Closing A Chapter
Isabelle
Kaden's body dropped to the ground with a loud thud.
I looked with my eyes wide in horror as the blood gushed out from the new wound, it was drawn on his chest...deep.
"Kaden!" I cried out and rushed toward him.
His body was shifting back into its human form on his own but the process was slow, very slow as if he was trying to refrain himself from shiting back. His dark eyes looked into mine, a look of misery shaded them.
As his human skin started getting visible, I could notice how deep the cut was. It was almost as if it had punctured through all layers and was an inch away from getting in his stomach.
I pulled his head on my lap, crying as I looked at the wound. I slowly let my fingers emit the healing rays and brushed them on the wound but Alas! The wound wasn't healing.
I began panicking and attempted again to heal his wounds but it wasn't working. My powers were not working on him, just like they didn't that day while I tried to heal Orabelle.
The first sob left my mouth as I looked into Kaden's eyes, his body had shifted into its human form. The cut started from the middle of his chest. His blood trailed down and soaked his jeans turning their color into bloodred.
There was a look of regret that remained there on his face as if he was blaming himself for not being able to protect me.
"Isabelle..." He struggled to breathe as he was continuously losing blood.
"Kaden....." I did not know what could I say. I did not want to lose him, I did not want to see him being taken away from me by those same demons.
Even my powers weren't working!
Multiple footsteps rushing inside the room were heard and the sight of Jason, Cassandra, and Carter walking inside with blood-soaked clothes caught my gaze. But the blood on their clothes did not belong to them....these were of those guards they have taken down.
"Oh, God! Kaden..." Worried Cassandra ran towards us.
Jason and Carter looked too shocked at the sight of Kaden's injury to even react, their feet have frozen.
I could see from the corner of my eyes that Julian was tracing Kaden's blood on the sharp edge. A malicious tug at the corner of his lips as though he enjoyed the view.
Cassandra's eyes filled with tears as she looked at Kaden's state. His blood was now everywhere and no matter how much I tried I couldn't heal him. My powers were not working at all.
"Good, now the whole family is here to mourn over your death, Kaden Moretti..." Alistair's voice boomed from the back.
He had shifted in his human form and not even a single injury could be spotted, the lack of injuries on his filthy made my blood boil. The rage crawled up my skin, the overpowering rage began growing inside. The storm wanted to become known and destroy everything.
"You fucking bastard..." Jason growled and tried to speed in Alistair's direction but Julian pressed the sword against his throat.
"One more step and you'll be dead," Julian spoke, his eyes daring Jason to take another step and face the consequences.
"You...." Carter began but his words remained untold as Kaden's voice interrupted.
"Guys.... escort Isabelle to a safe place..." He struggled to sit up, the continuous flow of the blood increased as he moved.
"Kaden, please don't move," I rushed out in panic, holding onto his shoulder to stop himself from sitting up.
"Isabelle...I.." He tried to speak but I put my finger on his lips silencing him, the tears sliding down my cheek as I looked into his eyes.
I was not going anywhere without him.....
If death was what is written in our fates then let it be, I was not going to run away like a coward. It was my turn to protect my mate, to stop the demons from snatching my happiness once again.
It was my turn to fight.
"Angel, listen to me very carefully. You are going..." His words ended up with a painful hiss as he shifted to glance at Cassandra.
Cassandra seemed to be unable to stop her sobs, the look of pain and grief was painted on her face as if she had almost accepted the fact that she was going to lose her brother.
"You are going to have to go with Cassandra and others, they'll take you to a safe place until they manage to get any support who can protect you..." He sucked in a breath, his eyelids falling heavier.
The sudden pain attacked my heart at his words, the meaning beneath them.
"Cassandra, I'll stop them for as long as I can. You guys have to get out of here, Isabelle should be safe." He spoke up and attempted to sit but this time his own body didn't support him and he ended him falling back with his head on my lap.
"Kaden...how can I-I leave you like this?" Cassandra sobbed, "I can't do that ..."
"You have to, You have to save my mate. In my absence, you all have to keep her safe. You have to send her somewhere far away from where there would be no risks to her life." He breathed out, he was struggling to breathe.
"She deserves to be happy, and unfortunately I can't be there for her." He glanced at me, his eyes were glistening with tears.
"You are not going anywhere," I finally spoke, my words came out louder and sterner than ever as if someone else had taken over my body and the control was no longer mine.
"Isabelle, listen to me..." I cut him off by putting my hand over his mouth, I leaned in pressing my forehead against his. The scent of him now was only of his blood, there was no warmth in his skin...it was getting colder and colder.
"I'll not let anything happen to us, today it won't be the journey of us that is going to end it'll be the ones who have started it." I breathed out, moving my fingertips and caressing his face.
"Did you hear her, Alistair? She is going to fight us!" Draven's laugh echoed the place stirring the already overpowering rage.
An unfamiliar power started taking over my body as if it was a new entity that always lived within my body but did not wake up till now--It was me but at the same time it wasn't.
"Let's see how she kills us," Alistair laughed pulling out his silver dagger, "I'll start by finishing her mate who's anyway going to die within a few minutes."
He began approaching with slow steps.
"Don't you dare to do anything like that!" Jason shouted attempting to reach us but Julian harshly stopped him, the sword had now left an injury on his throat.
Carter's try went in vein Draven blocked his way.
"Cassandra...move away.." I found myself saying without even looking at her.
Kaden was slowly falling senseless, his eyes were not open anymore but the struggle was still there. He was trying to the last drops of his strength to keep himself together but the evident blood loss and the numerous injuries had left him unable to do so.
