The Elementals: Chapter 25 Politics

Three days of mind numbing history and politics lessons and I can't take it anymore. "This is all such bullshit!" I snap. "So many stupid pointless rules and traditions."
"I'm glad I'm not doing your lessons" Rain says.
"We used to be worshiped as gods and now we are living in hiding! It doesn't make sense! My great great great grandfather was the inspiration for Hades and you are descended from Poseidon. We ruled over humans and now we fear them. I mean I get that the hunters committed serious infanticide, but not all humans are hunters. Surely there is a middle ground that the council is missing. They seriously need a reform. Like some of their laws are so outdated like arranged marriage and their new laws are just plain cruel like sending children away from their family to be raised as humans." I rant.
"You are just pissy cause you found out that your mum arranged a marriage for you. Besides isn't the point of this that you will take your seat and have the power to make changes?" Rain says.
"Well it's just rude to do it behind my back, especially when she knew about Sky." I say.
"I'm assuming she had her reasons?” Rain asks.
"Apparently it will allow her to leave her banishment temporarily to travel to the underworld to make arrangements. She said that I don't have to go through with it, but you should have seen the look on Sky's face. He looked like a puppy who just lost his ball."
"He will get over it. He is probably just mad that he can't go with you. I know I'm pissed that we have to stay here." Rain says.
"I don't like it either. At least it's only for a few days. Plus you have plenty to keep you busy here" I say nodding to the blonde guy staring at her.
"Well I have to get over the heart break of Grey somehow and you know, hair of the dog and all that"
"That phrase is for alcohol, you drink more alcohol to avoid a hangover, you don't sleep with more men to get over heart break." I say.
"I don't see why not. There is no point eating ice cream in this temperature and there is not a drop of wine in this place so this is the only self care I have." She huffs.
I was worried about her briefly when Grey broke up with her before summer, but nothing ever phases this girl, she takes all of life's twists and turns in her stride. So after realising that they were not meant to be, she just picked herself up and got on with things.
"I will see what I can salvage from the underworld, maybe they have better comfort food. I should probably get ready. If I must be paraded in front of my kingdom, at least I can do it in style. Will you help?" I ask.
"Of course!" Rain says excited
I only packed one formal, fairly modest black dress which Rain immediately disregarded. Rain somehow managed to pack half her wardrobe and after insisting I try on at least 5 different dresses, we have settled on a long black dress with a plunging neckline and a thigh high slit. When Rain finished straightening my hair and applying make up I definitely don’t look like a princess, but I do look like a leader. I feel much more confident about this journey now, at least I look the part, even if I still don’t feel like I know enough to lead anyone.
I go to Sky’s room to say goodbye while my mum packs the helicopter.
“Hey, we have to leave soon” I say opening the door.
“I’m sorry I..” Sky starts and the stops when he looks at me.
“Oh hell no! I was just coming to terms with you going through with this charade, but then you wore that. No other man should get to see you looking so beautiful, yet alone someone that wants to marry you!” Sky says possessively, but I can tell he is more worried than angry.
“Relax! I don’t want any other man, only you, it’s only ever been you.” I say rubbing his arm.
“Its not though has it, you have had a fair few other men” He says and I recoil at his words.
“Whats that supposed to mean?” I ask annoyed.
“Well you acted like a slut all last year, what’s to stop you now. How am I supposed to trust you?” Sky says.
All I see is red. I can not believe he would talk to me like that, hurt or not, there is no excuse. I feel the flames itching at my fingertips and I storm out of the room before this situation gets any worse. Once outside I burry my hands into the snow to cool off and after a few deep breaths, I make my way to the helicopter. As we take off, I see Sky has followed me out and is staring up at us leaving, but I can’t even look at him.
