Chapter 37
Jasmine
The nightmare stirred awake in the darkness behind my eyelids, I watched in horror as the widespread fire took everything into it.
The flowers in the garden turned into mere ashes. The terrifying feeling scared me to my core, the agonizing shouts of the people who were either burning in the flames of the fire or facing the wrath of the brutes hiding beneath the skin of the rouges.
It was the last moments of... Vaidel Dynasty.
I watched from afar, looking at the destruction but unable to do anything or pass the invisible boundary that had kept me in the place leaving no scope to move or approach.
Blood.
Everywhere I looked, there was either blood or intense fire that looked redder than the color of blood itself.
And suddenly, the view of one particular window of the palace surrounded by the flames of the gigantic fire flashed in front of my eyes.
I looked at the window and despite it being miles away, I could see every single thing happening in the room. Every horrific event surged a part of me.
Everything around me seemed to fall into the never-ending silence and the face of a little girl was what I saw, her identical brown eyes met with mine for one mere second.
It took me two seconds to identify that she was none other than me, the part of me whose memories had been wiped off from my reminiscence. Whose memories had all the answers lying in them, the memories that could lead me to my answers?
Her eyes were filled with tears, there was this look of panic and overwhelming fear that crossed her expression.
Then I saw a woman approaching and grabbing her hand, she turned away from the window and my eyes slowly moved to spot the woman's face.
My heart stopped as well as every sound around including the screams, shouts, the crash of fire, and the noise of swords stopped. A pin-drop silence fell everywhere even though the horrendous sceneries of the attack that was still going on remained evident and clear in my sight.
But I couldn't tear my gaze away from the woman, her blonde hair, light blue eyes, and very familiar warmth I could observe despite being miles away, everything had surrounded me as if they were here to break the heavy chain that had kept all my remembrances blocked for years.
"Mom? What's happening?" The girl I had identified as my child self questioned the woman making all the air in my lungs leave my system at that very moment.
Mom.....
She was my mother?
The sudden urge to reach her despite the gigantic flames of fire that had the place surrounded rose within me, but my feet couldn't move. As if they were glued to the spot and something was not allowing me to reach them at any cost.
There were tear glistening in her eyes, the helplessness had taken over her blue eyes of hers.
"Don't worry sweetheart, we are not going to let anything happen to you," She picked my child self in her arms and ran out of the room in a hurry.
She held me as if she would protect me from every evil, she looked at me as though she would never let anything happen to me even though it took the cost of her own life.
Unknowingly a tear slid down my own eyes as I watched myself with my mother...
There was this feeling that triggered the restlessness that was already diminishing my strength and the ability to witness what was going to happen next, the feeling that the worst reality was yet to be witnessed.
As they exited the room, the window closed shut with a loud thud. A whiff of wind brushed past me and the darkness accompanied the soul-shaking silence, existing for a short period before another window opened opening the view to another room where the view was much worse than I had possibly imagined.
All the pieces of furniture in the room were broken to the point they could barely be called anything other than destroyed pieces of wood, the scattering pieces of glass were everywhere and a few dead bodies could be spotted of soldiers and the rouges could be spotted too.
In the middle of the dead bodies there stood a man, red eyes full of rage, face covered in blood, and hand strongly holding the sword that too dripped with the blood of the enemies. An unbeatable strength was radiating from him, making him look powerful and unmoved despite the unavoidable storm and uncertainty that had taken over the entire kingdom.
Suddenly the door of the room opened, revealing my mother who ran inside with me in her arms that were tightly holding me to her as though I'd disappear if she loosened her hold on me.
More tears automatically rolled down my eyes, I could feel the emotions my child self was going through, I could directly feel the loudly beating heart of my mom and how scared she was from inside.
A gasp slipped past her lips as she watched the dead bodies in horror and the blood that now began to trail down the arm of the man taking my attention to notice the wound I had not noticed till now.
"Dad, you are hurt..." I watched as a cry slipped past my lips of mine and tears poured down my cheeks.
