Chapter 40 Mrs. Iverson
Robert was stunned as if struck by lightning. What did he just hear? Simon called Elisa "Mrs. Iverson"? When did she get married? Why didn't he know anything about it? For a moment, he found it hard to accept.
Elisa was even more embarrassed and felt ashamed. Simon must have done this on purpose!
Robert looked at Elisa incredulously, seemingly asking her what was going on. But Simon had already forcibly pulled Elisa to sit next to him, asserting his dominance.
"I heard that Mr. Brown and my wife are alumni; what a coincidence," said Simon with a smile.
To avoid any misunderstandings, Elisa quickly broke free from Simon's grasp and anxiously turned to Robert: "Robert, I'll explain everything later."
During the negotiation process that followed, however, Simon held onto Elisa's hand tightly throughout the entire time.
Seeing how anxious she looked, he feared that if he let go of her hand for even a second she would jump into the arms of the man across from them! How could she be so brazen in front of him like this?
As soon as negotiations ended, Elisa immediately stood up and said: "Robert, I'll walk you out."
"The servant will do it; there's no need for you," replied Simon who saw through her intentions and pushed her back down onto the seat.
During their standoff Robert picked up his briefcase calmly while looking straight into Simon's eyes: "Mr. Iverson - surely you wouldn't begrudge me an old school friend seeing me off?"
Simon gritted his teeth in anger but couldn't say anything else when confronted with such calmness: "Mr.Brown - I can never be generous enough when it comes to someone dear to me."
Meanwhile, poor Elisa was almost at breaking point listening to all this nonsense coming out of Simon's mouth. If he kept going, she wouldn't be able to explain anything.
"Robert, I'll walk you out," Elisa said firmly and quickly pulled Robert away.
Left alone with his anger, Simon watched helplessly as Elisa dragged the man away from him!
"Elisa, I need to know - did you really marry him?" asked Robert outside the door.
If it had been anyone else but Simon, Robert would not have been so shocked. But this was a famous heir of a wealthy family; it was too shocking for words.
Elisa shook her head vigorously: "No..."
"If that's not true then why are you living together?"
This time Elisa was stumped. How could she prove that there was nothing between her and Simon?
Seeing her silence only made things worse for Robert who felt even more upset now: "If you're really with him then it's none of my business; I'll still wish you all the best. But I just want to hear the truth."
"It's not like that, Robert...I came here as a substitute bride for my sister."
"What?"
Before she could explain further Emma Brooks' hospital called:
"Are you a relative of Emma Brooks? The patient is critically ill and undergoing rescue efforts. Please come to the hospital as soon as possible!"
