Chapter 36 He Loves Her
Reader's POV
What is the best way to make a person suffer?
Putting her to work on a hungry stomach for three days? Or daily flogging and torture? Or cutting off her arms and legs and throwing them into the forest?
Edna didn't think any of that counted.
These do not count for anything at all, working on a hungry stomach is not a big deal, the big deal is to pass out from hunger, as long as they are still alive, there will always be something to eat. Flogging and torture for her also has no meaning, her pursuit of life is very simple, is to live well. Since it has come down to being flogged and tortured, why not just kill yourself?
As for the last one, she had seen it before.
It was a kindred spirit who was abused to death, and she still doesn't know what mistake that person made.
"You once had loyalty to me." Deborah stroked her head like she was petting a puppy, "So I won't kill you, you can stay with me well, just like before."
Edna bowed her head, she couldn't lift it at all, she had a diamond collar around her neck, the other end of the collar was attached to a leash and was being stepped on by Deborah.
And she might not even be able to stand up after that, her kneecap was completely shattered.
"I know you've had a hard time." Deborah's voice said slowly above her head, "So I've been promising you the things you want, even though you never seem to take them seriously."
"I have also told you that when I stand higher in the future, I will definitely give you a higher position as well."
Deborah sighed, "Once upon a time you slept on the floor, and then I gave you your own room and bed. Once upon a time you had to eat leftover crumbs, then I gave you decent enough clothes so you could go to the cafeteria and eat the same as everyone else. Jewelry and money, and all the rest.
Was none of that enough to impress you to stay with me?"
She loosened her foot so that Edna could lift her head and look her in the eyes, "What made you betray me? That you would rather starve and freeze outside than come back to your master?"
Edna didn't say anything, just stared at her fiercely.
"Or are you no longer content to sleep in that little room every day?" Deb was still smiling. She looked like she didn't care at all anymore, but her tone was still so low and sad, "You want everything better, right? A bigger room and bread, nicer clothes?"
She said, bending down to caress the girl's cheek, "Look at you now, you've got it all, haven't you?"
Right?
For a few seconds Edna's whole body trembled, great shame and fear together had completely knocked her down.
"Following that man was supposed to get you everything, wasn't it?"
Deborah was still talking.
She knew all too well what the woman in front of her was thinking, so much so that there had even been a moment when she had wanted her to be her secretary or in some other capacity.
Not a maid.
Now that she thought about it, if she had actually done that then, would everything be different now?
"I've got it."
What?
Deborah didn't hear her and moved a little closer to her.
"I've got it!" Edna repeated the phrase in a frantic whisper, "I would have gotten it, the beauty, the adoration of others, the jewels and costumes, and the respect of all."
"All of these were mine, all of them were mine."
"I would have gotten it."
"Including that man." Suddenly, she looked up at Deborah and laughed; "And that man! Hahahahahahaha. Everyone knew I would be his Luna, everyone!"
Deborah's face slowly grimaced.
She was still going on, "If it wasn't for that wolf girl. If it wasn't for her. Heck, you'd never have touched a finger of mine again in your life."
"I would have deserved all of this." In this moment, confidence returned to her, glowing along with the diamonds on that collar around her neck.
"But here she is. She screwed it all up, she ruined everything! Everything! I know Aaron doesn't love me, but what does that matter? I don't need his love; I love him enough. He needed a Luna, and I was just qualified. I'm smart and considerate, and I'll be the best Luna.
But since she came to Genghis Khan, everything has changed."
"His eyes would only ever look at her."
Edna's voice had gone into a trance, "Always just looking at her like that."
"He loves her."
"Shut up!" Deborah shouted, "Shut your mouth!"
"He loves her!" Edna laughed maniacally at her, "He wouldn't love me, much less you! He loves her! He loves Bertha. And you, that's in the past."
A slap with a windy sound landed hard on her cheek, and Edna's words behind it were slapped back into her stomach by the slap. Blood trickled down her cheek as she bent down and spat out two bloody teeth.
"You're never going to get Aaron." She finished the sentence in a blur, "Even if you trade the whole Pabu wolf pack for it, it won't work."
As she passed out Edna gave a smile, the first time she had smiled in so many days.
"Bertha." She repeated the name in her mind, "I'll see how long you'll be okay."
Ava's POV
"Sister Bertha, my brother is back." Adele, since her last big cry, seemed to have completely forgotten that I was leaving, and often came to try to get me alone with his brother under the guise of a final treatment.
I don't know if Aaron had told him something in private.
But this little thought of hers I can not see? Besides, even if Aaron comes back I do not want to see him, because no matter what time he will certainly be followed by a woman.
Of course, he does not count when he does not come to me voluntarily.
I didn't want to see such a scene, but Adele's next words made it impossible for me to refuse: "But you said only yesterday that you hadn't treated my brother again for a long time, and that you should treat him twice more before you leave?"
I bowed my head and pretended not to care and said, "But didn't I already tell you all the ingredients of the medicine? And the treatment I'm talking about is only psychological treatment, the prerequisite for him to be fully healed now is to take his medication on time."
As to whether he will take the medicine on time himself, that's not my business. Psychotherapy is fine any time anyway, as long as no other people are around.
