Distraction

Ashtons POV

I take extra precautions to make sure that the camp is safe. Ava having magic does mean she will be able to protect herself better, even if its not exactly combat magic, it seems to work as a self defence for her. I have so many questions for her, but I don’t think she knows the answers. I should be locking her up, I should be disgusted by her difference, I should hate her, but I’m just intrigued. I have never cared for the rules and there is something about her that I can’t possibly hate.
Out of the corner of my eye, I see Ava pacing and frowning. I feel sorry for her, it must be hard to be so confused about yourself. I want to help, but I don’t know how.
After I am satisfied that the camp is secure, I have an idea. I make a bowl shape in the ground and then draw as much water from the sky as I can to fill it.
“Em Ava, I have made you a bath if you would like to relax a little and clean yourself after a long trek” I say gently, I’m kind of embarrassed, I’m not used to doing nice things for other people.
“Oh thank you” She says. “Em would you mind giving me some privacy?” She blushes.
I would very much like to stay and watch or join her, but I don’t want to force her. “I will go and rest.” I turn and make the bedding area more comfortable. I close my eyes and imagine her bathing when I hear a scream and rush outside.

I cobble together a roast beef and potatoes dish that Johns mum taught us to make, which is a lot harder to make than I remember. I leave the food to cook on the small fire and go to change my clothes. I was injured in the fight, that bitch vampire cut my lower back with her claws and my shirt is bloodied. It will heal, but the shirt is ruined. As I take off my shirt and rummage in my bag for another, I feel her eyes on me.
