Chapter 47 Scum

Charlie considered for a moment and then gave me a response. "I'll think about it."

It was better than an outright refusal, so I nodded. "Okay."

After finishing our coffee, Charlie suggested that we take my car to go back, as his had already left. Naturally, I had no objections.

What surprised me was that we actually chatted for a while on the way, mostly revolving around what I had done for him in the past. I self-deprecatingly made it all sound light, and Charlie didn't ignore me like before.

When we arrived at the entrance of Maple Villa, I sighed. "I never expected our relationship to have a day of reconciliation."

"Anything is possible in life," Charlie replied casually.

Sure enough, even I had been reborn!

The servants, seeing Charlie and me return together, looked at us with surprise and curiosity. I instructed Elizabeth to prepare lunch and then lay down in the living room, contemplating Yolanda's situation.

Should I tell Yolanda? I was torn inside. After my gaze fell on Charlie, I hesitated for a moment before asking, "Charlie, can I ask you a question?"

"Go ahead," Charlie said, still flipping through a financial magazine in front of me without lifting his head.

"It’s just a hypothetical question. Suppose you love me very much and we have a great relationship, but we're not married yet. One day I discover that you've cheated on me while I'm pregnant. Do you think if I forgive you, you will feel guilty and change for the sake of our child?" I asked.

I couldn't say "a friend of mine" because Yolanda was truly my friend, and it would be too easily guessed. Only if it were about me would Charlie not think too much, considering that in the past I often posed silly questions to him, and he never bothered to respond. I never got tired of it.

Charlie frowned, his tone serious. "Are you pregnant?"

I was shocked. What kind of thought was this? He couldn't possibly be taking it seriously, right? I quickly explained, "No, I just watched a drama with that plot, and it made a deep impression on me. I want to know what men really think about it."

"Have you been taking birth control pills?" Charlie ignored my question and instead continued to probe.

We had only been intimate twice, and each time we didn't use any protection. Maybe neither he nor I had ever considered that something like this could happen, so we didn't have any contraception at home.

I replied, "Don't worry, I have been, and if you calculate the timing, you should know that it's not possible for me to get pregnant so soon."

"Oh," Charlie finally relaxed his expression and answered my question, "I wouldn't change. If I truly loved that woman, I wouldn't have cheated in the first place."

My heart sank instantly.

The thought of the harm caused to Yolanda by the miscarriage, as well as the pain brought by Arthur's betrayal, deeply saddened me.

I had to find a way to tell Yolanda about this matter, and I couldn't delay it any longer. The further the pregnancy progressed, the riskier the surgery would become.

I called Jane and Tina and asked them to come over to my place directly. Both of them agreed to come for dinner that evening.

At that moment, Charlie's phone also started ringing. From his expression, it was evident that the caller was likely Lauren.

"Okay, I'll be right there." Indeed, as soon as he answered the call, Charlie's tone softened immediately. I didn't know what Lauren said, but he hurriedly got up and prepared to leave.

"Charlie, aren't you eating lunch at home?" I called out to him, asking.

"I have something to take care of." Charlie changed his shoes and left without turning back.

I was taken aback for a moment, then let out a bitter smile. I had only brought it upon myself, why did I bother keeping him around? But I still felt a little disappointed. Losing time and time again, it hurt no matter who it was.

After finishing lunch, I went upstairs to rest alone. I slept until it was dark outside and woke up to find Jane and Tina already waiting for me in the living room.

"Rose, how can you sleep so much? Have you turned into a pig?" Jane teased me while eating fruit.

"Can a pig be this skinny?" I yawned and replied with a smile, then went over and sat down as well.

Tina asked with some confusion, "Why didn't you invite Yolanda over today?"

I sighed, "I called you both here to talk about Yolanda's situation, let me show you something!"

I found the photos and video on my phone of Arthur being affectionate with another woman and showed it to Jane and Tina. After watching it, Jane rolled up her sleeves, stood up, and rushed to the kitchen, saying, "Where's the knife? I'm going to kill that scum right now!"

Tina's face turned pale with anger, and she started cursing, "Bastard! How dare that bastard cheat? With his standards, Yolanda is practically doing charity!"

"Please calm down, our top priority now is not to seek revenge on Arthur." I quickly stopped Jane.

"What else is more important? Should we kill him?" Jane actually found a knife, and her demeanor could be mistaken for that of a terrorist walking on the street.

I took a deep breath and said, "Yolanda... is pregnant."

The knife fell to the ground, and Jane was dumbfounded.

Three minutes later, the three of us sat back on the couch, discussing what to do next. Pregnancy is a big deal. We were afraid that Yolanda would endure it for the sake of the child, yet we also feared that she would break up rationally. An abortion would cause significant harm to her body.

We were trapped between a rock and a hard place!

"We can't delay it. It's better to face the pain now than drag it out, as it will only cause her more harm!" Tina said with a serious expression.

"Yes, it's better to tell her sooner. Even if she's in love and doesn't recognize us as her friends, I can't stand idly by and let her be deceived. If we don't tell her, and she finds out the truth after the child is born, she will blame us," Jane also added her opinion.

I agree with Tina's viewpoint.

Actually, I think the same way, but I wanted Jane and Tina to convince Yolanda together.

Suddenly, Jane's face turned even uglier, hesitatingly continuing, "Even if Arthur didn't cheat, I wouldn't recommend Yolanda to be with him. Remember the day of their engagement when I left before you guys? I bumped into Arthur's parents downstairs at the hotel, and the things they said were just disgusting!"

"What did they say?" I asked.

"They said their son is amazing, successful, found a wealthy beauty, and they didn't even want to give a dowry. They just thought about getting a larger bride price in the future, so they endured it. They also said Yolanda's biggest flaw is having a younger brother, as most of the family inheritance will surely go to him, otherwise, it could have been Arthur's." While saying this, Jane's teeth clenched tightly.

I was furious too. Arthur himself cheated, and his parents were also a couple of bastards. Poor Yolanda, who's so sincere, always praised Arthur in front of us.

If I hadn't been reborn and hadn't met Jason, I wouldn't have gone to the bar that day and discovered his ugly face behind the hypocritical mask. In my previous life, Yolanda would have had a terrible life with him after my death!
