Chapter 17 Raid
Ava's POV
The moment I said this, a breeze blew right past and poured into my sleeve through my collar. I was stimulated by the coolness and cringed, while I felt the sweat hairs on my arms were standing up one by one.
I suddenly noticed that the forest seemed to be quiet. Despite the fact that there were people everywhere and everyone was casually lying on the ground, or sitting, it was still so quiet. It was like, it was like something was slowly approaching, and everyone was holding their breath and waiting quietly.
I started to look around a little uneasily.
Tom naturally sensed it, and he jerked to his feet, drawing his own belt knife.
We subconsciously close together, standing back to back.
But there was nothing, it was still a silence that could drive a person crazy. In this silence I saw that someone had noticed Tom and I's perversity and came towards us.
It was the pregnant woman with the big belly.
Don't come over!
I wanted to yell at her.
But I couldn't make a sound. Until now, I didn't know exactly what was on us, and now any movement or sound I made could be misinterpreted, leading to worse results.
"Go back." I said to her without making any sound with my lips.
She paused.
"Go back." I repeated again and shook my head gently at her.
I saw something very familiar in her eyes as she slowly backed away, one hand protecting her stomach. I knew she had come full circle.
Sure enough, she retreated to where she was standing and whispered something to the others around her, and I saw everyone stand up and gather together.
This is good, our group is generally speaking not high fighting ability, gathered together at least we can still look out for each other.
However all things will not be as easy as imagined, just like all the dangers that are bound to come will not give people the opportunity to prepare.
Just for this brief moment only, my eyes have not even completely moved away from the crowd that began to move in the distance, several black shadows fell from a high place viciously pounced on me with a clear flash of knife light.
They are armed!
I quickly half crouched a roll to avoid it, sounding like I was squeezing from my lungs. "There is an enemy attack, prepare for battle!"
This sound was like the first ray of sunshine that broke the dark clouds, and countless black shadows came running wildly from all directions, some even in wolf form.
Four or five men surrounded Tom and me, slowly closing in.
I've never seen them around, and they're not from Bright Moon Pack.
I also wonder if Tom recognizes which wolf pack they belong to.
Thinking of this, I slightly inclined my head to look at him, he is always hand holding the waist knife to stare at the person in front of him. Probably felt my gaze, he looked at me, sank his voice and said quickly. "This side to me, you go to protect the others!"
I was a little hesitant.
But it was only for a few seconds, and I knew it was best not to dwell on anything at this point.
"My pocket, right side." He said again.
I tried to make my movements look natural and casual, not making any noise, and slipped my hand into his pocket.
It's a cylindrical thing.
"Throw it in the fire."
I looked at a few people who were still staring at us communicating with each other and quickly threw the object in my hand towards the fire next to me.
I can't help but think about it every time I'm like this, and the moment I hit it I remembered a dart game I had done as a kid.
I remember I never hit any of the targets at that time.
It was like throwing in a piece of garbage. That fire didn't budge.
I kind of wonder if I touched the wrong thing in his pocket or threw it somewhere else.
Tom also seems to be very surprised, surprised to look at me, I shook my head innocently to him, and pulled out a handful of his pocket, nothing in the pocket, clean.
I couldn't help but look at the fire again.
Perhaps our movement made the people on the other side suspicious, they stopped a little hesitantly to look at us, and then also slowly turned their eyes to the fire, and then while looking, began to slowly back up. It was as if there was a cannon hidden in that fire.
I think they must have misunderstood something.
But this is a good opportunity, Tom and I looked at each other, in unison, rushed forward to plan a sneak attack. But at this time, the unmoving fire was suddenly poured on a pot of water as a "snorting" sound.
Immediately after, a large amount of smoke came out, and those four people stopped in unison. "It's a flare, do it quickly!"
Signal flares?
I turned my head in shock to look at Tom, who looked like he was finally relieved and gave me a slight nod.
"Go ahead."
"I'll protect them." I replied in a low voice and turned to run towards where the others were.
"Are you staying?"
Fog asked. "Now is a good time to get out of the Blue Moon Pack."
