Unexpected Truths

**Selene's POV**

It has been two weeks since the attack ,two weeks since I became Luna and two weeks since my feelings of guilt have consumed my every thought. Calder has been nothing but attentive to me making sure I’m okay at every opportunity and it has really helped I’ve been so determined to give something back to my new family that I’ve been throwing myself into work.

I’m on my way down to the hospital as that is where I have been spending most of my time, all of the time I have spent with Cynthia has been put to good use I’ve gotten to know so many more pack members by face all of whom have been nothing but pleasant saying a lot of kind words and weirdly enough thanks for saving their families , I try to tell them I have saved no one but it does not seem to sink in they just state that my sisters and I helped protect their own and saved their loved ones even though we didn’t know them.

If only they knew that we are the very reason their pack was in danger in the first place after every conversion that pang of guilt returns in the deepest corner of my mind. I have spoken to Arti and Cynth about how I feel and they both say they feel similar but also admitted the more they talk to people the better they feel so in times of quiet I wonder why it isn’t the same for me .

After I finish up for the day I’m heading across the grass now green again but the flashes of the red still lingering in my mind when I get to the kitchen door Calder is stood waiting for me a smile plastered across his face and I know he is up to something .

As soon as I reach him he pulls me into his embrace for a short but tender kiss not letting go as he ushers me out of the kitchen and up the stairs to our room when we step inside I a suitcase on the bed and another half packed full of my clothes beside it .

I turn to face him .
"I mean if you wanted me to move out of the room Calder you could have just asked "
Still gazing at him one of my eyebrows up in the air waiting.

*"Selene as if I would let you go anywhere . I do need you to finish packing though I tried to put a few things in . I figured we didn’t exactly get the best start to life as a married couple so I thought maybe we could do that now"*

I stare at him blankly he can’t be serious right now after all that’s been happening these past 2 weeks, he still is no closer to finding out how Arlo managed to get those rogues to follow him and we have barely even begun to fix some of the damage that was done.

"Calder you can’t be serious there is still so much to do here "
The look on his face is one that shows utter defiance , he is so serious .

*"Selene I’ve never been more serious its only for a few nights and it’s no far so you can pack you own stuff or all you can spend the entire trip naked "*
Again, he grabs me by the waist pulling me closer to him .

*"Not that I mind spending a few days with you with no clothes on "*

An hour later we are heading into the forest by foot , I’ve asked Calder multiple times where we are going exactly but he just tells me to shh and reminds me that is a surprise.

As I get closer I hear the sound of water a cool breeze hits my face , I go to take another step, but Calder stops me placing his hands over my eyes.
*"Okay Selene keep walking "*

We walk for another 10 minutes until we stop Calder pulls his hands away from my eyes .
*"Okay keep your eyes closed for just a second "*

I Can hear him fumbling around with something .

*"Okay you can open your eyes now "*
As soon as I do I’m stuck with the most beautiful sight , A small wooden cabin the front facing towards the waterfall I can’t say anything, so I look between Calder and the cabin several times before he takes my hand and ushers me inside .

It is even more beautiful inside than it is outside there’s a cute little kitchen set up a cosy looking sofa and a bedroom just off of it it’s the perfect hideaway .

"Calder this is beautiful, how did you did you find this place "

He places a hand on the back of his head a look of nervousness on his face .

*"I didn’t find it Selene , I built it. I used to come up her to get away a lot and then the last time I came here I saw a wolf on the other side of the waterfall, so I came here more often hoping to see her again and well .. I guess now I can bring her here for real. Do you like it ?"*

I can tell by the way he holding his breath that he’s nervous, but how could he be I feel the most at peace here with him than I have felt since everything happened and it’s even more special knowing that he wants to share this space with me now.

"Calder, this is amazing truly I really feel like I needed this .It’s like you knew exactly how I was feeling and what I needed "

I step in closer to him appreciating him for all he really is kind , caring , thoughtful and more importantly he’s mine. I know it must have been difficult for him to see me in such a slump and I plan on making that up to him right now.

Placing a kiss on his lips and taking his hand pulling him towards the bedroom .
*"Selene we don’t.... I mean that’s not why ...."*

I don’t let him finish I know that’s not why he bought me here but it’s what I want right now .
"Calder , the last few weeks have been tough , everything you done for me has been amazing but what I need right now "

I stare into his eyes hoping they are showing exactly what I feel .
"Not what I want right now , what I need right now is my husband "

He picks me up in one movement my legs wrapped around his waist as he carried me the rest of the way into the bedroom.


**Calder’s POV **

As I watch Selene sleep I can feel the peacefulness in her face , whatever she has been feeling the last few days I watch her chest rise and fall her soft pink lips pouting slightly as she dreams . I could watch her for the rest of my life and never get bored .

My thoughts are interrupted by Sigi who I can feel pressing me to open my mind link.
"Sigi what could be so important that it can’t wait until tomorrow ?"

*"Calder you know I wouldn’t unless it was urgent "*

"Sigi we have been friends long enough to know that’s not true . What’s up "

*"Okay you have a point, but this really is urgent . That wolf has decided to talk about an hour ago "*

"What do you mean he just suddenly changed his mind and decided to share all of the secrets with us ?"

*"Well it was weird Ryan and I were interrogating him and Arti called down the stairs to Ryan as soon she stopped talking he turned to us and told us he would tell us everything . It’s like he recognised her voice "*

"Okay so what did he say exactly ?"

*"Well he told us that the mutated wolves were injected with Arlo’s blood and that’s what made them that way it is painful and the more he injected the worse the pain got. He was obsessed with making more of himself the more lives he took the longer he found he could live. He thought that when he would eventually be king he needed an army to back that , one that no one would challenge, and this is how he was planning on doing it "*

"So, he did this to the rogues on purpose ?"

*"Yes , and that’s not all , not all of these are rogues. Some of the wolves are members from packs he has destroyed Calder , they are normal people caught in a crossfire "*

A thousand things run through my head these are normal people we have to try and help them .

"Sigi we have to help get them back to normal "

*"Calder we can’t he told us that the more they were injected the more they lost themselves the only way to end their suffering I to kill them. Even the ones he seem closer to human than to not "*

"Sigi we can’t just kill them all we have to do something to help them "

*"Calder even if we could help them what kind of life would they have they would always be between human and wolf , what pack would they belong to. I know it’s this isn’t what we had hoped but the minute Arlo injected them he ended their lives "*

"Okay "

*"What do you mean okay ? . Okay like you hear what I’m saying or okay like okay were going to kill the 30 plus we have captured "*

"I mean the latter of the two Sigi , while they are like this they still pose a threat if they are unstable and we let them back out into the world who knows what they might do. When I come back we will see to it that it done the right way "

I’m about to close the link when Sigi voice chimes in.

*"Calder that’s not it there’s something else "*

He sounds nervous like he really doesn’t want to tell me .
"Spit it out then Sigurd , I am kind of busy "

*"He’s their Father "*

"What are you talking about , who’s their father "

Then it all clicks , I stare over at Selene the moon light hitting her white streak of hair bouncing off it . She has just got over everything that’s happened and now this .

"Sigi who else knows ?"

*"Only me, Ryan and now you "*

"Inform Ryan he must tell no one else Including Artemis ,is he argues the prisoners are on our land, so he has no say . Before we do anything I want to talk to him "

*"I will tell him, but I don’t think he will disagree he was furious when he told us "*

I close the link my heart pounding in my chest , this was supposed to be the getaway that jump started our lives again as Alpha and Luna and now this .

I close my eyes and take a deep breath , she cannot know .
