Chapter fifty-six
Gwen
My eyes went wider as I stare at him. What's he doing here? I thought he left.
And the door did open the other time. I heard it and someone went out.
My eyes went wider as my mind finally settles on something. Myra was the one that went out the other time and Ryder was the one that stayed.
Ryder walks out and moves to the bed, "I knock on your door but you didn't reply," he picks a trousers.
I turn around quickly so I won't see him get dressed. What the fuck did he think he's doing?
I should leave already, "I'm sorry for intruding, I will leave now."
I take a step before a hand holds me back. Ryder moves to my front. He's in his trouser now and that's all. His chest is still dripping with water.
I look up at him so I will stop looking at his chest. Damn! How can he have such a nice chest?
"Did you intentionally ignore me?" He asks, his voice too calm for my liking. He was just like when he came to pick me up in Mrs. Johnson's house.
"I was sleeping," I lie and look away, unable to meet his eyes.
He steps back and peruse me, " Are you off somewhere?"
I nod briefly, "Yes, and I'm here to say goodbye. And that will be all," I take another step to walk away.
Ryder pulls me back again but this time, he turns me around to that I'm forced to cling to his body, forced to look at his bare chest or his broad shoulders.
I shiver at the action.
"Are you still not going to tell me something?" His voice says huskily.
I look up at him, " What are you expecting from me?"
" Then why are you acting like you don't need any explanation?"
I blush slightly, " That does not judge what you did to me. You played me."
His eyes widen, "How?"
"Why do you have to go such length with your cousin? Is people's emotional that you can just joke about?" I don't know why I have such outbursts but I've been dying to tell him.
Why did he have to pull that stunt?
"I thought you might not even like me."
"And yet, you kissed me?" I say softly, unable to place it in my mind, " Where were you kissing me then? Why did you tell me you did it all for friendship? Why was I the only one left out in this mess."
" Gwen, please. I don't mean for all this to happen. I sincerely don't. If you can just hear me out."
" There's nothing more to say. You've concluded!"
" Concluded on what?" He scream at me, "I wanted you and here we are!"
My heart suddenly feels so tight in my chest. He wants me?
" See Gwen, there are lots of things you don't even know. You need to let me explain."
I look up at him again, my heart betraying my head to leave. Strangely, I want him so much.
"Gwen, you don't understand this. I was merely scared you might not like older men. Well, you did tell me this some time ago. And im older, than you are with thirteen years. That's huge. So, I didn't want to come forward for fear of rejection."
He swallows harder, " But I have always loved you. I've always wanted you."
A lump suddenly formed in my throat and I had trouble with swallowing it.
"When you kissed me when you told me it was all for friendship. Was that true?"
He went silent for a while as if thinking of how to start, "Yes and no," he looks away briefly, "I've always loved you the first day I set my eyes on you. And I've searched for you everywhere before I got to find out Heidi is your sister."
" And I moved closer to her. I even offered to go to her school so I would see you but you had already left. I've been pained until you came."
I take a deep breath and look away. Yes, I told him I don't like older men but that doesn't mean he could pull that kind of stunt. What if something has happened to me with what he did.
In not angry, I'm just pissed off. Then I remember I have to meet with David. Gosh, I must have kept him waiting for so long.
Damn! I almost forgot about him.
"I have to be somewhere right now, in sorry," I didn't look at him as I made my way out of the room. He didn't try to stop me either.
I don't feel like leaving him like that but I'm upset and this is the only way I can show I didn't like all the stunts he pulled.
I could have called David and told him I won't be coming but I won't. I want to go out, be away from him.
He should know I'm upset.
I get Rock and Brews in no time. The moment I walked inside, a lady walk to me.
"You must be Miss Gwen," she says.
I nod slowly.
" Follow me," she says and starts walking away. I follow after for a while. I find myself walking inside the pool area. She stops by the entrance and looks at me, "You can go in now."
I nod briefly as a sign of respect before walking deep. I realize there is no one here. It feels like no one does come here.
Rock and Brew is a popular hotel and suite. Even Ryder does come here. It seems so weird and strange that it's empty.
"Gwen!" David called from afar, a smile on his face. I walk closer to him, skeptical.
"David! Why is everywhere so quiet and dry?" I look around anxiously, then back at him.
He chuckles, " I sent everyone out."
I raise a brow, skeptical, You did what?"
He laughs again, "No I didn't. I only ban the attendant from letting anyone in for now," he looks away and watches the pool.
What! That's strange. Only the owner of this place has the power to do something like that. There's no way the pool will be this dried because of someone's commands.
Wait for a moment! My eyes narrow as realization dawns on me.
"Are you David Page?"
He whips his head back to me, "You do know my name," he nods briefly and stand, " Yes, that's my name."
I follow after him, " You are the owner of Rock and Brews?"
He laughs, " Actually, it belongs to my father but I'm the only heir," he jumps inside the pool, even in his t-shirt and trouser.
Like seriously? I'm talking to the owner of Rock and Brew? Like, I'm honored.
But why is he so humble? The first time we met, he didn't even act so rich. I wouldn't have guessed he was something like that. Wow, I'm impressed.
He swims out, "Do you want to swim or stare for eternity?"
I laugh, "I was just surprised."
"Enough of my life! Let's talk about you."
Some waitresses walk in with a tray of different food.
There's a table and two chairs that have been especially for David and me.
David walks to the chair and I did the same.
The food fills the table that I barely see the table.
"So, what's your full name?"
"Gwen Brook."
I pick French fries and taste them in my mouth. It tastes so nice. Well, Rock and Brew's foods are always the best.
"Brook is your father's name?" David says suddenly.
I look up at him and I didn't miss the surprised look in his eyes. It seems like he just remember something.
"Was he Brook Larry?"
It was my turn to be surprised, "How did you know? That's my father's name."
" OMG! It's you! You've grown so big!"
I stare, still skeptical.
" Have you forgotten me so soon? I was your David at high school. Have you sincerely forgotten about me?"
Wait for a minute, it seems like everything is coming back slowly.
David was the guy I loved but I couldn't tell him about it? He was the one Heidi took from me and told me David loved me but he just couldn't say it to my face.
And afterward, he acted so strangely to me. He gave me attitude! No wonder he looks so similar.
But I didn't expect him to be the owner of Rock and Brews.
I don't think I came here to meet someone like him. I don't believe I'm here to meet Heidi's acquaintance.
And I was coming here as if it was something good.
I stand up quickly. He did the same, skeptical, "What's happening."
"I'm leaving! That's it! You can go back to Heidi and tell her you guys failed!"
" What the heck are you talking about?" He walks after me.
I turn to look at him, " Leave me the heck alone!" I whirl around but lose my footing.
David caught me immediately, pulling me to himself. He stares for a while and suddenly moves his head closer to me.
I know he was going to kiss me!
