Chapter 10 What a Small World!

After saying all of this, I couldn't help but doze off. The lingering effects of alcohol made my head feel fuzzy.

I thought Charlie would let me sleep in the car, but to my surprise, when I woke up the next day, I was back in my own bed.

This was the second time he had carried me back to my room to sleep. This trend was getting out of hand.

My head was throbbing, and I got up to take a shower and change clothes. After that, I felt a bit more comfortable, but my stomach growled with hunger.

Thinking that Charlie wasn't home, I didn't bother wearing any underwear. I went downstairs in a lightweight, breathable silk nightgown, intending to make something to eat.

Halfway down the stairs, I saw two or three people sitting on the couch, all looking up at me in unison.

Charlie was among them, holding a few playing cards, and his face turned sour the instant he saw how I was dressed.

"No disrespect!" Clint pressed down another man's head with force.

I hurriedly ran upstairs in a panic to change my clothes, cursing Charlie in my mind countless times. Was he on the wrong medication or possessed by a ghost, always being at home every few days?

When I came back downstairs after changing my clothes, the three of them had stopped playing cards and were engaged in a conversation.

I knew a few of Charlie's friends, just not very well.

Clint, Dylan, and Michael.

All of them came from wealthy backgrounds, with Dylan being slightly different as he chose to pursue a career in medicine instead of working for his family's company.

They all knew Charlie didn't like me. They never saw me as Charlie's wife.

In the past, they even helped Charlie pursue Lauren, except for Dylan.

The three of them watched as I walked down and made my way to the kitchen without saying a word.

I nonchalantly cooked myself a plate of fried steak.

"Let's go," Charlie stood up and said to the others.

Clint and Michael nodded and followed Charlie out. Soon enough, the sound of an engine came from outside. I continued eating my meal, unaffected by their departure.

After finishing breakfast, I quickly put on some makeup and headed to the hospital.

Today, I mainly went for a check-up and to see Jason.

Upon arriving at the hospital, I registered and went through the examination process, mainly focusing on a breast examination. Luckily, there weren't any major issues, just simple lobular hyperplasia.

I carefully kept the results of the examination and prepared to visit Jason.

"Dylan, are you free to have dinner now that you're off work?" As soon as I entered the ward, I heard a sweet voice of a young nurse.

Dylan, dressed in a white coat, had a refined and slender figure, with a face that exuded restraint. He was quite unique in Charlie's circle.

The wealthy elites in that circle were all skilled at indulging in worldly pleasures, while Dylan had dedicated himself to the medical field. He usually only went out for drinks and games with Charlie and seldom flirted with any women.

Wasn't he the one who was completely infatuated with Lauren later on? I brushed past that thought and came to Jason's room, only to find Lauren there again.

"Jason, your boyfriend just has a minor skin injury on his leg, not a broken hand. He can eat on his own," said Jason, munching on the apple Lauren fed him while speaking.

Lauren's laughter was crisp and tender. "What's wrong? I treat you so well, and you still don't appreciate it?"

"I appreciate it so much. You're the best to me!" Jason smiled radiantly, his eyes full of admiration for the beautiful girl by his bedside.

I deliberately coughed once.

Jason was surprised. "Mrs. Harrison, why are you here again?"

Lauren quickly got up and gave me her seat. "Mrs. Harrison, please sit."

Lauren's flawless oval face looked even more beautiful up close. Suddenly, I was reminded of Dylan, who had just left. I grabbed Lauren's hand and pulled her out of the hospital room.

"Mrs. Harrison, what's wrong?" Lauren was startled and followed me quickly down the corridor.

How could Dylan disappear so quickly? I felt a bit disappointed. In my previous life, Charlie met Lauren first, and then Dylan got to know her through Charlie.

What if Dylan had met Lauren first? Would it be different? Would he have fallen in love with Lauren at first sight like Charlie did?

I sighed and then gave Lauren a faint smile. "It's nothing. I was actually planning to introduce you to a doctor with good skills. If Jason needs his stitches removed in the future, he can go to him."

"You are too kind. Actually, Jason's injury isn't serious," Lauren smiled awkwardly. "He's used to these minor injuries from playing basketball before."

I nodded, but in my heart, I was thinking that I must bring Lauren in front of Dylan next time.

With Lauren as Jason's official girlfriend, I didn't have much chance to chat with him. I stayed for a few minutes and then left.

On the way back, I went to the pharmacy again and bought a batch of nourishing herbal soups.

"Tim, have you found the housekeeper?" After getting back in the car, I called Tim.

"Madam, I am on my way with them to your house," Tim answered.

"Okay."

Half an hour later, I returned to Maple Villa. Tim was faster than me, and the housekeepers were already in place, busy with their tasks. I was pleased with Tim's arrangements.

Seeing me return, Tim introduced me to the housekeepers, and they respectfully greeted me with slight bows, "Madam."

I nodded and handed the herbal soups to the cleanest-looking housekeeper. "Please bring the decoction to me once it's ready."

With that, I entered the house to rest.

After a while, the housekeeper came to me with the prepared herbal soup and politely said, "Madam, the soup is ready."

I looked at the dark-colored medicine on the table, then at the graceful face of the housekeeper. I kindly asked, "What's your name, ma'am?"

"Madam, I'm Elizabeth. My last name is Everett," Elizabeth quickly replied.

"Alright, thank you!" I gave what I believed to be my sweetest smile and waved my hand. "You can go back to your work now."

Elizabeth nodded and left. My gaze fell on her figure as she walked away. Whether it was her appearance or her figure, this Elizabeth resembled Lauren in many ways.

I suddenly feel like this world is truly amazing, like a collapsing row of dominoes.

I sent a message to Tim asking him to send me the profiles of the domestic helpers, but I particularly focused on Elizabeth's profile. The emergency contact person listed there is usually a partner.

When I saw the names in the emergency contact section, I couldn't help but smirk.

Elizabeth, Issac, these two names are quite familiar to me. I didn't find much when I investigated Lauren in my previous life, but I did find her parents' names.
