Chapter 20 Who is it?

"Why? Simon, end things with me and marry my sister. Isn't that your wish?"
"You're right, but..."
Simon hesitated for a moment because the woman in front of him brought a sense of familiarity far beyond her sister! He didn't know why he felt this way, but whenever he thought about Hillary leaving him, he had a feeling of reluctance.
"But what?" Elisa asked curiously.
Before agreeing to end things with her, Simon had to figure out who the woman was that broke into his room that night... Was it really Elisa? There couldn't be any mistakes; he needed an accurate answer.
"Hillary, I have a question for you. You must tell me the truth. If you dare lie to me, I will make sure you pay."
Faced with his serious expression, Elisa became nervous but nodded and said: "Ask away."
"Last Saturday night last month did you go..."
Before Simon could finish his sentence, Hillary's voice came through on the phone call. He had no choice but to answer it first: "What's up Elisa?"
Simon's tone softened when speaking to her over the phone.
"Simon hurry up and get better soon! I still have some wine left for you!"
Simon was confused as to what wine she was talking about until she sent him a picture of herself holding red wine - which if he remembered correctly - was the same bottle from that night she delivered to his room.
"Simon that night at the hotel when I went there with red wine...you suddenly hugged me and scared me so much that I dropped the bottle. It has been like a nightmare ever since then until meeting you made everything seem less scary because now I know it was just you all along. Thank God we were arranged together in this life so now I can be your guardian angel and you won't abandon me, right?"
Holding his phone, Simon looked up at Elisa standing in front of him and had an answer in his heart. The woman on the phone was the one he was responsible for.
The events that happened earlier were all just a misunderstanding.
"Elisa, I will never abandon you."
As he said this, Simon looked directly at Elisa. She felt her heart skip a beat as if Simon was saying those words to her instead.
"What did you want to ask me?" Elisa asked curiously after Simon hung up the call.
But Simon felt there was no need to continue asking questions; instead, he promised: "I promise to help with your surgery if you fulfill your promise."
After persuading him for so long, she finally agreed. Elisa nodded happily and replied: "No problem."
"But before the surgery, I have one request from you." With a serious expression on his face, Simon raised his head to look at her.
When they left the hospital room later on, Elisa's eyes were swollen with tears. Before leaving them alone together again for surgery tomorrow morning -Simon told her that if anything went wrong during surgery- she must keep quiet about it...
"I promised to be responsible for Hillary but I don't want her to become a disabled wife or receive strange looks from others. By the way here is my bank card inside this bag with its password being her birthday; it should be enough for her life expenses since we can no longer contact each other after my failed operation... Also remember not let Hillary hold onto any feelings towards me anymore."
Thinking back now about how dimly lit his eyes were when he spoke these words made Elisa feel uneasy because Hillary didn't deserve such deep affection from someone like Simon!
Two days later came time for Simon's eight-hour-long operation where he changed into surgical clothes and waited patiently for the medical staff to push him into the operating room.
Elisa couldn't help but call Hillary on her phone. Simon was about to undergo a long surgery, yet Hillary didn't even bother to ask how he was doing!
"Hello? Hillary, where are you?" Elisa heard loud music playing in the background and felt disappointed with her response.
"What do you care where I am? I'm busy, don't bother me!"
"Do you know that Simon is about to have surgery soon? Don't you want to see him one last time?"
Hillary had no idea his leg injury was so severe; her mother told her that he might be amputated. If he became disabled would she still stay by his side?
That's ridiculous! She could find someone else who wasn't disabled as a husband instead of staying with him out of pity just because of his handsome face!
"It has nothing to do with me." After saying this, she decisively ended the call.
"You!" Hearing the busy tone on the other end of the line, Elisa knew that some people never change their ways.
Upon hearing the busy tone on the phone, Elisa knew she couldn't change her nature. When she looked up, she found Simon looking at her. Without hesitation, she went up to him and explained with a smile, "It's my sister calling. She cares about your condition and wants you to get better soon so that you can meet her. Do you understand?" Simon was already lying in bed after being given anesthesia but still managed to bend his mouth slightly upon hearing her words and said,
"Tell her not to worry too much." Elisa nodded in agreement but felt uneasy for him because Hillary didn't care about his surgery at all.
"It's time for the operation now. Please make way for family members," medical staff came over and pushed the bed away. Elisa leaned down to give him some last-minute encouragement before he went into surgery: "Simon, I know you'll come out of this healthy!" Then there was that familiar scent again - almost identical to the woman from that night! Under the influence of anesthesia, Simon struggled to open his eyes wide enough just so he could see clearly who it was.
He would never forget what happened that night; there was a tiny mole on the woman's chin under the hazy moonlight which made it clear who she really was...
