Chapter 33 Reward

Ava's POV
After leaving the library, I left the Gentoo Wolf Pack building straight away.
I thought I should blow the wind to keep my head clear, but I didn't need to leave now.
But after as many turns in the woods my mind was still in turmoil, like a pot of boiling soup. My cheeks were hot all the time, and the fog told me it was because of my high body temperature.
Finally, after another accidental near-trip over a tree root and finding a Shakespeare in my hand in addition to the letter I had just written, I was going to forget everything that had just happened.
"So are you going back to your room now?" Misty asked me.
"No. I'm going to send this letter that I wrote." I stopped and answered her.
Although being falsely accused by Edna before was just an accident. But that incident still taught me a lesson. That is to be vigilant at all times. No matter how calm things may seem on the surface.
Now is kind of a special time. I have no interest in letting any of my leverage fall into the hands of others. Whether that is a handle or not.
But if I knew what the situation was like in the Ying Yue wolf pack right now, I would probably go back immediately. Unfortunately, I don't know.
Reader's POV
Kate was now throwing a tantrum at her Alpha Carson. Her cheeks were red and her voice was hoarse and shrill, probably because she rarely spoke at that decibel level in general.
"You said that nothing would happen to her. You gave me your word!"
"Yes, yes." This rare emotional state of hers gave her Alpha a headache.
"Nothing is really going to happen to her, okay? Trust me."
"What do you want me to believe?" Kate was angry and surprised by his calmness, "It's been almost a month since she last wrote. She hasn't even heard anything from me."
"And now the latest news I've heard is that the Blue Mountain wolves have attacked Genghis Khan. Is that what you said, nothing will happen to her?!"
Indeed, Kate was a quiet and soft person who rarely had such intense emotions. But once Ava was involved, she would become like a raging lioness, and Carson dared not continue to irritate her.
He stepped forward and put his arm around the other woman's shoulders. Trying to sound gentle and harmless: "Listen to me, Kate, listen to me. You know what your sister is capable of, don't you? You know that if she chooses to do something, she must be very sure of it. At least she'll leave herself open for a fallback."
"I'm not keeping the news from you, I'm just worried that you'll be anxious and upset by all this. That's not what I want to see, and it's not what she wants to see."
"So this is what you want to see when I'm like this now?" Kate was still agitated. "I don't care what you say, you're going to get her back, and you're going to get her back now!"
That's not going to happen! Carson subconsciously wanted to blurt out a retort, but he held back.
"Kate, listen to me." He continued patiently, "You know about her mission this time out, right? It's very important to me and to our wolves.
Her character is something you can't fail to understand, and if we act rashly, there's a good chance we'll threaten her safety."
It was. Even at this time Kate considered herself a very reasonable person.
She heard and understood everything Carson said and knew he wasn't using the sisters to accomplish his plans, as she had misunderstood.
For an undercover mission. There was nothing wrong with what he said. In case the other mission goes well and you run over there because of your own concerns, you might disrupt her plans. There was also the possibility of exposing her identity.
She also knew that if anything happened to Ava the person who was actually most worried was Carson and not her.
Kate knew this. But she still can't help but worry, "But what if her identity is really exposed? She might have been threatened by now and is waiting for our backup."
This result, which sounded like a wild guess, caused Carson's heart to shiver for a moment.
"Don't say that." His voice sounded very pale. "Nothing like that will happen." But he couldn't help but think about it anyway.
After all, the deployment and members of the Blue Moon Pack had really become a knot in the minds of the other wolf packs. They had sent out so many of them before. Intelligence agents and scouts hadn't gotten any results, and now they were relying on just one person. Would she really not be in danger?
"You know how she is, if she doesn't get one thing right, she'll never come back."
At this point Kate looked at him. Slowly, she said, "That's what I'm worried about."
Well, okay. Carson finally sighed.
"I know what you're worried about. In fact, I've been worried too. Every day since she left the pack, I've been worried. I promise you, Kate." He put his hands on his Lula's shoulders, "One more day. Just one day today, if we still don't receive any letters or news about her today. Tomorrow we'll go to the Genghis Khan wolf pack. No matter what the means, I will definitely get her back."
