Something's Off

Calder’s POV

I brace myself ready for a fight, How Dare he lay his hands-on Liv.
I’m staring at Liv she doesn't look mad and she doesn't seem to be reciprocating my anger.

She then speaks" He’s my mate Calder, we all need to calm down I’ve finally found him “. With her words I feel my body relax.

I really am happy for her, not so much for me as my mum now won’t get off my back. The warriors around us also relax and begin congratulation them, I turn to Eric we exchange a few pleasantries about how packs are united now, and then it hits me the scent from the waterfall, I look around, but I can’t tell who it is coming from.

"Calder are you okay "Sigi's voice.

"Yeah, I’m good man just thought I recognized someone” My head still looking above the crowds, then I girl running towards the woods it must have been her, but I can’t chase after her no-one would understand why.

I feel Vidar getting angry he just wants to chase her to see if she’s the one. I don’t know why we are both so hung up on the wolf from the waterfall, I shrug it off we will be here a few more times before the ball maybe I’ll meet her then.

The afternoon continues surprisingly well Eric’s pack are well trained are there really is no other fighter like his beta's mate Artemis, I watched her take down all 15 of my warriors 1 at a time without even breaking a sweat it’s like she knows what move they are going to make before they do.

We break for lunch and Eric has put on a huge BBQ, as lunch is being served, I meet some more of the pack members as the join us. I see a stunning woman walking towards us her long white blond just shifting in the breeze as she gets closer, I see she looks a lot like Artemis.

"Alpha Calder this is my sister Cynthia; she is the pack doctor "Well that answers that question.

"Nice to meet you " Although facially they are similar it’s hard to get over their difference in appearance they are like the light and the dark one white, blond, one raven haired.

I make small talk with Cynthia, I’m surprised at how young she is to be the pack doctor, but I don’t ask how that has come about, she lets me know that they have another sister however she is currently feeling under the weather and can’t make today, we exchange a few more pleasantries and all in all its and okay lunch and the people of this pack are nice.

After lunch we get back to training and I find a quiet minute alone with Sigi.
"So ...what do you think? "I know Sigi will be honest with me about what he’s seen and heard.

"They’re a good group of people, I haven't felt any negativity from them at all " His words are sincere, and he continues.

"I can’t get over Artemis though Calder, I’ve never seen anything like her the way she was so fast and every move I made she knew whether it was in front of her face of behind her she put me on my ass man."
He pauses looking like he wants to say something else.

"What else Sigi?"

"you can’t take the piss if I tell you ...I swear I saw her eyes glow a bit when we were fighting, only for a second it’s like they glowed purple for just a second and then they went back to normal, I know I sound crazy right?".

I try hard to hold in the laughter keeping my voice as serious as possible "Her eyes glowed Sigi? her eyes glowed purple? what else did she proud wings and take off?"

I lost it couldn’t believe what he was saying I mean I’ve heard the rumours before but come on the cant be serious. he eventually joins in with my laughter and we sit for a while before I ask.

"What about Alpha Eric?" Eric seemed nice but I can’t shake the feeling that something is off about him, he has this whole pack, and the people are nice but why would he hide it away making no alliances it’s just odd Sigi looks up and replies.

“To be honest I can’t really get a feel for him I don’t feel like he’s being entirely honest with us, His beta Ryan however is a stand-up guy, really genuine. Every question I asked he answered it feels like he wants to work with us on this rogue problem”.

"I got that vibe to Sigi something just doesn’t sit right with me " we continue speaking back and forth for a few more minutes when we are interrupted by footsteps walking towards us.


Cynthia's POV

"Arti we should just ask him he can only say yes or no we can’t let Sel's birthday go by without her doing the run, we only need to ask for permission to run on his territory for the three of us”.
"Cynth why do I have to ask him?"

"Because you’re the oldest, also you’re the beta's mate you have a lot more chance of getting a yes than it does " I know Sel will want to run on her birthday is so important for her to complete the bond with her wolf and I know she will want us there with her she will have so many questions.

"FINE! I will ask. Are you sure you want to tell her about us the night before, I don’t want to scare her I want her to enjoy her birthday and I’m worries " I hear the concern in her voice?

"I think it’s the best option Arti, she has to know before we can’t have her losing it at the silver moon house, we risk other people finding out " I see Calder and his beta sat on the side-lines deep in conversation, I see Arti looking at them.

"Arti let’s just ask him now " I grab her arm and start heading towards them she protests a little, but she moved her feet, sometimes I feel like I’m her older sister.

We stand Infront of the pf them words failing to escape both of our lips, he really is quite a scary man I didn’t feel it when I spoke to him earlier but now, we are alone.

Finally, Arti speaks.
"Alpha Calder, I was wondering if we could steal a moment of your time?" she sounds nervous, I grab onto her hand feeling what’s he feels transfer into me.

He is staring at us and I can’t get a cage on him until he speaks and ushers us to sit flashing a little smile as he does, His beta Sigi is also just staring. We sit and Arti begins to explain about Sel turning 21 on the day of his ball and the fact that we would like to run with her and could we run on his territory. He seems relaxed about the whole thing and agrees to let us on the condition we run to a specific place he advises he will tell us the way on the day.

Arti and I thank him as we stand up to leave before we turn to walk away, I notice that Sigi is still staring at me I stare at him confused and carry-on walking.

"Arti what was up with his beta he just stared at me the whole time we were talking then”.
"I can’t say I noticed Cynth I was too busy trying to let Calder the cold stare a hole right through my soul why I asked him for a favour 5 hours after meeting him”.

"Okay good point, do you think maybe we should link Sel, she’s missed lunch and we don’t want her to miss dinner”.

"She wouldn’t have gone far and for once I didn’t want to chase her watching Dom with that girl must have hurt her, she was really starting to like him " I hear a hint of sadness in her voice.

"I’ll link her anyway on the way back to the hospital "Arti nods and we go our separate ways her towards the fighters and I head towards the pack hospital.

"Sel, are you okay you missed lunch " I get no response, so I ask again.

"Sel " this time a little bit firmer I’m getting worried.

Finally, she responds "I’m fine Cynth I snuck back into my room, but I really don’t think I can face anyone tonight I just want to be alone " I can tell she has been crying but I don’t push her.

"Okay ill bring you some dinner up later on okay?"

"Erm Cynth ... can you also bring me a hot chocolate too”.

"Sure Sel, you want those little marshmallows too?"

"of course, " She sounds a little happier and I close the link as I walk into the hospital there quite a que apparently today is one up the stranger’s day and I have quite a few broken bones to reset.

I walk up to Dot my new assistant since she was so terrible at training her father thought her talents would be suited elsewhere, and I take the stack of charts and head into my room calling the name of the first patient as I go inside.

It’s been about 2 hours of me fixing bones and checking out bruises, everyone has now gone to get ready for dinner there’s just and omega girl cleaning the rooms, I take a seat at the desk inputting all the data for the silver moon warriors when I get the feeling that I’m being watched.
I look up and take a sharp intake of breath, Sigurd is standing at the door eyes focused on me.
