A Conversation

Kaden

I watched as Isabelle lightly traced small patterns on the veins on my hand, she'd taken an interest in them ever since we'd come back in the room. Layla had gone back to the guest room although there was a small hint of reluctance in her, that wasn't because of fear. It was about something else.

She'd been my friend from childhood but the past few days I had seen an opposite side of her and it didn't make me want to like her anymore even as a friend. All that mattered to me was my mate who was now laying on the top of my body with half of her weight falling on the bed and her head on my chest.

I could tell, she liked to my heartbeats because she did that more often as though she had found a strange sort of interest in them that I couldn't.

"Isabelle..." I called her name and she slowly looked up at me.

"Yeah?" She spoke, her sweet voice as always felt like a melody to my ears.

"Are you sure that you noticed bloodstains on Layla's nails?"

She went silent for a few seconds, from her expression it was easy to identify that she was recalling the memory in her mind. And a moment later she nodded at me.

"Okay, thanks for helping me love," I placed a kiss on her forehead feeling her relax against me again. She by her own laid her head back on my chest, her fingers now slowly trailing up the blue veins stopping where my sleeves were rolled up to.

Having her close to me helped me recede my worry. Two reasons bugged me--: Layla's strange behavior, Two: The abandoned bungalow found in the east, the location of the middle of the hill that had no sign of living whatsoever.

I knew that day Isabelle might have come from someplace around the east, but there was also another thing that I knew....her captors were clever enough to keep her somewhere away from anyone's reach.

There was no chance that I could find her captors there, neither did I intend to find them. All I wanted was to get some clues about her, from where she had come and who were her parents. She mentioned that day at the dining table that she was an orphan and the look in her eyes didn't really say that their death was normal...I just felt it.

That look in her eyes, I had just never seen that gloom before.

I had a feeling that bungalow could give me any possible clues that'd help me know about Isabelle, that place had been abandoned for years....probably more than a decade. And a place situated away from the locals could really be a hiding spot or maybe the place Isabelle was kept.

And I needed to go there before anyone else could and destroy all the proof that could lead me to my answers. And I was intending to go there tomorrow morning but last time how scared Isabelle got because of mere thunderstorms made me hesitant but it was important. I needed to go there.

"Angel..." I called her, her fingers running down my hand stopped and she lifted her head again to look at me with those beautiful blue eyes. They seem to shine under the light, and her freckles looked, even more, prettier from this view.

A strong knot formed in my chest, I knew she wasn't going to be pleased with the news I was going to give her.

"Yes, Kaden..." She moved closer before she nestled her head under my chin, her arms now wrapped around me as she made herself comfortable.

Well...damn! Staying away from her for even a day was going to be hard.

"I have something to tell you," I spoke. This seemed to get her attention but not that much since she made herself busy by raising her head the slightest bit so that she could press her nose against my neck inhaling my scent there.

It was so hard to control myself at this point, here I was trying to make myself have a serious conversation and there she was fully awakening my Lycan by her innocent movements that were more than arousing.

"Angel, it's important," Of course, my voice came out hoarse because of the dryness in my throat that'd magically appeared after Isabelle's naive little move.

"What is it?" She finally allowed her attention to me and slowly sat up.

The distance instantly made me crave to pull her close again, I loved it when she was in my arms. Damn, I wanted to keep close to me for my entire life.

I made myself sit too, leaning it so that I could tuck a piece of her Auburn hair strand behind her ear.

God! Even her hair smelt heavenly.

"First you need to promise that you won't get sad or think anything negative," I held out my hand at her.

She looked at my hand for a while as if she was debating whether to agree or not had them she grabbed my hand with her left one before she locked her pinky with mine.

So this was her way of promising.... A smile formed on my lips upon her cute movement.

"Promise," She spoke.

"Tomorrow morning I'll need to go for some work," As the sentence left my mouth I saw her body go frozen, "But I can return early in the next morning," I quickly added but it didn't make her expression any better.

I hated seeing her sad but I couldn't tell her I was going there only because of her. I wanted her safe and sound so that I could keep her with me for the rest of my life and for that I needed to know more about her.

"Come here," I pulled her close to me, she didn't hesitate at all instead she leaned in my touch.

"I know you don't like it but sweetheart, It's important and I promise this is going to be the last time," I spoke, kissing the side of her head.

"Can't you take me with you?" She asked.

"No, sweetheart," I hated to say no to her but I couldn't take her thereafter knowing that there could be many risks, "But I promise that this time I will try to come early as possible, and you'll find me beside you before you even wake up the next morning." I smiled at her.

"Promise?" She held out her pinky I repeated her prior action by locking mine with her.

A small smile crept on her pink petal-like lips, and she hugged me, "I'll miss you, Kaden," She spoke, a sadness roofing her voice but not too much.

"I'll miss you too my Angel," I hugged her back, her body perfectly fitted against mine. She belonged here and I'll make sure that she'll always be here no matter how many boundaries I needed to cross.

"And yes, if you feel scared or anything like that you'll call Cassandra or Carter. Their rooms aren't far away if you just call their name a little louder they'll be able to hear you." I said and she nodded.

"Take care of yourself and don't get hurt," She spoke, I couldn't hold back the smile St her statement. She cared for me, in fact, I knew she cared for everyone--She, of course, had a good heart, her kindness, and sweet gestures were not unknown to me. God knows who could even think of hurting someone so pure as her.

"Kaden, after you come I have something to tell you too," She suddenly spoke.

"What is it?" I asked.

"You'll get to know after you come back," She looked up smiling.

"Is this your kind of way to keep me curious for the entire time?" I chuckled and a giggle slipped past her lips too.

"No, but I think you deserve to know about it and I'll tell you once you come back," She said, her voice growing a little serious.

I wanted to ask her or maybe insist to tell me now but I kept my curiosity aside, it was a matter of a day. I think I could manage.

"Okay, Angel," I pulled her to my chest again, "Take care of yourself while I am away."

"I will," She nodded snuggling closer to me, her scent wafted into my nostrils again, and my body relaxed. Her steady breathing replaced the silence of the room, my hand drew small circles on her lower back, and slowly I watched her fall asleep in my arms like always.

Tomorrow was going to be a tough day but maybe tomorrow could also lead me to some clues that'd solve many of the mysteries surrounding the beauty that laid my arms now peacefully sleeping whilst holding onto my shirt as if she didn't want to let go of me even for a second.
