Chapter 13

Jasmine

The kitchen was where I found Martha after searching her almost entire palace. She was cutting veggies with some other maids.

"Hey, Martha," I walked towards her. She glanced at me, a smile forming on her lips as she did.

"Where were you the whole day, Miss Jasmine?" She chuckled and turned back now fully facing me.

"Umm...I was.." I hesitated, "Forget it, I have something to tell you."

"What?" She questioned.

"I-I...Um, yesterday...I-I..."Like a moron, I was, my stammering was the only thing that came out of my mouth, well of course the few words didn't make any sense.

"Do you have a fever, sweetheart?" She came and placed her hand on my forehead, checking my supposedly normal temperature.

"No, I don't." I quickly spluttered, "It's just that, I need to...to tell you something."

"What is it? And why do you look nervous?" Concern laced her voice, "Did something happen?"

"No," I instantly shook my head.

"Then, what is it?"She asked.

I glanced at the maids beside her, the kitchen was filled with workers, and I didn't know if they were eavesdropping or not. I didn't want anyone else to know about it, for now.

"Can we just go to your room and talk about it?" I questioned. She must've noticed my glance at the maids so she took no time in agreeing and following me.

As we reached her room, I locked the door to make sure anyone else don't get to hear our conversations.

"You know that yesterday was the full moon festival and on that day Vampires are supposed to find their mates?" I began.

"Yeah, I do," She responded, still looking clueless, " But why are asking me this question?"

"Well, It's unusual for Vampires to have a human as their mate but...Yesterday, I got to find out...to be true, the kings got to find out that I'm there," I paused for a second, "Mate." I breathed out.

Martha's eyes widened, her brows rose in shock. The loud gasp that escaped her lips almost made it look as if she was...terrified by the news, something I hadn't expected at all.

"What?" She shrieked and her hands flew to her mouth.

"Yeah, it's true," Stuttered, "I've felt this weird pull towards them from the start, I thought it was because they were extremely attractive but then yesterday, I got to find the truth and they got to find that I'm their mate."

"Why didn't you tell me before that you were feeling the sparks of the mate bond?" She nearly shouted.

How did she know about the sparks?

"How could I know? I didn't even know about the mate bond before." I exclaimed.

"No! it can't happen, it shouldn't have happened," She began hyperventilating, "God! This wasn't supposed to happen. How could I get so irresponsible and....oh no!"

What was she even talking about? I couldn't understand anything behind the panic I could rushing into her, It was almost as if something she feared the outcomes.

"Martha...What's wrong?" I reached out to her.

Her hand was clutching the side of the table as though she would lose her balance without her hold on it. It was utterly confusing why Martha was even reacting like this.

"This shouldn't have happened, I promised them." Her breathing started getting uneven.

"Promise who?"

She didn't pay attention to my question.

"How could I be so careless! This is not good, it'll create problems again." She shook her head, the restlessness in her movements I had never seen before.

"Martha, listen to me," I tried to speak but she kept saying things that I couldn't understand at all. Her words were panicked and scrambled.

"How could I be so careless! This is not good, this is...."

"Martha!" I finally shouted and grabbed her by her arms, "What are you talking about?" my loud voice seemed to manage in breaking whichever daze she was in.

I saw her blinking a couple of times and a shocked expression draped over her face, she opened and closed her mouth a couple of times but no word left her.

"Come here, sit." I made her sit on the bed, "Relax, just relax."

A soft sigh slipped past her lips.

I let her be in silence for a couple of minutes, I didn't know what was really going on in her mind. I could only notice her perturbation, the reason behind it I could understand bare minimum.

"What's wrong Martha? Why are you so restless?" I asked and rested my hand on her shoulder.

"Umm.....it's nothing. It's just that this has never happened before, a human being Vampires' mate could be risky and even life-threatening." She heaved out. For some reason I knew, this wasn't the exact thing she was terrified of.

"But why were you saying that, you became irresponsible and you promised something to someone?"

Her body stiffened upon my question, I could see the slight widening of her eyes even though she was not really facing me.

"It meant nothing, I just panicked and blabbered nonsense." She blurted out.

It was not the truth. I knew she was lying and supposedly hiding something from me. Her behavior was so perplexing, I could barely wrap my head around it. But was asking her again going to get me my answers? No.

"Are you okay with me being with them?" I asked softly.

She remained mum for a moment before she finally spoke, "It's not about me. It's about you, do you want to be with them?"

I didn't know if saying would be correct or not, I had just found out that I'm their mate and, to be honest, I could really feel the strong pull towards them and even more since they kissed me. It was impossible not to lean in their touch. Everything had happened so fast that I didn't even know if I was making the right decision or not.

But all I knew was that I didn't want to push them away, I didn't want to resist the sparks their touch sent to my body, and lastly their scent that lured me like a spell.

"I don't know. Everything happened so fast that I just feel lost but I don't want to push them away. I like being around them, everything feels so peaceful when I'm with them." I sighed out, "It wouldn't be so complex if I was a vampire, but I am not. I'm a human and despite that, they are still extremely happy after finding me. I just can't unsee the happiness I saw in their eyes."

Her expression softened upon my sentence, I'd even noticed a look of guilt passing through her eyes but that didn't turn out apparent or maybe she didn't let it.

"It's okay," She gently caressed my cheek, "Do what your heart says."

"Thanks, Martha." Smiling I hugged her.

"You deserve all the happiness, Jasmine." She whispered and I found myself nodding to her statement.