The pain going through me at seeing him in this state added to the rage that began transforming into the powers I had never felt. The rays started gathering at my fingertips waiting for my one command to explode and destroy everything, my wings that were edge away from tearing through my skin from the shield that would protect my mate.
"Isabelle....." Cassandra tried to speak but my next words came out before she could even finish speaking.
"Do what I say, Cassandra," I emphasized, "Move. Away."
I could feel the surprise my command brought in her and she hastily stood up before taking multiple steps backward.
"Thanks for clearing my path, Isabelle. Now I can kill you and your mate more peacefully." Alistair's menacing voice spoke and his dark shadow reflected on the marble tiles, the evil glint that had always been in his eyes became more evident than ever.
There was a look of joy too...
A short-lasting joy that was there because he thought he could kill us, he thought he was going to succeed.
"Remember you have much more strength than you think. We will always be just beside you" Mom's voice rang in my ears, the memory of that night flashing in front of my eyes.
The storm inside of me became even more intense, each the remembrances of the injustice done to me adding fuel to the fire. The everlasting turmoil did not result in any distress, only rage that wanted to tear through and take everything in the deadly blaze.
"Back away, Alistair..." I spoke up as I noticed him taking another step forward.
His feet froze and despite having my eyes fixed on my mate I could feel his surprise in the lowest tone I had used as if he had gotten a glimpse of the threat I tried to convey.
"Oh my God! You scared me, Isabelle. I am scared for my life!" Alistair's provoking mock triggered my nerves, the preceding intractable anger got an edge near making me want to destroy everything.
"Alistair, just kill her already!" I had Julian's voice, a mixture of anger and unexpected suspicion residing at the corner as if it did not make itself visible.
"Oh I am going to do that anyway," Alistair spoke through gritted teeth taking one step forward overpowered with anger and that was it.
All my restraints were broken in a blink, the years the powers had not succeeded decided to get through.
"Back away, Alistair!" The shout from me left the demon stunned and his feet took multiple steps backward and his eyes went wider as if it was not the helpless whose life had been ruined by him he was looking at, it was someone stronger and powerful that made the terror crawl up his walls.
An unbelievable flame exploded inside of me whilst my wings tore through my skin and the flimsy fabric, stronger and wider than ever toey spread themselves before shielding Kaden and me.
The healing rays that had only had the path of my fingertips to make their way through, now emitted from my entire hand. The blue and purple rays radiated from my skin and a sudden control over the atmosphere struck me.
I turned the elements against the monsters--I let the fire surround Kaden and Me, the words shield us, and the dust surrounding their beings.
Whilst the fire within me ignited more and more, my eyes moved to glance at Kaden. His eyes were closed and his face turned paler at the evident blood loss, the steady heartbeats of his were turning fainter and fainter.
The love for him stirred awake in the storm of rage, the sight of melting a part of me. The need to save him became known than taking my revenge on these heartless creatures.
"You are going to be fine, nothing's going to happen to you..." I whispered leaning closer to his face and pressing my lips against his forehead.
My eyes closed and my mouth began chanting the spell on its own, ever so lightly I let my fingers brush on his wounds and the sound of his flesh and veins getting in their place told me that his injuries were healed.
Kaden's body shook ever so lightly as the healing took over his entire body, sealing even the smallest cuts and marks. The rays washed over his body, his skin started getting back warmth, and slowly I felt his eyes opening.
I looked at him, a smile appearing on my lips as I glanced at the surprise flicking in his eyes.
"Isabelle....." His voice was lower than a whisper, a look on his face that said he couldn't believe what he was seeing--The unseen rays, the shimmer on my skin, and the color of my eyes that had changed to the deepest shade of blue which's glimpse I got in the reflection in his eyes.
The lack of strength and movement in him was still there, the wounds were concealed so far but the damage hadn't healed it.
"Shh...." I shook my head, caressing his cheeks and trying hard to stop my tears at the profound happiness that hit me like a strong wave hitting the shore due to seeing those very dark eyes of his open again.
I had once failed to do anything for my family, destiny was against us but today was different. This was the second chance fate has blessed me with to unearth and keep the love, the happiness close to me, to defeat the odds and put an end to the story that had started years ago.
"Today is the day, Kaden...I am going to fulfill the duty I was given."
"Give this locket to someone in need, someone who can protect you and the protect the world beside you and someone you can trust."
My mum's words washed over my remembrance leaving a smile to form on my lips as I looked at him--The person who had swept my feet off the ground, saving me from the hell and blessing me with heaven I found in his arms.
I slowly moved my wings to let the view be open to Alistair and his brothers, the view of Alistair struggling to advance towards us but getting prevented by the unknown force dressed as one of the elements of nature unfolded.
I let the locket's presence appear in my hand, merging through the rays becoming visible.
Alistair's eyes went wide as he looked at the locket in my hand, the dismay swirling in his grey orbs as he speculated what I was going to do.
"No!" He shouted and was forced to push through the strong waves of winds, but his attempts did not bring any success on his side. For the first time, there was this helplessness I could see in Alistair, the panic and dismay becoming clear in his hefty movements to anyhow make it to us.
Carter, Jason, and Cassandra-- All had stunned looks plastered on their faces as if they had never witnessed something like this before.
Alistair's eyes desperately looked at the locket--The same locket he had killed my family for, the same locket he snatched so many years from my life for and kept me locked between dark dour walls, and the same locket he was going to kill my mate for.
Tonight the world was not against me, my world was in my arms...looking at me in awe as I slowly lowered my head to press a kiss on his lips.
"From now on, this belongs to you..." I smiled against his lips and moved my hands to place to make him wear the locket.
"Isabelle...No!" I heard Alistair's growl but that didn't stop me from moving further and placing the locket around his neck, sealing the bond eternities and closing the chapter of the locket forever.
