The Elementals: Chapter 27 Flirting

We keep training right up to the ball since I’m already dressed and ready.
I have never been more grateful for Rains make over skills. Despite the long day, I'm still looking elegant and composed even if I don't feel it.
There are more people here than I expected and everyone is dressed up in black tie. I have shaken more hands than I have in my whole life and I have absolutely no hope of remembering any names anymore.
"Ok, this is an important family." My mother says as a group approach us. "The mother is called Pyra, she holds a seat on the council. The son is Hades, he is your suitor. Play along for now please, we can work out how to terminate the arrangement diplomatically later."
I groan "fine" I say as I take in the woman walking towards me. She looks intimidating, standing tall and radiating power. Her son steps out from behind her and smiles. In his full tuxedo with mischievous eyes he looks like a more dangerous version of James bond. I have to force my eyes to look away and stop checking him out.
My mother saves me by making the formal introductions. I offer my hand to be shaken and he takes it and lifts it to his lips placing a gentle kiss on my hand.
"May I have this dance?" He asks in a heavy accent that I can't place, Spanish or Italian maybe.
"Oh I actually don't know any dances except ceilidh dances." I say trying to get out of it.
"I can teach you, I'm surprised a woman like you has not been taught to dance" he flirts and pulls me to the dance floor.
"Most of my teaching focused on fighting. I'd be much happier practicing that than dancing." I say.
"Hmm feisty, I like a strong woman" he says undeterred.
He moves me in time with the music, placing his hands on my hips to sway them in sync with his body. His touch is dangerously sensual and I relax into the dance, enjoying it more than I care to admit.
"I knew you would know how to use your body for pleasure as well as protection" he whispers in my ear.
"I never said I didn't know how to use if for pleasure, only that I didn't know this dance" I whisper back and he pulls me in flush against his body.
"I'd very much like you to elaborate further, walk with me" he says as the dance ends.
"Sorry, I have to get back to my mother, I have a lot of introductions to make still." I say walking away before he he can argue and putting an extra away in my hips as I do.
If he wants to flirt, two can play at that game. Maybe it's because i’m still mad at Sky, but I don't hate the idea of being with Hades. He is exactly the type of guy I was throwing myself at last year to try to forget Sky; tall, dark and handsome incarnate.
A small part of me wants to see how this plays out just out of spite, but I still love Sky and even mad I'd never do anything to hurt him deliberately. A bit of flirting can't hurt though, and it might make this party more enjoyable.
As the night goes on, the formalities relax and the hall turns to more of a night club than a ball, with alcohol flowing freely. Even my mum has relaxed and started dancing with a group of women her age. It's nice to see her like that, free and happy.
I walk to the bar, but before I can get there, I'm intercepted by Hades holding two glasses.
"Martini?" He offers
"Is it shaken or stirred?" I joke
"Shaken obviously" he replies and I roll my eyes.
"No thank you, I prefer something sweeter." I move past him and order a sex on the beach cocktail.
"Is that how you like your men?" He asks.
"Well I think the sand might be uncomfortable, but I'm not opposed to the idea" I reply.
He smirks "I meant sweet"
"Well that depends, I like a person for who they are rather than one specific trait."
"You said person, does that mean you would like a man or a woman if they were a good person?" He asks curiously
"I don't see why that matters to you." I say feigning formality.
"It will help me have sweeter dreams" he whispers.
"Well a sound night's sleep should be prioritised. So yes I have been with both" I reply innocently.
"I think the underworld will suit you well. Has anyone given you a tour yet?" He asks.
"Not yet, we have been busy." I reply
"Well allow me" he offers his hand.
"I can't tonight, I have had a long day and I need my sleep, though I doubt my dreams will be as good as yours" I say finishing my drink and walking away to my room.
I look over my shoulder to see that Hades is following me, but his mother thankfully pulled him back to the party before he could see where my room was.
In to the unknown
