CHAPTER 77: ONE SELFISH WOMAN
I had to excuse myself for dinner and decided not to join the rest due to loss of appetite at what occurred a while ago inside Lewis’ room. I didn’t also wish to worry my father upon seeing my eyes puffy and gloomy, which I knew would deeply bother him and would eventually cause him to think too much. I stayed in my room in utmost silence, letting everything that happened earlier lingered in my head as I lay down steadily on my bed.
My eyes continued to shed in sorrow and pain, still couldn’t comprehend why history had to repeat itself on me and why out of all the people in the world it has to be me, who must suffer the same fate and same amount of miserable anguish all over again. The weight of what I did six years ago was so gravely severe that God intended to punish me this time as if I haven’t experienced suffering in the past.
Maybe I deserve all of these as payment for all the wrong deeds I committed to Pamela and Michael. Maybe I was destined to experience these as condign punishment to the crime I once did to the people I once considered as family. Although I accepted my fate and willing to pay the price of my past transgression, I still languished after Lewis and the love we had that was pine.
A soft knock at the door made my head slowly turn sideways, but I didn’t dare to move and climbed down the bed. I let the knocks continue for several more seconds until I heard my daughter’s soft and concerned voice behind it.
“Mommy? Are you awake? May I come in?”
I tried to deafen my ears on her and snatch my eyes from looking at the door. I wished to be alone for the time being as I mourn for the death of my love to the second man who I cherished in my heart. I didn’t wish to bother the people around me with the difficulties I am now facing, most especially my daughter, who I knew would be affected at the sight of me.
After a few more minutes, the knocks died down and eerie silence once again reigned. I’m not certain how many hours I’ve stayed wide awake, but when I decided to head out of my room to get myself something to eat, the lights were already dimmed as complete silence filled the entire household.
With gentle and tortoise-like movements, I made my way towards the kitchen and headed straight to the fridge, using only the dim lights from the outside as my guide. I grabbed some fresh milk and my chilled mug before closing the fridge.
“Be careful not to hurt yourself by stumbling in the dark.”
My heart literally jumped off from its ribcage, which made me loosen both grips on the mug and milk I was holding, falling straight to the floor. I was taken aback as I placed a trembling hand on my drumming chest and my eyes were dilated with horror as I looked straight at the shadow that was seated at one of the stools behind the island countertop.
“Fuck!” I muttered out of shock and fright.
The shadow moved hastily and before I knew it, I was swept off my feet and being carried away from the rubbish on the flooring. The sudden commotion made my mind at a hold still, but my other senses were alertly functioning. Even without the sense of sight due to lack of lumination, I am fully aware that the manly scent I am smelling only belongs to a certain man and I definitely knew by heart who the bearer was.
“Put me down” I abruptly grunted, wanting to be away from him as much as possible, because his mere presence literally made my heart contract with enormous pain.
He did what he was told, gently placing me down on my ground before walking a few distance away from me. I was about to move swiftly and walk out of the kitchen when he said something that made my steps halt.
“I managed to acquire the proof I needed to justify my claims. I hope it will somehow make you reconsider the decision you’ve made. It’s there on the countertop, it’s yours.”
With that, he strode out of the kitchen without saying another word and left me on my own. I wouldn’t deny that the coldness of his words and the voidness of emotions from them made my spine chill and my heart longing for their accustomed warmth. I had to suppress myself from tearing down, since I was the one who placed ourselves in this barricaded condition.
After taking several laborious breaths, my feet automatically headed to the light switch and turned it on before walking towards the island counter where a folded piece of paper lies on top. I sat from where he was seated and slowly reached the paper with a shivering hand. My eyes read the content with much attention.
At first, I was skeptical with what I’ve read. I was somewhat suspicious and doubtful of its content as it may be fabricated for his personal interest and motives, but after analyzing everything and retracting what he devotedly uttered earlier in his room, realization struck me with extreme intensity that made me cry rivers of tears of how our relationship was played and tricked by fate.
I could feel anger intended for one person slowly rising inside of me as my head started to connect every puzzle piece together. After ample time of analysis and thorough thinking, I stormed swiftly out of the kitchen and purposely headed to where I was grudgingly aching to be at.
My eyes caught sight of Lewis, who was standing beside his doorstep and obviously waiting for my arrival. He must have foreseen what I had in mind, because he was waiting there patiently and with expectancy. I walked towards him, but I didn’t stop at his doorstep and continued to progress.
“I didn’t come for you” I murmured nonchalantly after witnessing how his eyes lingered at me. He must have expected that I graced the third floor for him, but he was mistaken, because all I ever wanted now was to face the she-devil herself, who viciously destroyed the good relationship I had with the man I loved.
“I am fully aware of that. But as you can see, it’s way past midnight. You will wake up the entire household if you push through what you had in mind.”
“Who cares what I wish to do? This is my territory and I will never tolerate any filthy and sleazing snakes lurking around my premises” I exclaimed with gritted teeth.
“Alright, if you say so. Go ahead then.”
I looked back at him with annoyance, but he remained poker faced and rooted at where he was. The minute I was at Nicole’s doorstep, my hand pounded the door as I screamed at the top of my lungs.
“Nicole! Open this goddamn door!”
It took a while and several more poundings before I heard the doorknob click open. An obviously startled and disturbed from deep slumber Nicole appeared right in front of me.
“What the fuck is going on here? Miss Hunt?” She sleepily asked while literally stunned to see me.
“Here’s what’s going on!”
Out of nowhere and in full force, my hand sharply slapped her face, putting all my anger with that one single hit, which made her abruptly step backward as she held her reddened cheek with eyes starting to accumulate tears.
“Shit! What’s that for?”
“That’s for trying to ruin my relationship with Lewis! And this…” I hit the same cheek again with another hard and solid strike, which literally made her crumpled on her feet and writhing in pain. “That’s for hurting me with what you did, you two-faced bitch! You thought you could simply take what’s mine? Well newsflash! I’m one selfish woman who doesn’t share her man to anyone.”
“I don’t know what you were talking about, Miss Hunt,” She uttered with conviction as she gradually stood up.
“Oh cut the bullshit, bitch! I had been on this same road you are heading now, so don’t act dumb on me! You can’t fool me, Nicole! Besides,” I wriggled the paper I was holding on my other hand in front of her. “Here’s the proof of the crime you atrociously committed against Lewis. You drugged him so you could bed him and in the long run blackmail him to do what you wish for him. That’s very desperate of you, Nicole, very desperate indeed.”
“That’s…”
My words swiftly interrupted what she was about to say. “Save your lies to yourself, Nicole. No ones interested in listening to them. Vacate my territory this instance. I don’t want to see your face the next morning. Don’t you dare test my patience, because I don’t have a lot with people like you.”
I didn’t wait for her to respond and hastily walked away. Lewis was still standing next to his room and continued to watch me as I went. When I was about to walk past him and not intending to have a word with him yet, he moved at a rapid pace. At a lightspeed, he purposely grabbed my arm, dragging me inside his room before pinning me behind the closed door.
I was about to voice out my protest for his drastic and unforeseen movement, when out of the blue and as if he already planned ahead his course of actions would be, his lips forcefully locked into mine and secured them in a way that completely made me helplessly grounded from where I stood.
He kissed me torridly and fervently, which didn't only prevent all the words from getting out of my mouth, but literally made me melt in his vicious yet highly intoxicating sweet assault. I could feel myself slowly surrendering in his mesmerizing onslaught as he continued teasing and pleasuring my lips.
“You don’t know how turned on you made me by claiming me yours, Baby. I wished to tear all your clothes off and make you feel how solely I am yours.”
