Come back
Chapter thirty-nine
Ryder
I made it brief. I pull away almost immediately, praying she doesn't hit me or scream or try to move again.
"I'm sorry ok. There was nothing I could do to make you stop talking," I started, as I stare down at her brown eyes. Those eyes remind me so much of what I want to protect.
I seriously want to protect this woman with all my life. I want to make her happy. I want to do everything I can in this life to make sure she moves higher than she can ever think.
And she will be mine, and mine alone.
"I know I'm not what you think I am. But I want you to listen to me. Perhaps, you will see it clearly that I'm trying my best to protect you."
She blinks once as she stares more. Though, I'm unsure of what she's looking at.
"I know I couldn't protect you from Mimi and I'm really sorry about it. Just look into my eyes and see that I'm telling you the truth at this moment."
She sniffs and looks away, " What do you want from me now?"
" I want you to come back home. Everyone misses you."
She didn't look at me or answer me.
I watch her for a moment before I tilt her head up with my finger.
"I need you most especially."
She blinks once as if she couldn't believe her ears.
"I know you might be wondering the type of relationship between me and Mimi. But I was really telling the truth when I said there was nothing."
" Yes, you caught us having sex but there was nothing more than a contractual relationship. And I was forced. I couldn't do anything but accept her proposal."
" Why don't you let me go," she whispers.
I slowly let her go but she's still looking at me, "I can't, I," I think quickly if I really want her to know how much I love her.
Is it time to tell her I don't ever want to lose her? That I want her to be mine?
Gosh, I don't even know if she believes my every explanation. What if she rejects me? It will be too much for me to handle.
"I just consider you as a friend and I won't like it if we are like this."
She smiles softly, " Like what?"
I smile too, glad she's finally opening back to me. Even if she still doesn't trust me, I believe she might with time.
All I need is time and patience.
"I don't want us to quarrel. And I want to send you to school. I want you to pursue your dream and be someone great in life."
" Why?" I raise a brow at her statement, " Why do you want to help me?"
"I like you, Gwen," I tell her instead, "I like to help everyone that worth it."
She smiles again, "Really?"
I nod briefly, "Yes, I'm saying the truth. I also want you to be happy. So guess what?" I say happily, to clear the atmosphere.
She blushes slightly, " Guess what?"
I pinch her nose slightly, "I just told you to guess."
She laughs, " ok. Did you just win a match?'
I shake my head negatively, "No, that's not the case."
"Hmm," she put a finger on her chin, "What can it be? Did you get a new car?"
I laugh, "No but close to it."
She chuckles, " I can't seem to find the answers. Can you just tell me what it is?"
" Ok, I just got a new house and it is very beautiful. It's unlike the first one."
" Really?" Her eyes sparkle excitedly.
" Yes. Also, Mimi has traveled back to the state."
I hope she will be able to follow me back home now.
"Oh, that's good. Is it that beautiful?"
I nod briefly, "Will you like to check it out?"
An expression flicker across her face. I hold her hands in mine, "Don't you worry about Mrs. Johnson. She knows about this."
She looks up at me again, her eyes go wider and her Iris seems to darken.
She smiles, "Let's go then."
We walk out of the house and I turn to look at her again, "I will show you on one condition."
"What again?"
" You will be back and continue working for me. I will pay you handsomely.
She laughs, "Alright, I will love that," she dips her left hand into her side pocket and bring out my black card, "I wanted to return this to you."
I look at the Black Card for a while " Why?"
She gives me a skeptical look instead, "Isn't it yours? I'm only returning it to the rightful owner."
I keep a straight face and look away, " The card found the rightful owner couple of days back," I turn to look at her face, "it's now yours."