Misty mercilessly spat out, "It's not your business to be so strict at that time, you used every method to get him to take his medication, and now you say it's not your business? Hypocrisy."
Adele continued, "And his medication has run out, didn't you say you had to do another checkup before you could adjust the next dose of medication or something?"
On one side was Misty's sarcasm, and on the other side was Adele's advice. It seemed that I couldn't avoid seeing Aaron a few more times before I left here.
Originally, what I had planned was just three sessions of psychotherapy. Because it involves the possible need for hypnosis, so each time need to be spaced on a few days.
The last psychotherapy and hypnosis was quite effective. How about a trip today? Seeing how excited Adele was maybe there was no one else in the office?
I agreed: "Okay, I'll go there now."
Adele was obviously happy and held my arm the whole way.
As soon as Aaron got back, he dove into the office. It seemed he had more to do to prepare for the coronation.
It occurred to me that maybe the office might not really be empty, but I didn't expect there to be so many people, and besides Aaron and Sam, that Deborah was there.
This was the first time I met Deborah, and I have to say, she was really pretty, and no wonder she became Aaron's mate in the first place.
If she hadn't betrayed Aaron, Aaron would have liked her a lot.
I suppressed the anger and sadness that came up from nowhere in my heart and tried to keep my eyes from locking eyes with any of them.
Aaron was the same as before, his eyes sweeping past me now and then, a little surprised but seemingly a little disappointed.
It was probably because my arrival had ruined the nice atmosphere between them.
"Adele asked me to come and treat you." Aaron had been good enough to lie down on the couch and unzip his shirt. He looked up when he heard me say that, his lips slightly open, as if he wanted to say something.
I subconsciously came a little closer, and Deborah standing aside, eyes as if to spit fire look really some bad ignore. I quickly reacted to my own this seems not very polite?
Misty: "What's rude about it?"
So I pretended not to see him and took out my stethoscope: "Listen to your heartbeat."
Aaron cooperated with me while saying, "I've been taking good medication all this time, how's it going?"
I couldn't help but roll my eyes, "You can't even sleep well, how well can you be?"
Aaron probably didn't expect me to answer him so bluntly, and obviously froze for a moment, "So are you going to take care of me for a while longer?" I looked up at him, not really wanting to pay attention to him, but just moved more roughly.
Several times I saw Adele, who was standing off to the side, look away.
It seemed like Deborah on the side finally couldn't take it anymore: "There are better wolf doctors in the Pabu pack, there's no need for her to do it all. I can change one for you right now."
Adele became quick to react now and was the first to start retorting: "My brother doesn't need it! Sister Bertha takes good care of her brother and doesn't need anyone! Especially ......"
Everyone in the room knew who she was talking about this especially, and Sam couldn't hold back his dry laughter.
Deborah stood up, judging from the rise and fall of her chest, she must have been furious, usually not even allowed to touch Aaron, but under my hands were turned over and over to do the examination but not a bit of complaint.
"I'm coming over when it's over, there's something I need to talk to you about." She piled up these words and went out the door.
But not a single person in the room actually reacted. Adele held her chin up as she watched me examine Aaron, looking very attentive and engaged. Sam cocked his body and looked at the ceiling, not sure if he was asleep or not, but by the frequency of his fingertips tapping on the couch, he must have been awake.
"I'll go first." Next, Adele gently closed the door and left as if she had completed her task.
Sam also had the good sense to stand outside the door, and at this point, Aaron and I were the only two people left here.
After the examination, I straightened Aaron's sleeve and said, "You need to rest and take your medication on time, if there's nothing else, I'll leave now."
I picked up the case, just stood up Aaron finally said, "Thank you for taking care of my sister ...... and me."
I smiled bitterly and said, "You better have a perfect reason, or Adele will never forgive you."
After saying that I pushed the door and walked out, however the door was only half open and the cigar in Sam's hand at the door had only just been lit, asking me with some surprise, "So soon?"
"What else? It's not like he's a tenth-degree disabled patient who needs my bedside companionship."
Even Sam was a little disappointed as he exhaled a puff of smoke into the air, "I'm sorry."
I laughed, "What's there to be sorry about."
Reader's POV
Deborah really wouldn't let her face get in the way, and she returned to the study once more shortly after Bertha had left.
Aaron was not surprised and perfumed her earnestly, "Let's talk about anything else tomorrow, Bertha said I need to rest."
Deborah's voice, which had always been gentle, now became mocking: "Since when did you listen to the doctor so much? You know that before this, but a pill is personally supervised by others."
Aaron's veins instantly flared up and he felt like he had taken his medication for nothing: "You're investigating me?
Deborah shrugged indifferently and said, "If Genghis Khan must merge into Pabu, I have to know what they all are, and I don't want any surprises."
Aaron said, "Accidents? The only possible accident is you."
Deborah could not retort, because she was a real betrayer, so she had to say, "Then go and rest, we'll talk about tomorrow, I'll leave you alone."
After saying that, she actually really left the study, Aaron did not know what this woman's heart was playing, but this period of exertion also let him can not help but rub his brow, he looked at the arm clutching Sam standing in the doorway blushing hard: "I'll go to my room first, late.
"I will go to my room first, later you come to me directly to talk about the coronation."
