Chapter 48: Bryn
The wedding is beautiful. More than I could have ever hoped for, which is saying something since I never planned on getting married for a long time, if at all. I never let myself think about it, but seeing the ring on my finger now, I feel this bubbling happiness inside that makes it hard for me not to smile.
Unfortunately, Sawyer and I didn’t get to stay to celebrate with everyone because we had to fly back to school. We can’t afford to miss too much time, and both of our futures depends on us being good students. The town will party enough for the two of us, and Sawyer didn’t seem eager to spend any more time with them than needed. Mom and dad understood, but Poppy was sad for us to go so soon. We promised to visit again as soon as possible, but it will be nice to be back in our apartment.
Sawyer slides his hand in my left hand and turns it over to admire the thin wedding band on my finger.
“Sorry I couldn’t get you something better, B.” He says.
I look at him like he’s lost his mind. “Sawyer, I don’t care about that. You know I don’t.”
He nods, but rubs a finger over my ring. “I know, but you deserve to have a nice ring. I promise to get you a proper ring when I can.”
I pull my hand out of his and cup his face so he’s looking at me, which is a little awkward in these airplane seats.
“Everything about today was perfect, including our rings. Besides, it’s not like we had a lot of time to pick something special, but we don’t need it. The marriage is what’s important, not the rings.” I press a kiss to his lips to ensure he understands me and he smiles against my lips.
“You’re right.”
“I know I am,” I say proudly.
He laughs as I take out the book I packed for the flight and get comfortable. I get through the first page when Sawyer leans in.
“What are you reading?” He asks.
“A romance book.” I answer simply as I continue to read.
“Is it a sexy romance book?” He whispers.
I roll my eyes. “There is some sex, yes.”
“Really? Does it get you wet when you read those things, Little Bee?” He asks.
His lips brush against my ear, making me shiver.
“Maybe.” I whisper back, because I’m feeling courageous.
He hums. “When we get home, maybe you can read me some of it and we can see how well we can make it a reality.”
Wow. Yes please!
“I’m already pregnant Sawyer. You don’t have to try so hard.” I tease him.
He kisses the side of my neck and I squeeze my eyes shut to try and stop myself from reacting.
“My new mission is to knock you up as many times as possible once this baby is born, but until then, I’m going to enjoy the practice.”
Okay, now he’s talking crazy.
“Exactly how many kids are we talking about here?” I ask.
“A starting team seems like enough.” He says with a shrug, like he didn’t just tell me he wants six kids.
“Are you crazy? There is no way I could carry and give birth to six kids, Sawyer. Have you seen me? Have you seen you? Our kids are going to be huge!” I sound a little hysterical and people are starting to stare.
He chuckles. “Calm down, B. You’re the strongest woman I know. I have no doubt you could give me a dozen kids.”
Now I laugh. “I’m not having six kids, Sawyer.”
Again he shrugs. “We’ll see.”
“I’m not.” I insist, but he ignores me. “Sawyer, I will cut your thing off before I have six kids.”
He tilts his head to smirk at me. “No, you wouldn’t baby, you like it too much.” He winks and grabs the book from my lap.
He can have it because I’m too much in shock over this conversation to concentrate. We will be revisiting it soon, and my stance will not change. Six kids is an army, and I’m a security guard at best. How am I going to keep them all in order?
Eventually, I get tired and rest my head on Sawyer’s shoulder so that I can sleep for the rest of the flight. It only feels like a few minutes pass when I feel Sawyer squeezing my leg and shaking it a little.
“We’ve landed. Gotta wake up B.” He says softly.
I slowly open my eyes, sit up, and stretch my arms up over my head. Sawyer laughs when I make a little happy sound.
“Come on, cutie. You can sleep some more when we get home.” He stands and pulls me to my feet.
“I can’t. I have work to do for classes tomorrow.” I can feel the stress already building.
“You will rest if you need to. I’m not letting you hurt yourself and our baby by cramming like crazy.” He says with a no-nonsense look on his face.
As much as I want to argue that I can’t slack off, he’s right. I don’t want to hurt our baby by not taking care of myself.
“Fine, but I have to do school work at some point or I won’t graduate anytime soon.” I tell him as I step into the aisle to let him pass.
He opens the storage area above the seats and grabs our bags. When I try to take mine, he holds it out of reach and leans in to place a quick kiss on my lips instead.
“Don’t even think about it.” He says and title his head toward the exit in silent command.
I scowl at him, but do as he says.
“I’m not a cripple, you know. I can still do things.” I remind him. “Also, the baby is tiny still. I don’t think carrying a bag will hurt it.”
“Doesn’t matter. I’m carrying you bag, so stop making a big deal out of it.”
I want to continue this conversation and stand up as a strong independent woman, but it feels like a war I won’t be able to win. Sawyer is stubborn and I’m still too tired to go up against him right now. So I let it go for now. Well, have to talk about this later because he can’t follow me everywhere carrying my stuff, so he’ll have to lay off a little bit.
On the way back to our apartment, I steal a bit more sleep so that I will have some energy to finish at the least the required work for tomorrow. When we get home, Sawyer doesn’t bother waking me and I end up waking up when he lays me down on my bed. Or our bed…How is that going to work? Will we both move into my room or his room? Also, what about finances? I never asked how he paid for this place or his schooling or anything. He knows I have a sponsor so that I can pay for my schooling, but he never told me how he’s paying to go here.
I guess we still have things we need to learn about each other.
My body feels so relaxed that I’m tempted to curl up in my blankets and go back to sleep. Instead, I push myself to sit against the wall and watch Sawyer walk out. He’s probably grabbing our bags since he had to carry me in here. I look around the room and somehow it feels different. It isn’t where Sawyer crashes with me after we hook-up.
He comes back in with both of our bags and opens the closet. “Why do have barely any clothes?”
I shrug. “I don’t need a lot.”
He lets out a huff, but starts to unpack his stuff and put them next to mine. I guess he’s moving in.
“So, are we sharing this room now?” I ask teasingly.
He turns and gives me an unimpressed look. “Yes, we are. We’re married now.”
That’s all the answer he gives me before he turns back around and continues unpacking his stuff. I watch him amused and fondly. He’s my husband now and we’re having a baby in about seven or eight months!
“Okay. Now, I’ll make us some food and you can do whatever homework you need to do. We’ll eat dinner in bed and then watch a movie.” It isn’t a question, and he leaves before I can object or add any in put.
“You sure are bossy!” I yell.
“Only because you’re so damn stubborn. Now move your cute ass and get studying.”
“Yes, sir.” I say with a fake deep voice and an awkward solute.
“Save that for later, baby.”
Oh, my god! “I am not calling you sir while we have sex Sawyer! That’s what you say when you sleep with your dad’s best friend or something.”
No way am I doing that.
