Chapter 08 You Can Contact Me
"There's no need for that. Jason's leg will definitely leave a scar. He deserves the compensation. You guys talk, I have something to do, so I'll leave." After I finished saying these words, I turned and walked away.
The carefree time for the young couple was limited, perhaps just another two weeks. After that, Charlie will assertively appear, and Lauren will become his prey. Jason will never have the chance to chat and laugh with Lauren so happily again.
Now that I think about it, Charlie is truly a beast.
After leaving the hospital, I instructed Tim to go back to Maple Villa, the villa where Charlie and I lived. The medicine I bought was there. I had to boil it first before consuming. I wanted to get it so I could cook it at home. With my mom's invincible cooking skills, it would be easy to gain ten pounds a month.
The medicine package was still sitting in the living room, without any signs of tampering. I don't know if Charlie came home last night or what result he reached with Ava.
"Why didn't you get off the car yesterday?" Just as I was about to leave, Charlie's figure appeared on the stairs. He looked down at me with a displeased expression in his eyes.
"Why is he at home again?" I thought. Normally, he only shows up once every three months.
Charlie was dressed in all-black casual wear, so simple yet extremely charming with his face and physique.
"I've never interfered with your rumors. I didn't want to break the tradition," I calmly replied.
"Is that so? Then one by one, their resources were cut off, and scandals spread everywhere. Are those all coincidences?" Charlie looked at me expressionlessly.
So he knew everything I did, but he never stopped me because those women were just one-night stands, nothing serious. Unlike Lauren later on, even if I simply wanted to meet her and have a chat, Charlie would become a raging lion, wishing to tear me apart.
I didn't deny it. "You gave them a lot of money and resources, which are also our marital assets. It's normal for me to reclaim some in a different way."
"Then why didn't you confront Ava last night? I gave her a house, and half of it belongs to you." Charlie came down and stood in front of me. Did Charlie go mad? I frowned and thought, "Why is he still bothering with me now?"
In less than a year, he will probably ask for a divorce and give me an endless supply of wealth. Why should I care about just a house?
"I've figured it out. She's not the first and won't be the last. I can't deal with all of them." I hurriedly said these few sentences and left. If I had known, I would have let Tim come in and get the medicine package.
It wasn't until I walked out of the house that I felt Charlie's cold gaze disappear.
I took the medicine, threw my bag onto the back seat, and told Tim to leave.
When I returned to the Harrison family, I handed the medicine bag to the household servant. My mom was cooking; it was one of her hobbies.
My dad's car also arrived. As soon as he entered the house and saw me, he stared at me and handed me his phone, saying, "Take a look at this. What's going on?"
I took his phone and saw that the headline read, "#Top actress Ava spotted entering and leaving a hotel with the CEO of the Bennett Group, denies relationship between the two."
Of course, it wasn't a romantic relationship. The star was just a mistress.
I handed the phone back to my dad and comforted him, "Dad, it's all fake. You also know Charlie is a businessman. Sometimes he has to put on a show."
"So you're speaking up for him now!" My dad was extremely angry.
How could I be speaking up for Charlie? I just didn't want my dad to get upset. It's not worth it.
"Then go give him a good scolding now!" I rolled up my sleeves. "I'll help you. Let's give him a beating together!"
My dad, who had a stern face, suddenly smiled brightly after I said that. "I knew you would say something unreliable. Dark humor, huh?"
I hugged my father's arm and explained to him, "Dad, don't get angry. Think about how the Bennett Group has boosted the economy of New York. Doesn't that brighten your mood?"
"You have a point. Not long ago, Charlie also donated new synthetic tracks to several schools, showing concern for the people and giving back to society." My dad suddenly remembered Charlie's good side.
"That's right," I agreed.
As we chatted, my mom finished preparing the food and called us to eat. She cooked my favorite dishes for me; indeed, there's nothing better than a mother's cooking.
We had a warm lunch, but my dad had to rush back to work, so in the afternoon, it was just my mom and me.
My mom's friends came to play cards with her. Four women sat around a table, chatting and playing cards. I, on the other hand, lay on the couch and opened the news about Charlie and Ava.
Ava explained that she and Charlie were just friends. Recently, Charlie was preparing to invest in a film and wanted her to be the leading actress, so they had been in frequent contact mainly to discuss filming matters.
It seemed that Charlie had gained some capital again. He was indeed generous in this regard, and it was the simplest and most effective way.
Unknowingly, I fell asleep on the couch until Jane's phone call woke me up.
I looked at the time, and without thinking, I knew it was another invitation to explore the bar at night.
"Rose, come drink with us. There are handsome guys!" Jane exclaimed happily on the phone.
"How handsome?" I asked.
"Well, they're as handsome as Hollywood stars! Hurry up , Tina is already here. Yolanda had a small performance out of town these past few days, so she can't make it," Jane exaggeratedly described it.
Ever since they found out about my divorce from Charlie, these girls took turns inviting me out, either for meals or to sing, or for shopping. They never let me have a moment of peace.
I knew they were afraid that I would appear calm on the surface, but my heart would be in turmoil.
Indeed, I felt sad and upset inside and wanted to divert my attention.
I really needed this help, otherwise, I couldn't help but think about the past life.
"I'll change clothes and come right over." I hung up the phone, and Jane had already sent me the address.
Half an hour later, I set off in high spirits, ready for the nightlife to begin.
Jane had practically been to all the bars and nightclubs, big and small, in New York, so she knew which ones had the best drinks and the most attractive guys.
I have to say, the few handsome guys Jane brought along this time were quite impressive, somewhat resembling young celebrities.
I drank a little too much and suddenly couldn't hold it in anymore.
What a waste!
Upon seeing a group of handsome guys, I secretly compared them with Charlie in my heart, and there was no other interaction besides drinking.
Charlie was still more handsome, both in appearance and temperament, far superior.
"Excuse me, I'll go to the restroom." I got up and headed toward the restroom, and immediately, a handsome guy sitting next to me followed behind and reached out to support me.
I didn't refuse and enjoyed being taken care of by someone gently and considerately.
After I arrived at the restroom, I vomited violently, then rinsed my mouth and washed my face before coming out. The handsome guy was still waiting for me and asked, "Can I add you on Whatsapp?"
"Why do you want to add me on Whatsapp?" I intentionally asked.
"To stay in touch," he responded directly. "If you feel lonely, you can find me anytime."
