Unscrambled

We lay in the arms of one another in complete bliss Calder holding my hand up admiring the ring on my finger .

"Calder I’m not going to lie I did not see my life going this way 21 getting married , Luna of a pack and having my life threatened by a deranged lunatic . Life truly is wonderful "

I giggle at my own words I really cannot believe it has come to this and tonight when the moon comes out, we find out how to end this. Either way we are going down fighting .

"*Well you’re not the only one Selene, since you’ve been here people have seen me smile. Its damaging to the image of Calder the cold you know *"

"You know people call you that ? "

"*Of course, I know , I’ve got great hearing remembe*r !"

I chuckle at his eye rolling he really is a lot softer than people realize, propping myself up to get out of bed and shower as much as this bubble were in is lovely, we have work to do today.

"*Wait no! where are you going* "

I’m tugged back into bed by Calder flipped to face him.

"*I’m not ready for you to leave the bed Selene* " His words followed by a pout.

Clearly thinking I won’t be able to resist him.

"Well I am ready to leave the bed " I kiss him softly on the lips .

"But I am ready to shower " I kiss him again making his hands relax away from me and I pull away as soon as he does heading towards the shower.

Closing the door and locking it quickly ,I hear him hit it on the other side .

"*Hey, no fair Selene , if you let me in, I can help you you know *"

" Help me shower ? I think I’m okay I’ve been doing it along time "

I walk away from the door and head to the shower turning it waiting while the room fills up with steam, I let the warm water rush over me getting lost on the sound and feel of the water .

What I didn’t hear however was the sound of the lock un-clicking until a I feel a set of hands pull my hips backwards my back hitting a solid chest the arousal evident as presses his body against mine.

Calder leans down into my neck kissing me and then he softly whispers .

"*I can think of a few fun things to do in the shower you know* "

The hairs on my neck stand on end the heat coming off my body evident , I’m pretty sure he’s won this round with that we fall back into the bubble .

The rest of the day went by in a blur after Calder and I finally left the room we were stopped multiple times by pack members saying congratulations and admiring the ring there were a few glances from some ladies who I assume had hoped they would be Calder's mate .

The biggest shock was Revna, we went to find my sister and Freya and she was there helping decorating she walked right up to us both with a sickly-sweet smile and said congratulations hugging us both one at a time .

After that Calder was dismissed and I was pulled into a room to try on a million dresses all of them lines up on racking my sisters and Freya eyes lit wide with each one I try on .

"Where did you get all of these dresses in such short notice ?"

Freya steps forward and starts smoothing down the bottom of the dress .

"*Never mind where we got all these, we just need to find one for your special day ,what about this one* ?"


I stare at myself in the mirror this dress was not the one like all the ones I had tried before it was beautiful, but it just was not me. I turn to face the room a pang of sadness growing from inside my chest . Maybe this was too soon , maybe I’m making a mistake .

"Artemis. None of these feels right I don’t think that any of these are right for me . All of these dresses are beautiful, but they are all so Magazine like .I’m sorry I think I need to go "

I turn back around to get changed when Arti pulls me around and into a tight hug

"*Sel if this is not right for you that’s fine . What do you want to wear* “?

As soon as she says that I know exactly what I want to put on wear the perfect thing .

"Arti , I know what I want to wear I want mums dress she wore when married dad , I know its back at our old house and it’s not safe there, but that style is what I want . Will you help me to find one like it ?"

"*Selene , if I could go back to the house and get it for you I would but don’t worry Cynth and I will find you the perfect dress* "

Cynthia joins in the hug and I’m surrounded by such warmth I know they will find me the perfect thing to wear .

"*Oh, you three girls are just lovely* "

We break from our hug and Freya is stood tears in her eyes staring at us .

"*You are all so amazing the bond you all have and after everything you’ve been though I’m so happy to be able to welcome you into our family* "

We all smile, and I eventually take the dress off opting not to try any more on Arti and Freya are deep in conversation about where they are going to find the dress and Cynthia is talking to Sigi who apparently missed her so much he felt sick .

I use the opportunity to sneak away , its 4.30 in the afternoon I’m overwhelmed and hungry and I want some alone to time just to process this I head down to the kitchen avoiding as many people as I can Sibyl helps me Gather enough snacks for a few hours and I head back up to Calder's family library .

I open the double doors to the decking and find a chair inside letting the breeze flow through the room putting the snacks on the seat next to me .I pull out the book I found here last time and the pages that go along with it .

This supposed to tell us how to kill Arlo and we don’t even know what most of the symbols mean , I search the section of Calder library with languages there is Egyptian hieroglyphs, Runic alphabet a book on Latin and another on Canadian aboriginal syllabics.

At this point I will try anything I flip open the first book and try to match the markings on the page to those in the book it’s a no Egypt front and a no on the Latin after a solid 2 hours of looking.

I’m about halfway through my snacks the flask of tea I bought up is almost empty when the door to the library opens, I’m at the very far end and whoever just came in has not noticed my presents in the room with them . I carefully shut the book and slide it under the pillow next to me .

I can see the back of the person in the room over in the far corner they came in and went directly to that shelf , they fumble around with some of the stuff on the shelf for a few minutes and then leave .

The scent is a bit familiar but it’s not strong at I head over to where they were just stood there's a few books that aren't on the shelf anymore none of which have titles that scream out to me as to why they would search them I flip open the pages and one of the insides of the books has been hollowed out whatever was in there is no longer in there anymore I take that book over to where I was sat making a mental note to let Calder know about it.

After a quick tea break, I dive back into the books next is the book on the Runic alphabet about halfway through when I spot a page titled Anglo Saxon Futhark and there, they are all the symbols from the book all of them . Old Norse/English is not where I thought I would make a connection, but I’ll go with it .

I spend the next hour scrolling through the pages matching them up I’m completely lost in them none of it making much sense, yet I’m pulled from the vortex by a hand on my shoulder.

Out if instinct I pull the hand and flip whoever it is over my shoulder my eyes glowing and I let out a short growl , that is until I notice the person on the floor is Calder.

"Oh, shit Calder I’m so sorry! I was lost in the books and then you made me jump and I thought you were the person from earlier come back "

I pull him back up off the floor inspecting him for any damage . He rubs the back of his neck .

"*That was quite an impressive display* "

His eyes scan over the papers now scrawled all over the floor .

"*Selene what are you doing *?"

My eyes dart to the floor at the mess I was going to clean it up but instead I just blurt out all the information I just found out and then I tell him about the person who came in and the cut out book it all just comes out at him like projectile word vomit, and I say it without taking a breath.

When I’m finished, he grabs hold of my hand pulls me down onto the seat and giggles the feel of his hands on mine making me shiver memories of this morning flooding back through my mind .

"*Were getting married tomorrow , there are a thousand things you could be doing to prepare and you’re doing this. Also ill look into who came in here only my family or a few people close to me can come in here* "

I pull my hand away from his.

"What of it ? this is important to me. I mean not that tomorrow isn’t important to me but were supposed to start our lives together so I’d like to know that we might have a future and tonight we find out how to win but I don’t know if we will win and I.."

He stops me from talking by kissing me he then pulls away softly .

"*Sometimes you talk too much and forget to breath. And we are running late the moon is out let’s go and see what the invisible words have to say*"

His words are somewhat sarcastic, but he scoops up all the paperwork and leads me downstairs to meet the others .