And suddenly I was harshly dragged into darkness and everything got away from my view.
I woke up with a loud gasp, my breathing coming out as pants and my heart beating like a drum. The sound of my own blood speedily pumping in my veins buzzed in my ears. Sweat glided down the side of my forehead and my eyes looked everywhere to confirm where I was. A sigh of relief fell off my lips once I noticed that I was no longer standing in the middle of that storm, I was home.
It was not that dark night anymore, it was morning.
But the short-lasting relief quickly faded away, as what I had seen in the dream flashed in front of my eyes. Playing like footage.
The sound of the door getting opened distracted me and I saw Archer and Micheal walking inside the room.
"Oh, so you have woken up," Micheal walked closer attempting to probably kiss on my lips but as he leaned in he seemed to notice my uneven breathing and restless posture.
"Why do you look so tense?" He asked, his hand rising to cheek my temperature by pressing the back of his hand against my forehead and then the side of my neck.
"What happened, Jasmine?"Archer walked closer, his eyes showing concern as he looked at me.
"I-I...It's nothing," I stuttered and this caused their skepticism to rise even more.
"Jasmine, you know we are not buying your lie, don't you?" Archer asked, his lips forming a thin line.
"So now whether you tell us the truth or we find other ways to get that out of you," Micheal added.
My shoulders dropped in defeat and a sigh slipped past my lips as well, "I had a nightmare."
"A nightmare?" Archer asked more likely in confusion and I nodded.
"Come here, then," Micheal sat on the bed and pulled me all the way until I was right on top of his lap.
"You scared us, little one," Archer murmured and leaned in placing a kiss on my forehead followed by Micheal who comfortably squeezed my hands.
"What did you see?" Micheal asked after a few minutes of silence.
His words once again began striking awake the turmoil, "Can we not talk about it, please?" I asked, lowly.
Micheal and Archer did not say anything for a while before Archer spoke.
"Okay then, tell me what would you like to have for breakfast?" He smiled at me and a small smile made its way onto my lips.
"Anything will be fine."
"Pancakes then, is it?" Micheal chuckled and watching how brightly the smile had taken over their face, even though I had no hunger at all I nodded.
"Okay, I'll tell the guards to inform the maid that their queen wants to have pancakes for breakfast," Archer placed a quick smooch on my lips and walked out.
"Where's Lucien?" I asked Micheal.
"He is handling some royal matters, paperwork and kinds of stuff and a meeting with some representatives" He informed.
"Alone?"
"We'll probably need to join him in an hour, right now he is only taking care of the paperwork."
"So that means you all are going to be busy for the rest of the day?" I could not help the disappointment that became apparent in my voice.
"Unfortunately yes, but we have the night together," He leaned closer to my face, "We can try something interesting," HIs voice grew suggestive causing the blush to take over my face.
But before he could say anything else, Archer got back into the room followed by a made who had a breakfast tray in her hand.
"Archer, you were supposed to bring only pancakes!" The disbelieve laced my expression as I looked at the enormous type of foods placed on the plate, or plates may I add.
"I can not remember you saying the word 'only' at all," He put on his act, sounding more innocent than a toddler.
"I can't believe you!" I was exasperated and I felt Micheal suppressing a snicker.
"Come one. We won't mind a little more meat on you," Archer chuckled ruffling my hair before he placed the small tray on my lap and held out the fork and knife for me.
I tried to keep my glare but unknowingly a smile broke on my face despite all my efforts.
"I just can't with you all," I shook my head and took the fork cutlery from his hand.
"There's no way out for you, you are stuck with us forever," Micheal said.
And if I had said that hearing this sentence from his mouth did not make me happier more than I had been these few days, it'd be a lie.
"I wish so too," A melancholic smile tugged at my lips as I looked at them, not missing the flicker that passed their eyes.
Without saying anything else I began taking the breakfast in silence bearing in mind that after they would leave, I had something more important to handle other than sitting and assuming things about the past that had already started unfolding itself.
