CHAPTER 39

KEVIN
"Why do you ask such a question Alpha Kevin?" He replied with a question.
This man really thinks I'm stupid. I know him to be a big womanizer, he was staring lustfully at Sia, the other day at the office. She was also very uncomfortable seeing him. I sensed something must be wrong. other than the fact that her father's house was burned.
"I've seen you look at her lustfully. You should take whatever thoughts you have in your mind away. She is mine." I growled.
He poured himself another drink patiently. His silence was driving me to the edge, he's not even saying anything.
"She has been gifted to me by her father. She is a natural beauty, anyone will fall for her." He said calmly.
I growled, "She is an outcast. Someone rejected by your entire pack including her own family. Did you do anything about that?"
"There are some things beyond my control Alpha Kevin."
"But it is not beyond your control to lust after a girl old enough to be your daughter? The last I know, she's not in your status."
"You may be right. Yet, her father gave her to me as a slave. He requested a favor from me and promised to give her to me when I grant it. How can I refuse such generous offer." He shrugged.
The more he said it, the more my blood boiled hotter. How can a father hate his own daughter to the point of giving her away to slavery. The thought of what they are doing to my mate makes me so angry. His hatred for his own daughter is unexplainable. What sort of person is he?
He is definitely a heartless man. Even I am not this cold towards her. Despite knowing she is not of my status, I accepted her.
"You can't have her. You know that too well. I hope you're not willing to stop this collaboration because of that? If you are, I wouldn't mind at all." I got up.
"Our collaboration will not be stopped because of this. This issue will be resolved after our common enemy is out of the way. For now, we go according to the plan. If there is anymore information, I will contact you." He assured.
I nodded, "That's good to hear." With a hint of sarcasm, "I am leaving now. We will talk later. I still have some matters to resolve at home."
I turned to leave but what he said next made me stop.
"Matters involved with the return of your dead lover?" He asked, I turned with a frown. How did he know something that has just happened in a few hours.
A man from another town, knowing what is going on in my family suddenly makes me think that my family is our in the open. There is no secrets at all.
"News travel fast. I mean, it's hard to see the dead resurrected these days. Something like that is not what you can hide from the public. Even the reporters already know, you should check tomorrow's headlines."
I turned without a word and left the hotel. If this is true, my private life is our in the open. I have always kept my life private even though I am a public figure. That's why I hardly stay at the pack to show I am the leader. I wanted everything about me to be private.
I gnashed my teeth as my claws grew longer. Who the fuck is leaking my family secrets to the public? I will not spare that person the moment I find out who it is. No matter who it is.
I drove back home still thinking about what Logan said. Ralf Cobben is nothing but a devilish man. The fact that Sia must have gone through a lot broke my heart completely. Whatever she is, she did not make herself this way. Why make life unbreakable for her instead of supporting her?
Or is there something else I am supposed to know? Could there be more to this hatred than the fact that she is an Omega? Is he not his biological daughter?
All these questions rang in my head making me feel dizzy. Today has been a whole lot of tiring for me.
I stepped into the huge mansion, only the workers are walking around and paying their respect. I didn't see the members of my family much. I decided to go to my study for a while before going to my chambers.
The annoying truth I learnt about Sia today has made me unable to face her for now. I would rather stay here and look into some things before going.
I was going through all the files of the last few months in the pack. A knock came to the study door.
"Come in." I said coldly.
I know it can't be Sia. Other than everyone else, she doesn't know this study yet. Besides, I don't think she is aware I am around. I felt the familiar scent when she walked in. How did she know I was here?
I suddenly remembered, she has always been with me for over four years.
"You're back." She asked.
"Obviously." I sneered.
She came towards me, found a seat in front of me with a long face. She looks pale and tired. At this moment, I don't know what to think. My heart raced faster, I realized that I still had some affection for her even if I don't love her anymore. It is somehow confusing.
I never expected to see her at all.
"Why are you avoiding me Kevin? Do you really not care about me anymore?" Her voice was breaking again.
I felt a sting in my heart. She's making this more difficult than it already is.
"Don't say that Nina. You know how I feel about you has not changed."
"But you're with her! You refused to look at me twice since I came back! I loved you so much and came all the way here because I remembered you finally! I don't deserve the treatment I am getting from you." She cried.
"She's my mate. She actually comforted me when I needed her. She was the only one who could stop my beast from hurting people. My wolf only listens to her..."
"If that is the case, what you feel for her isn't love. It's gratitude. Kevin look at me, it's still me. Your Nina! I haven't changed. My love for you hasn't changed, even till death. I will continue to love you, why can't you see that?!" She sprang up and walked to my front.
"Nina I..."
She already got on my legs. She sat down and wrapped her hands on my neck, looking at me passionately.
Thump! That was the sound of my heart.
"Look into my eyes and tell me you don't want me. Tell me you feel nothing for me and I will get out of your life forever."
She put me in a tight corner. I can't speak or do anything. This was all too confusing to me, I looked into her eyes and no word came out of my mouth. Maybe because I can't bear to lose her again.
She slowly brought her lips close to me and kissed me. I was in a daze for a while before coming back to reality. I pulled my hands from my pocket and placed them on her waist. It turns out, she still has an effect on me.
It is not until I perceived a scent with retreating footsteps did I come back to my senses. I pushed Nina away from me. She fell down in shock, the door already closed. If the familiar scent is right, then I am in for it.
"Kevin!!!" She yelled loudly, her eyes almost popping out of her sockets.
"Leave Nina. I would like to be alone now." My voice as cold as ever.
"Kevin..."
"You know me so well Nina. I do not like to be questioned." I growled.
She got up and stomped away, in tears. I shook my head, mentally slapping myself for being an idiot. I let her carry me away with a moment of pleasure. I completely forgot why I am here.
I waited for a while before going into my chambers. I met her standing by the window. A feeling of guilt hit me, she must be feeling very bad.
She did not move even after knowing that I arrived. I hugged her from behind, yet she remained unmoved. I felt very uncomfortable, I eventually turned her to face me.
My heart broke at what I saw. I didn't know I cared about her this much. She had bitter tears in her eyes.
"I can explain. It is not what you think." I told her.
She gently moved my hands from her body.
"You don't have to explain. I understand, I am just a third wheel. I am an unwanted guest who you would toss away the moment you found your first love."
That hurt deeply. I can't believe she is saying this to me. Her words are surprising and totally heartbreaking.
"Don't do this Sia."