I didn't answer her, quickly knocking down a few werewolves that lunged at me while secretly praying that Anna and the baby in her belly weren't hurt.
Of course, I know this is a great opportunity to exit the Blue Moon Pack, but not right now.
If I leave now, I'm pretty much cutting off any hope of these remaining people being alive.
The clan's elite have gone to training, the rest are old and weak, although the flare was sent, but help is still not sure when it will come, such a situation, how can there be a chance of counterattack, waiting for them only death.
I can't do something like that.
"But do you know how many people are coming? At least twice as many as us. I also smelled gun oil."
They have guns?
My brain suddenly tensed up.
Why do they have guns?
Unlike other packs, the wolves' sharp claws and teeth and almost perverse recovery speed make us rarely rely on other weapons when fighting. Only those who really need help or like some kind of weapon will bring some defensive guys, but only things like knives and bows and arrows.
And the average werewolf doesn't like these. These tend to remind everyone of wars with other packs long, long ago, like humans.
At that time, the most used thing by human beings, is the gun.
After gaining victory there are also some wolves who will leave their guns as collectibles, rarely using them, and if they do, it must be to eradicate an enemy that must disappear.
Is there someone among us who has become a mandatory target?
"Now is not the time to talk about that." I answered her hastily and continued to run forward, raising my voice and shouting as I did so.
"Everyone gather together, women, children, and old people stand at the very inside, and men at the very outside!"
In fact, I don't even have to say much, everyone was already doing that, everyone reacted very quickly, however the enemy only reacted more quickly. There were some who still had the ability to resist, but many more had already fallen.
Who are they really after?
I tried hard to tell, but it didn't work. They went from some searching underhand at first to almost indiscriminate attacks on everyone.
"No." Fog's voice took on a shudder as she said. "No, they're picking on the weakest ones."
Older people, and children.
Children are the hope of a community, and even the elderly are desperately trying to protect them.
A cold anger and heartache rose up in me.
"Protect the child." Tom was shouting.
Everyone heard it, I heard it, everyone is doing it. But it didn't work, it still didn't work.
There are too few of us.
Even though I knocked down one enemy after another, I still couldn't stop the enemy's blades and claws, and eventually they even avoided me and went for the weakest.
It was in such a battle of blood and flesh that our team finally took shape.
Anna was right next to me with a big belly. When she snapped the man's neck, I heard her voice so low that it almost sounded like dream talk.
"Don't die, don't die."
Her hands were covered in blood, her face was in a trance and numb, and her whole body looked like it was caught in a crazy nightmare.
I looked around again, the expressions of all the people, some of the children in the middle were crying, but I only saw panic and bewilderment in their faces, not fear.
We are still desperately trying to defend. Yes, just defending, gathering back to back in a huge circle, trying not to give them a chance to get close to the center. If one fell, the other immediately filled in. An infinite circle.
I don't know how much longer I can hold on.
Another man went down beside me, and Tom filled in, pushing Anna, who was already about to fall, into the middle of the circle. I could see that one of his eyes had turned into a dark red hole.
"Will help arrive?" Someone with a choked sob asked in a low voice behind me.
"Will do." I made to pull the knife out of the chest of the person opposite me, gritting my teeth and answering in the same low voice. "Definitely will."
"Hold on a little longer, soon Aaron will be here."
I am sure that it will be him who comes.
I don't know how long it took, but another person fell down beside me, and I caught this person's body and sent it backwards when I saw Tom's face in a trance.
He looked at me with open eyes, the muscles in his cheeks bulging.
I pulled my belt knife out of his hand and stabbed it viciously at the wolf that pounced across the room and watched it hiss as it retreated.
"I'm sorry, Tom," I said in a very soft voice. "I'll protect everyone."
I just can't help you with your revenge, I'm sorry.
It seemed to be raining and I saw two drops of water fall and hit the skin on the back of my hand. When I lifted my head, I heard someone shouting in between a confusing haze.
"Help has arrived!"
As the vision cleared I saw Aaron break a man's neck, his gaze looking straight at me through the crowd.
