CHAPTER 53

Carter left the forest a few days later. He set out to visit the WhiteMoon pack in order to see Kevin like Sia instructed. He planned to use a few days there just to warn Kevin and leave. He was able to get there fast using his vampire abilities to run very fast. He wore a hoodie to prevent people from seeing his face as he walked through the town. Some people found him quite weird.
He stopped at a local shop to eat something. He had some money he found a few months ago with him. Three women sat opposite him, they seem to be gossiping about the royal family.
"Can you believe what Alpha Kevin did? He covered up for a criminal till she escaped." One of the women said.
"I heard the new Luna poisoned the old queen. She got arrested and ran away." Another of the women said.
"He should have executed her after they found out. Why did he keep her for that long, he even ordered to take her to the hospital and made way for her to escape. Totally unfair." The last woman said.
"I think they had this all planned. The old Luna doesn't like the new one, so they planned to kill her and live happily." The second woman said again.
"I don't think Alpha Kevin has anything to do with this. The real devil is that woman. She's an Omega who claims to be the Alpha's mate."
"She a witch. She deserves to die. I hope she's dead wherever she is."
Carter listened carefully and decide to punish the women for being unable to keep their mouths shut. He made their food and seats very hot. They screamed in pain and jerked off the chairs, he continued to eat like he has nothing to do with it. The women ran away leaving their foods. Carter was done eating, he paid and continued his journey.
He stopped at the gate of the huge mansion where Kevin and his family lives. The guards stop him at the gate because he looks strange. He asked to see Kevin, they went inside to inform Kevin about the stranger.
"Let him in. I want to know who he is." Kevin ordered.
"Yes your majesty." The guard bowed and went back to get Carter from the gate. Carter looked around the huge mansion, he has never been somewhere this huge as far as he can remember. He imagined the kind of luxury Sia must be living in before she left.
Kevin stared at the man in front of him. He has a hoodie on and it's hard to tell who he is.
"You said you wanted to see me. Can I help you by any chance?" He asked Carter.
Carter bowed, "My name is Carter, I have come here in search of a job."
Kevin raised his brow in inquiry, "By any chance did you get a vacancy that my company is hiring people or did my family put a vacancy outside this place?"
"I am here on the request of someone important. I only want a job as your personal bodyguard for a short while."
"And why do you think I would let that? You obviously don't know me. I don't need a personal bodyguard, especially not from some psycho I don't know." Kevin said harshly.
"Your majesty, you don't suppose I have any evil plans against you do you? Why don't you investigate me if you doubt my credibility."
Kevin grunted in frustration, who is this young man and why is he bent on making things uneasy for him? He wonders where this psycho came from. And who is this special person that left all the available jobs in the world for him to become a bodyguard to a werewolf king.
"Carter or what did you call yourself... I don't need a personal bodyguard. I am perfectly fine without one. I have so many bodyguards already, having one will just be useless. Besides you know I'm an alpha right?" Kevin emphasized.
Seeing that he won't accept, Carter decided to leave and try again. Kevin felt relieved that he was leaving, he saw Carter as a joke. Carter stopped moving when he sensed something was about to happen. He closed his eyes and got the vision, he opened his eyes. He immediately pushed Kevin with great force and caught the arrow fired at him.
Everything happened so fast, the culprit ran away. Kevin was shocked looking at the arrow in Carter's hands. Did Carter just save him from getting pierced by that arrow?
"What just happened?" Kevin asked getting up. He looked around for the person but saw no one.
"You were just attacked by the people who want you dead Alpha." Carter explained with a smile.
Kevin scoffed, "Where is that person! I want to see the person! Get me whoever that is right now!"
The guard ran off to get the others. Kevin fumed in anger, how dare that person try to kill him!
"Tell me Carter, how did you know I was getting attacked?" Kevin asked him.
"Instincts. My sense is quite strong, I can sense danger even from a very far distance." Carter replied.
Kevin observed him closely. He doesn't trust this Carter yet something within him tells him to keep him close. He urged him to come close.
