Chapter 16

Ava's POV
In fact, this is good enough.
After I sent Mike away, I silently wished this in my heart.
I feel like I'm in a very comfortable position with Blue Moon Pack right now. I'm not so influential that I'm a nail in some people's eyes to get me in trouble, but I'm also not so involved in anything. And because of some of the previous rumors, I've been relatively free to move around.
I don't want anything else to change.
Nor do I want to have much contact with Aaron.
In my current capacity, it is best to let the rumor remain a rumor forever, at least it will not hurt anyone.
Whether it's Adele who expects Blue Moon Pack to become better and better, the simple and kind Adele, or the Aaron who is destined to have no relationship with me and will only calculate and test each other, or myself.
"So you're going to give up?"
Fog asked flatly. "But this is good, anyway, this matter is not necessary to do, the struggle between wolves is always like this, with or without you have little effect."
I can no longer tell if she really wants me to give up or if she is being sarcastic on purpose.
"Seriously, Ava," she said, her voice starting to get serious. "Let's go."
"Find a time. You've cured him anyway, haven't you? Take this information now and go back to Bright Moon, you don't owe him anything. Leave the rest to time."
Before you can fully take this person into your heart, she quietly adds another sentence in her mind.
I didn't answer.
I was still a little hesitant. I don't know if it was out of guilt for Adele, or that good natured spirit, but I decided to stay a little longer to see. But I didn't expect that soon, I would regret this decision.
Reader's POV
"But if it wasn't for that one time, I wouldn't have known Alpha had a problem." Bruce said as he held the rolled cigarette in his mouth. "Normally he doesn't look this bad when he's having an attack at all."
Mike nodded his head. "I've only run into it a few times, and it's not good for everyone to know about such things. That's why I said Bertha was great, just for a while, and Alpha's condition is said to be completely stabilized."
The remaining two also nodded their heads and looked at him with conviction.
The night had fallen silent, and the three men on the post shared a cigarette roll, immersing themselves in the pleasures of excessive nicotine intake.
The wind is both mild and carries a coolness that is not present during the day, making each of them want to close their eyes.
Just when it was so comfortable, a man was about to break. He extinguished the last bit of spark in his hand, stretched his neck to make a shushing sound, and then lowered his voice.
"Have you heard?"
"What?"
The other two, who were already a little tired from their shifts, were now aroused by the curiosity.
"Alpha's Luna, that should be her if there are no surprises."
"What's so strange about that." His partner, however, was not much surprised, muttering in a small voice while crushing out his cigarette roll. "Compared to other female wolves, I'd be happy for it to be her as Luna. at least she's that strong and saves our lives."
Mike couldn't help but frown as he spoke. "But it always seemed to me that she didn't think much of Luna... who?"
He shut his mouth and quickly pulled the door open to look out, two brothers huddled behind him already holding their weapons.
But they didn't see anyone, they only heard a footstep in a hurry, as if it had gone far away.
The next day when Mike came to Alpha's study to report on last night's watch, he was surprised to find that someone was already inside.
He made an effort to get over to look and saw their Beta.
Mike quickly retracted his head.
Probably no more reports today, he slowly exited, while thinking about the sumptuous breakfast he was about to have in a few moments.
About two meters out of the study, he brushed up against a man.
The scent of the other's hair and the sound of his footsteps struck him as familiar.
He turned his head to look and it was Edna.
Strange, so early in the morning, she's coming to see Alpha again.
But that's okay. Mike remembers that Edna seemed to have been close to Aaron before Bertha came to Blue Moon Pack. There was a time when he seemed to have heard rumors about them.
But it was quickly clarified by Alpha itself.
Mike thought again that this time the gossip about Alpha had also been spread for a long time, but this time none of them came out to dispel the rumors. Ah, if Bertha's previous admission of her suitor status counts.
Edna must want to be Luna, Mike thought.
In fact Mike's guess was not wrong at all, but he left a little early. Just as he ran into Edna, Sam and Aaron were nearing the end of their conversation.
"So there isn't a wolf pack doctor named Bertha in either of the two packs nearby?"
"Yes." Sam answered him with certainty. "I guarantee it's definitely not a secret story, if such a wolf pack doctor was kicked out, there's no way we can't inquire about it at all. These two wolf packs don't even have her as a person!"
