Chapter seventy
Gwen
I open my eyes slowly. I feel dizzy at first and my eyes seem gummy.
I close it and reopen it. Then I can vividly see my surroundings.
The first thing my eyes went to is the fan rolling endlessly in the ceiling.
I wonder where I am. The last thing I remember is entering the pool.
Heidi came to me and apologize for all the bad things she had been doing to me.
I decided to forgive her. And then she proposes we go to the pool.
I didn't want to answer her especially now that students are leaving the school slowly.
There's no lecture for the day again.
But after insisting we go, I gave in to her.
I didn't know it would backfire. I didn't know Heidi would leave me in the pool.
I was scared and I thought I was going to die. Or maybe I'm dead already.
The door opens and Ryder walks in.
Seeing him ignite fire in me. I sit up quickly, "Ryder?" I call and wait for his response. Perhaps I'm really dead.
He looks up at me, amazed for a second before rushing towards me.
I end up in his embrace.
I cry against his shoulder.
He pulls back after a moment and soothe my hair, "How are you feeling now?"
"I'm fine. I was scared in the pool. I thought I would die," I sob again.
He pulls me into another tight hug, "it's ok. You are saved now."
I nod briefly, releasing an exaperated sigh. I'm glad I'm alive. I thought I was gone.
I pull back this time as I remember Heidi. I wonder what she's doing currently. Is she planning something else?
I must leave that school instantly. No, she might find me wherever I go. I must stop schooling.
I don't want to die.
"Gwen!" Ryder screams at once. I turn to look at him again, lost in whatever he was saying, "What are you thinking of?"
"Ryder, I need to stop schooling. I'm screaming of dying. What if Heidi comes back again?"
He sighs, " Calm down," he commands. He touches my shoulders and looks me in the eyes, " Heidi has been apprehended."
"What?"
"Yes. The CCTV captured everything that had happened. Her mother was also taken as an accomplice. I told the court about everything they were always doing to you and how they tarnished your image while you were still working for Rock and Brew. Steve testified to that."
Seriously? Is this really true? Will there not be any form of danger for me again?
"Yes dear, you are saved," he smiles at me, "you don't need to think about anything again and face your studies. I am going to protect you," he pulls me into another hug.
I smile widely, happiness clouding my soul.
I will finally be happy. I don't believe today will come off all day.
I will forever be happy. I got Ryder and I got my life back.
I will now be happy with Ryder. And I will be able to achieve all I thought I wouldn't be able to.
Myra
"Are you serious?" I ask Gwen again.
She laughs, "Yes! What do you expect me to wear?"
"Come on, this is better!" I say and throw her lingerie.
She picks up and blushes slightly, " Damn! Myra!"
I walk nearer and sit beside her, "I heard you got your money back."
She sighs, "Who would have thought my father left something for me. I thought he hated me so much."
The truth got exposed after Heidi's sisters were taken. They exposed the truth behind everything that wasn't clear to Gwen.
Actually, Brook gave her a share of his money but Heidi's mother kept it and used it to run Heidi's school fees.
She was told to return the money or go to jail.
Eventually, she went to jail with her daughter. Heidi was given twenty-eight years imprisonment.
It's a pity for both mother and daughter.
"I so much miss my father. I didn't know he loved me and I hated him till he died," Gwen sobs.
I pull her closer to me, " it's ok. Everything is ok. I'm sure your father isn't angry. He's aware of how manipulative your stepmother is."
She nods briefly.
I know she's going to be happy with my brother. They are going to make the best couple, I'm sure.
