Worlds Collide: Chapter 35 Reunion
“Oh that’s right, focaccia my ass” Lily moans as I walk in to the room to see her lying awkwardly on the bed with her now very prominent baby bump and Sky rubbing her with some oils.
“Focaccia my ass?” I ask, questioning what the hell I have walked in on.
“My massage technique is the same as the way I knead the foccacia bread dough” Sky answers automatically, as though it should be obvious, without stopping his massage.
Then as the realisation sets in, they both snap their heads up and look at me.
“Where the bloody hell have you been?!” Lily says, jumping up quicker than a woman at her stage of pregnancy should be able to and walking towards me with the air of someone about to inflict their wrath.
Sky hands her her robe to cover her, but knows better than to interfere.
I say the one thing that I know will distract her enough to let me explain properly:
“I fell in love” I say, raising my hands up in surrender.
Lily freezes, then stumbles back to sit on the bed, clearly shocked.
“Sky go make some pizza” Lily orders, without looking away from me.
“What? That’s it? She abandons her responsibilities and stresses you out for weeks and we are already back to just eating pizza” Sky asks incredulously.
Lily and I both send him a death glare and he retreats out of the room grumbling about how he is never forgiven so easily.
“Tell me everything” Lily instructs, setting herself up to sit comfortably in one of those body length pillows that all pregnant women seem to have and pulling out a bag of popcorn from her side drawer, which I would love to think was due to the cravings, but I know full well this girl loved her food long before she was eating for two.
I take advantage of Sky being away to make her swear the blood oath about most of my story, which she does without question, clearly dying with curiosity to get to juicier details. Thankfully, I have managed to fill her in on most of the story before Sky returns with pizza. We have even agreed a cover story to tell Sky.
“So where were you all this time Rain? I looked everywhere, we had patrols searching night and day.” Sky asks, clearly concerned for me now that his anger has subsided. Cooking always calms him down.
“Well I met this guy and things got a little out of hand. I was drugged and locked in his sex dungeon for so long I lost count of the days. Not that I complained, the things Juan can do with a girl were enough to make me forget my own name never mind anything else. I got to know him pretty well while I was there and, when he did let me out, I didn’t want to leave. I know our relationship didn’t start off on the right foot, but I really grew to care for him. By then I knew you would have been back and running everything, so I figured I’d take a little time to do what you have both been telling me to do and try the whole love thing.” I explain.
He rolls his eyes “Of course, captive in a sex dungeon, why didn’t I think of that. Damn, I think I lost my bet with Hades. Only you Rain could manage to have that experience and make it into a happily ever after story. Seriously though, this guy must be pretty strong to have held you captive and pretty damn enticing to captivate your heart. I think we will be the judges of whether he is worthy of you though, just in case this is some stockholm syndrome bullshit messing with you, right Lily?” Sky says.
“Actually we wont, Rain doesn’t want us to interfere until she is sure and I think we need to respect that, it is her choice after all. She has promised to send photos though and not to disappear for too long again.” Lily says, saving me from Sky’s protective big brother attitude.
Sky looks at her in shock “You are really ok with that? You don’t want to plan out their whole future or interrogate the guy?”
“Oh I want to, and I will definitely start planning, but I trust Rain and I know she will make the right choices for her.” Lily says smiling.
“Thank you” I say engulfing her is a hug, but being careful of her bump.
Sky goes to clean up, still shaking his he’d in disbelief, but not questioning his wife further.
“As soon as you get wifi up and running there, we are video calling and I’m interrogating Juan so hard that he will be sweating for days worrying he has said the right thing.” Lily whispers seriously to me.
“Of course! I’m also going to keep researching to see whether I can find a way to bring him here, at least for the wedding.” I say.
“Wedding?!” Lilly squeals excitedly.
“Well I might be getting a little ahead of myself there, he hasn’t actually proposed or anything yet” I say a bit embarrassed.
“Oh my god, I love him already, if he has managed to get you thinking about that level of commitment, he must really be special.” She says clapping her hands in excitement.
We talk for hours about Juan until Sky gets fed up of the graphic details and goes to bed and then I tell Lily more about my new family and the world I discovered. Lily manages to give me a few updates from home and tells me her due date, but she is too interested in my story to discuss herself for long. By morning Lily eyes are drooping shut and she is struggling to stay awake any longer. I take my chance to say my goodbyes and tuck her into bed before leaving.
I make a few stops on the way to let Ember and Hades know I’m alive and apologies to the water council members for disappearing, giving them all the fake story we made up and laughing to myself at the idea of being Juan’s sex slave. I make sure to be back at the cave well before noon.
When I travel back through, arriving early, I am surprised to see my grandmother waiting for me already. I smile at her realising that she was worried for me which shows she really does care about me.
“Oh good, you survived and I assume your trip was successful” She says, in her fake cold tone that I’m learning to see through.
“It was indeed. I was hoping to stop in to see grandad, I brought this for him.” I say holding up the tim tam biscuit.
“And what did you bring for me?” She asks, but starts to walk towards the cottage.
I hand her 3 large textbooks on physics and computing that I stole from Sky’s bookshelf (I’m pretty sure he has never read them so I doubt he even notice they are missing).
“Very well, at least I will have something interesting to do while Lawrence prattles on.” She agrees. How she intends to understand the books I have no idea, they all seem like gobbledygook to me, I maybe should have brought the big yellow dumbed down versions instead.
