Chapter 50 She Found Out

The new job felt refreshing, especially when I could face Charlie all day. I was curious about his motivation for assigning me to this position.

Until my mother-in-law sent me a message asking, "Rosalie, did Charlie arrange your job? What position is it? Can you see him every day?"

Seeing these three consecutive questions, I knew the reason. It must be the pressure from my in-laws.

I knew it! Why would Charlie want to bother himself?

I replied, "Mom, I'm currently working as Charlie's personal secretary in the CEO's office."

My mother-in-law replied with a thumbs-up emoji.

When it was time to leave work, I packed up my things and looked up Lauren's number to ask her for an address. I could go now.

Charlie didn't plan on leaving yet. "I'm going to work overtime. You can go home first."

"Okay." I quickly left, praying I wouldn't be asked to work overtime.

Lauren quickly replied with the location: Meeting Cafe.

I drove straight there and soon arrived at the destination. To my surprise, Lauren was already there, wearing a white cardigan over a coffee-colored knitted camisole. Her delicate and slender neck and collarbone were exposed, and her black hair cascaded down her shoulders, exuding an innocent charm.

Resting her cheek on her hand, her collagen-rich face with round, dark eyes gazed thoughtfully out the floor-to-ceiling window.

“She's so beautiful!” I couldn't help but exclaim inwardly. As time went on, I increasingly felt that she was quite compatible with Charlie, at least in terms of appearance.

"Mrs. Harrison!" When she saw me, Lauren snapped out of her thoughts and waved at me with a smile.

I walked over, adjusted my black coat, and sat across from her.

"Lauren, what brings you here all of a sudden?"

Lauren took out her phone and blushed a little as she said, "Mrs. Harrison, I added you on Whatsapp. I'm repaying the two thousand dollars I owe you."

I was surprised. "Didn't Jason already repay it for you? You don't know?"

Lauren was also extremely surprised and shook her head. "I didn't know. We... broke up."

After saying that, her eyes reddened slightly, but she quickly regained her composure, forced a smile, and said, "Mrs. Harrison, I'll repay you. Could you help me return it to him?"

I opened my phone for her to add me and then asked, "What happened? You two had such a good relationship. Why did you break up?"

Lauren lowered her head and didn't answer me. Soon after, my phone chimed, and it was a transfer of two thousand dollars from her.

After completing the transaction, Lauren stood up and said to me, "Mrs. Harrison, thank you. I'll go back to school now."

It seemed as if she only approached me to repay the money. I watched her figure disappear outside the café's door and let out a sigh. I also stood up and left, but I realized that I had left my car keys inside and had to go back in.

Just as I pushed the door open, two girls who were working behind the counter had their backs turned to the entrance while gossiping.

"I can't believe Lauren is so close to her. They even went out for a chat?"

"That older sister used to come to our café often for coffee. They were close!"

"Do you think Lauren finds her husband attractive, so she wants to get close? Hahaha..."

"Lauren is not that kind of person!"

"She didn't like the photo you posted, but she definitely saw it."

I caught a crucial piece of information. Lauren saw my husband?

I walked in and saw the two girls quickly stopping their gossip as they noticed me, acting as if nothing was happening. I left as if nothing had occurred.

Back in the car, I organized the conversations I had just overheard. Charlie and I once had coffee at this café, and it's very possible that one of those two girls took a photo and posted it on Twitter.

Lauren had also worked here, and she definitely had friends, so it's natural that she saw the photo and found out about Charlie's relationship with me.

So when she was talking to me just now, she was well aware that I was Charlie's wife.

A subtle feeling grew in my heart. Lauren knew I was Charlie's wife, and yet Charlie was pursuing her. Why did she pretend not to know?

Did she tell Charlie about this? I guess she didn't, otherwise, Charlie would have warned me and told me to stay away.

She surely didn't tell Jason either, considering that Jason and I know each other.

She also wouldn't know that I had known about Charlie pursuing her for a long time now.

It's a classic scenario where the third party acts as if the main characters are clueless and arranges a meeting to chat as if nothing is wrong, while secretly observing and probing.

My mind was a bit scattered, and without realizing it, I dialed Dylan's number.

"Hey, are you free?"

"What for?" Dylan asked coldly.

"Just to talk about my illness!" I blurted out.

There was a few seconds of silence from the other end. "Where?"

I pondered for a moment. "I haven't had dinner yet, and I feel like having tomato meat sauce spaghetti, grilled steak, and a cheese salad..."

Before I could finish, Dylan hung up on me. I was about to call back when he sent me a location, Highsky Diner. It wasn't a five-star hotel or anything, but the food there was excellent. I had been there several times with my father.

I immediately rushed to Highsky Diner and found Dylan in one of the beautifully decorated private rooms. His hair was slightly damp, emitting a faint fragrance, as if he had just washed it and not dried it completely.

"Order," he said as soon as I sat down, tossing the menu in front of me, causing a gust of wind that blew my hair all over the place.

"Just order whatever you like. Why are you being so polite?" I said as I flipped through the menu.

"There's nothing I want to eat," Dylan replied.

As a doctor, he wasn't interested in outside food at all. I praised him, "You really know how to take care of your health. You'll definitely live for one hundred years."

Dylan remained indifferent to my compliment and even said, "With your malnutrition, even reaching forty would be a mercy from God."

I was speechless. He truly was a melodious speaker.

After ordering, I couldn't wait to tell Dylan about Lauren's situation. After listening, he asked, "So now she knows your identity but pretends not to, and she doesn't know that you already know?"

"Yes, it seems Charlie is a bit clueless. He doesn't know that I know Lauren, nor does he know that Lauren has recognized me," I sighed.

"She must have developed feelings for Charlie as well, otherwise she wouldn't have broken up with that Jason and met you despite knowing your true identity." Dylan looked at me. "Now that she knows, what are you planning to do?"

I rolled my eyes. "I don't care. If she doesn't tell Charlie, then I won't either. Let's see who can hold out longer."

Lauren's actions made me doubt if she really was as innocent and naive as I had imagined. We considered ourselves friends, and I had witnessed the relationship between her and Jason.

If she was truly a pure girl, she would have approached me honestly and told me that she wouldn't see Charlie anymore. She should have sincerely apologized to me.

But she didn't do any of that. Instead, she casually asked to meet me and informed me of her breakup with Jason.
