A Missed Opportunity

The palace came in my view stirring awake a part of me. The griffin seems to recognize it as well and it let out a screech, spreading his eagle wings wider as it landed on the top of the castle.

I hopped down before glancing at the window closer to my reach, it seemed like I had to break through the window to get inside the palace.

I looked at the creature who seemed to understand my message and lightly nodded at me before he flew away but not before breaking the window of his own will with the help of my stroke of his strong wings.

The glass on the window shattered everywhere, the sound it disturbing the silence but my assumption turned wrong as I saw there were no guards to be found. The loud impact did not catch anyone's attention or maybe this side of the palace was not held with the importance.

I slid down on the surface before holding onto the edge of the broken window not exactly caring about glass pieces digging into my palm and climbed inside.

Flambeaus were lined up against the wall, more of a dark color than the darkness hinges the walls of the palace and the color of the carpet. From outside I had not thought the palace would be so dark in reality.

I could not fathom the feeling of a liquid trailing down my arm until I noticed where a piece of glass has dug its way inside the layers of my skin on my arm.

I plucked it out and threw it out of the window. My shirt had multiple holes inside it and could not be considered a fabric anymore, so tearing a piece up from it I wrapped it around my wound on my palm and bicep before I threw it away too.

There was a strange smell in the palace, more likely the smell of rotten animals or maybe other creatures....humans did not fall back from the category.

I grabbed a flambeau before I advanced toward the corridor, my eyes taking a look at the number of the rooms--The number started from 1206.

I knew which room Isabella was kept in but in this huge palace, it was difficult to tell where exactly room number 906 was because the corridor had separated into three ways.

As I advanced in one direction, I soon noticed the rooms didn't have numbers at all that corridor had was numerous dead bodies and skeletons, there were bloodstains all over the walls. Some looked fresh whilst some looked old...very old.

The disgust crawled up my skin at the smell and I quickly walked towards the other corridor, but unfortunately, it was in the same state even worse because I barely got to step inside as the floor was covered with dead bodies in its decomposition state making it impossible to get further inside.

Two attempts but none of those Corridor could lead me to my Isabelle. At this point, my restlessness was at its peak--The thought of Isabelle being in the state of these lifeless bodies shook my soul.

Nothing could happen to her.

She'll be fine, nothing can happen to her.

I took a deep breath to control myself and walked in the direction of the only corridor that was left--I hoped this one would lead me to the room where Isabelle was being captive in.

As I began walking in, I could notice the path was getting darker and darker. The numbers of Flambeau were gradually lessening making the place have the atmosphere darker than the Althea.

There was this odd feeling about the palace that I couldn't decipher, something very dark as if the silence that had engulfed the place was jotted down with the sufferings of the countless people whose bloodstains were however there as evidence of the sins Alistair and his brothers have committed.

God knew how many innocent were murdered by this demonic creature.

Passing numerous numbers of rooms, A sudden feeling washed over me when I finally saw the room numbered 960.

My heart beat faster and I found myself sprinting to the room with all of my speed.

Her name fell off my lips automatically as I reached to the door and opened it with a swift jerk, "Isabelle..."

The empty room diminished all my hopes within a second, I found myself walking inside the room and looking at the corners to double-check.

She wasn't here but her scent was.....the feel of her presence that was here before I had come. She was here and couldn't be taken much far, her scent was very prominent which could only mean they had taken her out of the room minutes before I had arrived.

The growl left my mouth and I ran out of the room to the direction where the corridor led, I could feel Isabelle's scent getting stronger each second.

I hurriedly passed the corridor the throne room came into my view, it was empty... Not even a single living could be spotted but the thing that still kept me together was the scent of Isabelle my Lycan could trace.

It trailed out of the corridor as if she had just walked past here, but amidst the heavenly scent of her, there was a Lycan's smell too...it was easy to confirm that it could be none other than Alistair.

So that demon was taking my angel somewhere else...

A growl slipped past my lips at the thought and before I even knew I was following the smell using my full speed to reach the doorway faster.

I had to save her, this was the chance I couldn't miss.

She must be close.

My Lycan was trying to surface but I have to refrain from him because the creatures around the palace would certainly be able to get to know my presence if I shift in that form.

I walked out of the hall through the huge door and then I saw her......Isabelle.

Two guards were dragging her outside, and despite her attempts, she couldn't make herself free from what seemed like a very painful grip. In front of her, there was Alistair who was leading the way outside of the palace.

The rage craved within every cell of my body, my nails extended, and in seconds the canines tore from my gums. The animalistic power surged inside and just when I was about to use my speed to reach them, something hard hit the back of my head.

My world spun for a second, and Isabelle started getting out of my sight as the blur shaded my eyes. My legs that would have had run to reach my mate lost their balance and I fell on my knees whilst my hands automatically moved to hold onto the back of my head, the buzzing sound in my ears silenced the conversation that occurred between the attackers I couldn't see.

And then everything went black.