This promise largely alleviated Kate's mental uneasiness. Her tearful eyes looked at her Alpha. Those eyes were beautiful and touching even in tears.
Coincidentally, just at this time, the man standing guard delivered the letter. Kate's eyes snapped open. She stood up with an unimaginable speed, pushed away her lover who was hugging her without any emotion, and ran towards the door.
Taking the letter in the other's hand.
"Who is it?" She asked sharply.
"I don't know." The other man answered him. "It's not signed. It's from a pigeon."
From a pigeon. Kate was sure this was the letter her sister had written to her.
"Open it and see." That's when Carson came to her side and looked down at the envelope with her.
Although he had just been tossed aside like used up hand towels.
The envelope was plain white, indeed without any signature. And it was thin. Thinner than it had ever been.
Kate felt like her heart was about to beat out of her chest.
With trembling fingers, she opened the envelope and took the thin piece of letterhead out. On it was her familiar handwriting. But it was short, only two sentences.
"I'm fine, don't worry. Will be back soon." Just like before, the letter was addressed with a simple letter A.
"Relieved?" Carson whispered to her, "She'll be back soon. Maybe tomorrow morning you'll wake up and hear her knocking on your door outside."
That, of course, was impossible. Kate finally broke into the first smile of the day. But soon, she frowned again.
"Is there really no problem?" She again made sure to. "It's true that she wrote this letter. But she didn't write something like this because she wanted to comfort me, right? Maybe she did get into trouble?"
"No way." Carson said to her. "If she was really in trouble, she would have told me, even if she didn't tell you."
This time he got a punch. From his good Luna, but the force wasn't heavy, landing lightly on his chest.
"Don't worry." He took the piece of stationery, tucked it into an envelope and tossed it into his drawer, then took her into his arms again.
He softly reassured his partner, "Didn't you say earlier that you had an appointment with Lady Carmela for tea today? Go on. A little later she may have other arrangements. Stop worrying, I'll take care of everything."
Watching Kate's back as she left, Alpha took out the letter again, and he read over it letter by letter, while an uneasiness once again welled up in his heart.
This feeling of uneasiness had been going on for many days. In fact, he had told Kate a lie.
His worries had not started the day Ava left, but not long before.
If you want to count the time, it was about two weeks ago.
One noon two weeks ago Carson had just finished his paperwork with the intention of going out for a walk to comfort his long-empty stomach when his beta brought him a message.
"The Blue Mountain wolves have attacked the Gentoo pack?"
Carson's mouth was open in utter shock, "When did that happen?"
"Just yesterday morning." His Beta replied, then glanced at him, "Also I got new news."
"What new news." Carson asked uneasily.
"The Gentoo pack has taken on a new pack doctor named Bertha."
Carson immediately realized it was Ava.
"And?" He trailed off, "Is that all?"
"The Gentoo wolves have offered a reward of three thousand for a relative or friend of Bertha's." George said dryly, "Because Bertha was expelled from the other packs, she was taken by the Alpha of the Gentoo Pack, and will later become the Lula of the pack, and now misses her family."
He paused for a moment, "Especially, her sister."
Her sister.
Carson felt his head spin a little, "Where did this news come from?"
"From the reward list." George said desperately, "A bounty from Beta Sam of the Gentoo Wolf Pack, with a bounty on his personal account."
"Remove it." Carson rubbed his face, "Pay ten times the price to remove this bounty from the list."
Seeing that George was about to walk out of the office at his word, Carson called out to him again.
"Wait a minute."
George turned his head to look at him.
"As of today." Carson thought and said slowly, "Our surplus moon wolf pack declared an external lockdown. Anyone going out must have the permission of the guard post, and the time out must not exceed two hours, and the number of people going out cannot exceed five per day. Notify all members of Ying Yue Wolf Pack who are outside that they must return to the base before sunset today, or else they will never have to come back."
George had been completely frozen, he looked at his Alpha in complete disbelief as he continued to say.
"The guard post will be your responsibility from now on, and the list of outings will be given to me every day."
"In addition." His voice gradually lowered with a murderous tone, "Send ten detachments out on patrol every day, and once you hear Ava or Bertha's name from anyone's mouth, arrest them immediately."
"If resisted." He looked up at George and raised his finger to point at the knot of his throat.
"Just bite them through the throat."