"Do you think you can catch the person behind this attack? I want to hire you secretly." He asked in a low voice.
Carter nodded, "Yes, I can. I promise you'll get the person responsible for this attack and every other problem you have."
"Then it's settled, you can start as soon as possible. I will ask them to prepare a room for you, but be rest assured that I am watching you..."
"I know you don't trust me yet. I want to assure you that you will trust me with time, I am only here to see to your well-being." Carter assured Kevin.
"We'll see about that." Kevin said, "Wait here, someone is coming to pick you up and show you to your room. Make sure you're available whenever I need you, and do not forget your task."
Carter bowed, "I understand."
Kevin left for his chambers. He took the arrow with him for examination. He stared at the arrow closely, he used a magnifying glass to check it. He saw a green substance glued to the tip.
Sheila came in and met him still checking the arrow.
"Kevin I just heard someone tried to kill you, is this the arrow?" She asked sitting beside him.
"Whoever did this was trying to kill me and that person is from this mansion." Kevin replied.
"But who could be behind this? What is their motive? That person has really got the nerves to..." She stopped talking.
"What is it?" He asked her worried.
"I just remembered something about mother. Kevin we have to get back to her room. There's something I want to show you." Sheila dragged him up.
Kevin got up and followed her to Annabelle's chambers. They stopped in front of her bed, Kevin gave Sheila a questioning look.
"What's up? You're not saying anything." Kevin asked her.
"Look at mom, she's sweating strangely. She is under this air conditioning and she's sweating like this. Also look at the table, her medication is all gone. It seems everything has been taken and..."
"Wait," Kevin stopped her, "You're saying that mother's medicine was taken and she has been sabotaged."
Sheila nodded. "Nina and I came here a while ago, she was very warm and looked like she just woke up even though she is asleep. I am worried Kevin, we need to do something."
"I'll get the doctor to check on her. Stay with her in the meantime." Kevin orders her, he went out of the room and called the doctor.
The doctor came as soon as possible with the necessary materials to do a proper test on Annabelle. He conducted the test, he was shocked with the results.
"Your majesty, we need to move her to the hospital right now. Her system needs cleansing, why did you give her all the dose of the injection?"
"We don't know who did that. Do whatever you can to save her life." Kevin said desperately. He doesn't understand who would have the guts to do this again. Sia was blamed at first for poisoning her, but it seems the real culprit is yet to be found and an innocent person is paying for the person's sin.
Annabelle was taken to the hospital, Sheila went with her mother. Nina rushed to Kevin when she heard what happened.
"Is it true someone tried to kill mother?" She asked looking around restlessly.
"I don't know who did it. That's my problem now, my mother won't die. I'm going to find whoever is responsible and crush that person to pieces." He gritted his teeth.
Nina saw how dead serious he was. She knows what really happened but doesn't know how to tell him. How is she supposed to tell him someone so close to him is responsible for everything happening to him?
"This is bad. What are you going to do now? We need to catch the person. We can't just sit by and watch that person tear this family apart." She protested.
"You're right. I won't let that person tear this family apart. I'll find them, no matter how they hide."
Carter walked away after hearing this. He decided to communicate with Sia through his mind. He sat on the floor at the middle with his eyes closed.
"Can you hear me?" He asked through his mind.
"You're speaking to me through my head? Wow your magic is top notch. I was already getting bored staying here alone." She replied.
He smiled, "I had a hard time convincing your Alpha."
"Oh, were you able to convince him then?"
"Someone attacked him, I was able to save him before he got killed. So he hired me as his personal guard. I'll be closer to him now."
Sia sighed, "That's good news. Thank you Carter, I knew I could count on you. I hope I can repay you one day."
"Yes, a good nice meal will do. You live in such a nice place, I feel jealous."
"You don't have to be. You're always welcome to stay there with me when all of this is over."
"Thank you Anastasia, I promise I won't let you down. I have to go now, I'll talk to you later. Someone is coming here."
"Quick! Come out of the trance immediately!"
Carter opened his eyes and stood up. His door suddenly opened and some girls brought in new clothes and shoes for him to wear.
