is just the same over time. By the way, things are the same for me. But for Nikolai, things have altered. It is my fault, yes. So no matter what is transpiring today, I dragged Nikolai into it." I tilted my head to Ella.
They say, the truth will set you free but the truth damages and cuts like a knife. And sometimes it even leaves a scar. The scar that will always remind you of what occurred in your life.