"Then could it be that the wolves Bertha was staying with don't want to acknowledge her anymore for some special reason?"
Sam's voice sounded even more agitated. "And now you're making excuses for her? It's obvious that her identity is so suspicious."
"I didn't mean it that way."
Aaron whispered. "Then keep checking. If ......"
The latter words were simply too quiet for Edna to hear. But she could now confirm one thing. That was that Bertha was not really trusted by Aaron, and Sam was even quietly investigating her.
It means she still has a chance.
"Whether she'll be Luna or not," Edna whispered to herself. "One should always try, shouldn't one?"
She flashed a smile, just like the old one, gentle and vulnerable, a smile that would make people's hearts ache when they saw it.
Ava 's POV
"One should always give it a try, shouldn't one?" I said to Fog. "And it's so hard to practice for once, I'm afraid I'll be more likely to be suspected if I don't get involved. They could all leave."
Fog was probably annoyed by my pestering, and when he heard me say that, he just grunted and stopped talking. I was left alone to slowly pack my things.
I have my shots, and my medical kit and emergency kit. Being a doctor requires professionalism.
There are also lunch boxes, which is a suitor's self-awareness, prepared in advance food and water used to prevent attentiveness when there are no props.
And then, there should be nothing left for drug preparation.
Forest training was one of the plans that had to be completed every season for the wolf pack. A wolf pack, even if the head wolf was more powerful, was useless without collective combat experience, which would doom them to failure.
So, usually a forest practice can tell how the basic strength of a wolf pack is.
I absolutely cannot pass up this opportunity.
But in no way did we expect that the Blue Moon Pack's forest practice would be done in groups!
It is not the ordinary grouping of everyone starting together and then grouping, but grouping according to strength.
Unluckily and coincidentally, the group I was in was almost entirely made up of old men and women. Oh my God, there was even a pregnant woman!
Just a few men are also some guys who are not very strong in combat.
I looked and looked before we left, and finally didn't resist grabbing Sam who happened to be passing by and asking. "Are you sure that's all I have for this little group?"
Sam stopped to look at the crowd behind me and asked me back in disbelief. "Aren't there enough people?"
"That's enough." I said helplessly. "But do you really think they can participate in practice? This pregnant woman, and this guy with the asthma spray. What if something goes wrong?"
"You're responsible if something goes wrong." Sam said dryly. "Don't underestimate any of them, they were all heroes once. It's because of your abilities that you've been put in charge of this squad."
So I should still feel honored?
After saying that he turned around and walked away very decisively without looking at us much longer.
I shook my head and turned around to look at the crowd still staring at me, once again feeling mixed emotions.
"Be sure to let me know if you feel any discomfort, okay?"
I came to the pregnant woman and explained to her very seriously. "Your safety is the most important thing. What is your name."
"Anna," she answered me with a smile, rubbing her belly.
"Okay Anna, I'll call."
"Your name is Bertha," she interrupted. "I believe you."
"We all believe in you." When I didn't move, she added.
"Okay."
I didn't know what else to say, and it seemed inappropriate to say anything else, so I finally had to nod my head.
Because of the physical strength of the people, we walked very slowly and needed to stop for breaks from time to time.
During the second break, a man sat next to me and leaned against the big tree with me.
"It's beautiful here, isn't it?" He spoke.
I nodded my head in a hurry, I remember this person.
This person has only one hand, but is trusted by Aaron, and I heard that it is a life-long friendship with Aaron.
"Aaron has taken the clan's elite to the forest for practical exercises." He looked at the distant clouds and said, then sighed.
I finally knew why he looked so despondent and comforted him by saying. "Blue Moon Pack will not forget your credit, by the way, what is your name?"
The man laughed bitterly and asked rhetorically. "You don't even know my name, so how do you know I get the credit?"
I said with a smile. "You're sitting here, but you actually want to train with Alpha too, right?"
He nodded and said. "Yes, my name is Tom, and I lost this arm to protect Alpha, and though he gave me shelter, I still want to fight alongside him, not sit here with the old and infirm of my clan and enjoy the comfort."
I nodded and said. "The Alpha thinks highly of you, and besides, even though you've lost an arm, you'll surely be able to protect the rest of the clan."
