Chapter 19 Possible Amputation

Elisa was about to close her eyes.
Robert took a tissue and wiped the corner of her mouth, smiling. "It should be cream from the dessert."
Elisa blushed and lowered her head. "I can wipe it myself..."
What was she thinking? Did she expect Robert to do something for her?
For Robert, their relationship was purely that of friends.
"Okay, let's continue. Since we both like this place, why don't we..."
"Ding!"
Before Robert could finish his sentence, the damn phone rang again.
Elisa angrily picked up the phone and saw that it was Simon calling again.
"What now?"
"Oh, I just wanted to ask where the fruit knife is."
Elisa turned away and muttered under her breath. "Can't you find it yourself?"
"You can just tell me."
"In the drawer!"
This time Elisa put her phone on silent mode and apologized to Robert. "Let's continue our meal."
But Simon wouldn't give up and kept calling.
Finally, even Robert couldn't stand it anymore and suggested: "Elisa, your roommate probably needs you for something. Why don't you go back first?"
"But..."
"Work can wait; we can still communicate through our phones."
Robert smiled gently like a spring breeze in March; Elisa couldn't resist him so she agreed.
That way she could also see what Simon wanted!
As soon as Elisa walked back to the door of Simon's ward, she heard him smash a cup while asking David impatiently: "When will Hillary come back?"
So she pushed open the door but before she could say anything he glared at her fiercely saying: "Why did you come back?"
"Why are you calling me so many times?" asked Elise with frustration in response.
"What? Are you annoyed because I'm interrupting your date or something?"
Seeing that they were about to argue again, David quickly pulled Elisa out of the ward.
Elisa took one last look at Simon. He was frowning as if he had something on his mind.
"What's wrong with him?" Wasn't he fine when she left?
David sighed and guessed: "It should be because of his leg injury. The doctor just came over and said that it has worsened and needs surgery again. There is a high risk involved, so if things don't go well during the operation, amputation may be necessary."
Amputation?
Elisa was completely shocked; she asked in disbelief: "How could it be so serious?"
"Two years ago, the doctor already said that Mr. Iverson's leg injury would most likely recur someday...and now that day has come..."
David couldn't help but get emotional while talking about this.
At this moment Diana also walked out of the doctor's office; she was crying uncontrollably and almost couldn't stand up straight. Elisa hurriedly went forward to support her.
"Hillary," Diana cried out loud, "why does God treat Simon so unfairly? He is such a strong person who works hard every day! How can God take away his legs like this?"
Watching Diana cry made Elisa feel very uncomfortable too.
Simon was young and promising; he still had a woman he wanted to marry. If he really needed an amputation, it would undoubtedly be a devastating blow for him.
No wonder why he got so angry earlier...
"If we don't have the surgery soon enough then there will still be no good outcome for Simon," explained David. "The doctors suggest that we persuade him to do it but no matter how much we try, he refuses to listen...Hillary please help me talk some sense into him."
Diana begged her with pleading eyes.
With heavy responsibility weighing on her shoulders, Elisa pushed open the door of Simon's ward.
The cups and pillows were scattered all over the floor. Elisa bent down to pick them up one by one, tentatively saying: "About the surgery..."
