The Elementals: Chapter 11 Assessment
Lily’s POV
I woke up in a small dark room, lit only by a small candle. I tried to feel for any earth or plants that I might be able to use to escape, but I couldn’t feel anything, the walls must be too thick. I focus on the ropes that are binding my hands and feet. My hands are behind my back, there is a little wiggle room in the rope, but not enough to break free. My legs are tied to the chair legs, I struggle and try to pull them free with no luck.
The door opens, but no light comes through. A man walks in and lights more candles. In the dim light I can tell he is older, his beard peppered with grey hairs.
“Oh poor little princess, playing at being the hero when really you are the monster.” He sneers
“What do you mean, what do you want from me?” I demand.
“You will see. You are here for assessment. The results of which will determine whether you live a life of servitude to our cause or you die.” He threatens.
“While that is a tempting offer, you can shove it up your ass. I’m not doing your assessment and I’m not doing to serve you.” I spit back.
“We will see, in the meantime I wouldn’t bother trying to escape. You are contained inside 2 large metal shipping containers in the middle of nowhere” He says and gets up to leave.
2 larger men come in in his place and put a bag over my head. When it is removed i’m in a white room with cameras pointed at me in all directions. The men prick my finger and hook me up to various machines then leave. A woman voice projects through the room. “I’m going to ask you a series of questions, you may as well answer honestly because between the DNA we took from you and the machines you are hooked up to, we will know if you lie anyway.” The woman sounds bored and impatient, like i’m keeping her from finishing work early.
“Who the hell are you? Why are you hiding?” I shout.
“I’m your assessor. My physical presence would only distract you and hinder our observations. Now what is your name?” she asks.
I remain silent and a shock goes through my body, making me cry out in pain.
“Each time you lie or refuse to answer, you will be shocked, the voltage will increase each time. Now let's try again, what is your name?”
“Lily” I say reluctantly. I will need my strength to get out of here so I decide to play along.
“Good. Now what are you?”
“What do you mean? I’m a lot of things, capricorn, black belt, student.” I say
“What species do you identify as?” The voice clarifies.
“Well human obviously, somethings I wait a bit too long to shave my legs, but i’m not exactly a monkey.” I say.
“What powers do you have?”
“I can make mud into balls and launch if at dickheads in self defence”
“Is that all?”
“Yes” I reply and I feel another shock pulse through me. “Ok, Ok, I can manipulate earth, but I don’t know to what extent” I add
“When did you discover these abilities?” The voice asks
“Only recently, a few weeks ago” I reply
“Are there others like you?”
“Not that I know of, maybe my friend because you took her but I don’t know what she can do.” I silently pray that that is enough and I can keep sky out of this.
“What about your parents?” The voice asks
“My father is dead and my mother abandoned me when I was very young. I have few memories of them, but I didn’t even know this was possible until I did it” I answer
“Whose side are you on?”
“What do you mean? What sides?” I ask getting annoyed by the questions.
“Humans or dragons?”
I laugh “dragons aren’t real”
“Which side?” The woman insists.
“Well humans I guess since I am one” I answer
“Would you die to protect them?”
“For my friends without question” I answer
“What are your objectives?”
“What kind of question is that, I don’t know, graduate, travel, maybe have a relationship with someone not named ben or jerry.” I say exasperated
“What was your purpose in attacking our facility?”
“I only wanted my friend back. I tracked her there and was hoping to sneak her out and forget this ever happened, but then your goons attacked me. I would never hurt anyone unless it was in self-defence… or they really deserved it”
“What would you do if you were released?” the voice asks
“Hmm go home, have a very long bath, kiss a boy I should have kissed years ago, drink a lot and try to convince myself that this was all a bad dream or a hallucination” I reply honestly.
“The verbal assessment is now complete. You will be put through a physical examination and trails tomorrow.” The woman voice explains and the men re-enter the room and cover my head with a bag again before carrying me back to my prison chamber.
