Rescue

Ashton's pov 

I am glad that Jasmine likes me. She seems like a nice woman. She deemed my intentions pure although I'm not convinced some of the things I want to do to her daughter would be classed as pure. She explained their plan to me and briefed me on the role and duties of a guard to help me keep my cover. It turns out I am very lucky not to have been discovered, because there are a lot of rules I was breaking that would have given me away.
I escorted her to the hall and was relieved to see Ava. Just being near her and seeing her unharmed made me happy, but it was difficult not to go to her. 
She looked like an angel in her white dress and everyone was staring at her. I couldn’t blame them, but I didn't like how they stared. Something about her made me so possessive and protective. I watched her intently, not noticing anything else about the ball. A smiled to myself when she obviously rejected a man's advances. Unsurprisingly another man has approached her, but this one was different, I swear I could feel the fear coming off her when she saw him. He pulled her out of her seat and I started to walk towards them, jealousy and anger fuelling me. I felt the fire building around my fingers, itching to put him in his place. He slid his arm around her waist pulling her flush against him. I saw her squirm, trying to get out of his grasp. I would end him for touching her like that. 
Before I could get to her, I heard the sound of glass breaking as a fight broke out amongst the women. Jasmine had thrown wine over another woman and slapped her. The woman was trying to fight back and being blocked by several men. I understood the distraction and nodded in thanks at Jasmine.
Using the distraction I tried to move closer to Ava without drawing attention, but the man also used the distraction to his advantage and pulled her out of the hall. I followed at a safe distance as they went upstairs and he went into a room. 
I checked that no one had followed me, but the corridors were empty, everyone busy at the ball still. I doubt anyone had even noticed us leaving, except maybe Jasmine who had given me a quick wink as I left. 
I pushed against the door, but it was locked. I stepped back and used air to burst into the room, desperate to get to her, before he violated her. I was shocked to see the man tangled up in vines. One vine wrapped tightly around his neck, choking him. 
I smile, impressed by her power. I’m glad she can take care of herself and seeing her so in control is sexy as hell. She turns to me surprised at the intrusion and I see the vines extending out towards me. I quickly throw my hands up in surrender and remove my helmet. When recognition crosses her face, she relaxes. She runs into my arms and kisses me deeply. I sigh with relief at having her safe in my arms again.
"Fucking bitch, I will teach you some respect" the man snarls. He is struggling against the vines and his binds are coming loose. With Ava's distraction he was able to completely break free. 
"No, I think I will teach you some respect" I say, rage blinding me as I unleash all my anger upon him. How dare he speak to her like that, he was the monster here. I throw everything at him, fire, water, air and earth working together with the sole purpose of ending his life. 
He is strong and he shoots several fire bolts back at me, half shifting into something that I didn't think existed and using his claws to lash out at me. If I had not been in a fight, I might have admired such a rare creature and marvelled at his power, but I was very focused on how to beat him instead.
Realising what he is, I change tactics and use my water in full force to extinguish his fire, I force water down his throat and drown him. He clasps at his throat realising I have put out his flame source just before he passes out. 
I see Ava slump in relief, but I can’t relax yet.
”Dragons can't be killed without a special metal, I need to take him somewhere to keep him away from you." I explain. 
"I don't want you to leave, it's not safe, what if someone sees you?" She says concern clear in her voice. 
"Can you tie him for me?" I ask, ignoring her objections. 
She nods and focuses on the unconscious man. Vines appear around his hands and legs. 
"You are getting good at this" I say gesturing to her vines. 
"Thank you. I hope it is enough to keep my mother and I safe. You should not have come back, you will be in danger here." She says looking guilty. 
"You are in danger here, I had to come for you. Would you rather I left you with the likes of him?" I gesture towards him in disgust. 
"If I could I would never leave your side. I’d never touch another man, certainly not someone like him. I only want you, but I need you to be safe. I need you to convince your father to protect my mother and I. I need to get her out safely too" 
I think I stopped listening after she said that she wants me. I push her into the wall and lift her so that her legs are wrapped around my waist. Hopefully that will keep him secure while I can find a way to kill him. 
As I return to the castle, there are too many witnesses for me to return to Ava, so I play the role of guard and patrol the ball again. I’m not built for these undercover missions, patience is not something I am known for. I have to make it work though, for her and her mother. I tried to convince Jasmine to let me fight them all, but she explained that with Kato’s power that would be impossible. I don’t like it, but I have to bow to her expertise and inside knowledge. I hope my father comes with the army though, we have a score to settle here that goes beyond Ava.
