Worlds Collide: Chapter 19 Trials

Juan pins me underneath him with his weight. “Did you want to kiss me back then or did you just do it to help?” He asks.
I wriggle my legs free and wrap them around him to show him that I could take control back if I wanted to “Why does it matter? I wouldn’t have thought that your ego needed any more inflation” I reply
“It matters because I want your full consent for what I’m about to do” He says leaning in closer to me.
“And what exactly is that?” I whisper fighting my bodies urge to close the gap between us.
Juan freezes staring at my lips, waiting for my permission, but I’m not going to give it to him unless he admits that he wants this too. I feel his hard length pressing into me, but for some reason I want him to admit that he wants me.
“I want-” He starts, but then his attention shifts away from me to his hands.
I try to move to see what could possible have ruined this moment, but I’m fixed in place and not just by his hands.
“We are being dragged into the ground by some kind of tree root. Quick stand up, we need to run to the portal.” Juan says struggling, but freeing himself and jumping up.
“I cant, I’m stuck” I say fighting the pull, but losing.
Juan draws his sword and starts slashing at the area around me. I should feel scared that he might hit me or leave me to be pulled under, but for some reason I don’t, I trust him.
I keep struggling and eventually I free my arms enough to sit up and see the roots tied around my legs which regrow rapidly after every cut that Juan makes. I kick and fight to break free and between us I manage to escape and roll away.
Juan picks me up and throws me over his shoulder effortlessly as he runs to the portal. It is not the most dignified I have ever looked, but I can’t object as I see the roots snapping at his feet.
We rush through the portal and emerge in what looks like a cave from the underworld. The space is dimly lit by a river of lava giving it an eery red glow. Ahead there is another portal, but this one is not glowing like the one we came through which has now disappeared.
“Thank you for saving me” I say
“Not that it did much good since we now appear to be trapped here.” Juan says
“There must be a way to activate that one, maybe we can work it out.” I say walking closer to the portal and surveying the strange objects around it.
“What is all this junk? A bible, some scales, a bath, how are any of these supposed to open a portal?” He says.
“Maybe it’s like a test that only witches can pass.” I say as something clicks in my mind. “They used to have witch trials, lots of stupid ways people would test if someone was a witch. We learnt about it in school, one was being lighter than a bible” I say looking at the bible on the giant scale.
“Its not possible to be lighter than a bible, I just carried you and believe me the bible is lighter.” He says and I scowl at him.
“For a normal human no, but for a shifter it should be easy” I say and indicate that he should try.
Juan walks to the scale as a human and steps on, it tilts with his weight, but then he changes to be a fly and the scales tilt back to the bible. I watch as a section of the portal illuminates.
Juan shifts back “Wow it actually worked! What else do you remember?” He asks.
I look around. “I think the bath is something to do with witches floating maybe” I say and watch as he gets in the bath wincing slightly at its temperature and then changes into an otter and floats happily on the surface. The portal glows more.
Juan changes back. “What else? It’s still not complete.” He says.
“I don’t know, look around for anymore clues.” I say searching the room but not finding anything else.
“What about this?” He says, holding a thin needle up,
“Oh of course, witches don’t bleed or feel pain.” I say, looking expectantly at him.
“Well I definitely bleed in any form I choose, sorry.” He says.
“Give me your arm” I say.
“I told you I can’t do it.” He says holding his arm protectively.
“Trust me” I say and I’m surprised that he surrenders his arm to me.
I squeeze the skin around his elbow and gently poke the needle in. As expected he neither bleeds nor feels the pain and the portal glows fully.
“How did you know that would work?” He asks.
“I know a lot about how a mans body works” I say, winking as I walk through the portal, swaying my hips sedictuvely.
