Worlds Collide: Chapter 15 Goodbyes

Dinner last night was hard. I don’t like goodbyes and these felt more permanent than most. Ezron was the best distraction though, asking me to create different things from the water to entertain him. I will see them all again this morning to keep a promise to him, but I feel like it is just drawing out the inevitable.
I have left most of the outfits for Ava, but I opt to wear my black short dress today again, now washed and free of mud.
I hear an argument outside so once I’m dressed, I open the door to investigate and see Juan blocking John from entering. “Don’t you dare touch her!” Juan threatens.
“John!” I greet him happily, glad that I will see him before I leave. “Please come in” I say, pushing Juan out of the way.
“Thank you Rain, but I eh don’t think I will” He says glancing warily at Juan
“Is everything ok?” I ask.
“Actually everything is more than ok, I met my mate. She is one of the scouts. I wanted to say goodbye, but I didn’t want to lead you on.” He confesses awkwardly.
“Don’t be silly! I’m very happy for you John, I wish you both the best in the future” I say genuinely, pulling him in for a hug.
“Likewise, I heard you are going home so safe travels” He says before making excuses and leaving.
“Well that was not what I expected” Juan says, almost involuntarily
“What did you expect?” I question.
“Well I wouldn’t have been surprised if you two started fucking on the floor in front of me” He says bluntly, with a hint of anger.
“I think that his mate might have had an issue with that” I say laughing
“And you are not jealous of her? Or angry with him?” He asks
“Nope, our spark has gone. I don’t even feel that drawn to him now strangely.” I say shrugging as I start to walk out of the castle.
Ezron jumps up to hug me as soon as he sees me. “Rain make me fly?” he asks excitedly
“Yes, I will take you for a flight, but you have to promise to hold on tightly.” I ask.
“Promise” He says extending his hand for me to shake in an adorable gesture that makes me smile.
I change into my dragon and allow him to climb on my back. When I feel that he is sat safely, I lift off and fly carefully in a small circle around the castle. Ezron giggles long after I land and he returns to Ava’s side.
“Thank you for humouring him Rain, you are welcome here any time, but please keep our existence a secret.” King Ash says.
“Of course, thank you for your hospitality.” I say, before hugging them all.
Turning to Juan I say “I need you to take me to where we fought, I will be able to find my way back from there.”
“I will escort you, do you want to fly?” He asks.
“It will be quicker” I nod and shift back to my dragon. I follow him on the short flight to the spot we first met. Excitement sparks inside of me as we land and I realised that he won’t have any clothes to change into here. I shift back and notice that Juan stays as a dragon.
“What, feeling shy and modest all of a sudden?” I challenge.
Rising to my challenge, he returns to his human self, which in total honesty looks more like a gods body than a humans. “So desperate to see me naked again?” He retorts.
“It will be easier to walk on foot from here.” I lie, but a part of me is not ready to leave.
“Very well, lead the way.” He offers.
We walk in silence for a while, but it is not uncomfortable, I have gotten used to him being in my shadow over the last few days.
“So I bet you will be glad to get your normal life back, no more thin walls keeping you up at night.” I say as we near the waterfall.
“No” He says.
I look at him quizzically
“I don’t sleep well anymore anyway” He elaborates.
“So you will miss me then?” I ask
He doesn’t respond which I take as a no and so end my attempts at conversation.
I walk into the waterfall “This is it, goodbye Lord Juan” I say curtseying sarcastically before turning to dive under.
He catches my hand and pulls me to face him. He slowly brings my hand to his lips, staring deeply into my eyes as he does so “Goodbye Princess.” The sensation catches me off guard. The small kiss was more sensual than any I have had in my life, and I have had a lot. I freeze staring, wanting, no needing more. Then he drops my hand and walks away. The action makes me feel cold and rejected and so I dive quickly under the water to hide my embarrassment.
I search and search for the cave system that I came through, but I find none. Eventually, I have to give up and re-surface. I’m surprised to see Juan is still sitting on the grass. When he sees me there is a glimmer of happiness that crosses his face, quickly replaced with confusion.
“It’s gone. I can’t get back” I explain, hearing the edge of panic in my own voice.
