Chapter 64 Three Divorce Agreements
Jason looked at me, his eyes filled with complexity, before finally nodding. "Thank you."
I believe Lauren's departure also made him understand something. If there is a shortcut in life, why must we insist on taking the muddy road?
"I'm leaving now." After sitting for a moment, Jason stood up, holding the cat in his arms, and bid me farewell. "Goodbye."
"Okay, let me walk you out." I also stood up and followed him.
Jason shook his head repeatedly. "It's fine. I'll call a taxi outside. It's too cold and slippery to drive. It's better for you to stay at home."
I didn't insist. After watching Jason leave, I hugged Bubu tightly, showering him with kisses, before taking him upstairs to practice the piano.
Bubu was far better behaved than Charlie, quietly listening to my music without any complaints about the noise.
The snow outside grew heavier and heavier. After playing a few songs, I carried Bubu to the windowsill to watch the snow. As the sky darkened, the lights in the mansion lit up, casting a cold glow on the snowy ground.
Suddenly, a servant appeared downstairs, rushing to open the iron gate. Charlie's car pulled up outside, and he got out, impatiently slamming the car door before striding towards the house.
I widened my eyes, and a sentence echoed loudly in my mind. It was the same sentence Charlie said, "You fuck, just you wait for me."
Could he have really come all the way back to settle the score with me? My heart started to panic. In my past life, I desperately wanted him to come home and argue with me. I counted my sacrifices, hoping to awaken his guilt and make him stay with me.
But now, I wasn't good at erupting into quarrels with him.
"Where is Rosalie?" I had just come out of the music room when I heard Charlie's voice coming from downstairs. I peeked over the corridor and saw Charlie looking up at me.
So, I quickly went downstairs and ran towards the master bedroom on the second floor, while Charlie rushed upstairs to intercept me.
With his tall stature and long legs, he reached me in just a few steps. By the time I opened the door, he had already grabbed my hand.
"Why did you come back?" I had no choice but to pretend to be calm and ask.
"Did I interrupt your good time?" Charlie's bad mood was clearly visible. His originally distant eyes now contained anger.
I didn't want the servants to hear our argument, so I lowered my voice. "Let's discuss this in the room."
Charlie pushed open the door and pulled me inside.
After stabilizing myself, I sat down on the bed and then twisted my hand, feeling the pain from his grip, as I looked up at him.
He paced in front of me, finally stopping and asking, "Rosalie, what exactly do you want to do?"
"Shouldn't that be my question to you?" I was angry now. "What do you want to do? Jason and I have nothing between us, just friends. On the other hand, you're clearly pursuing Lauren. Don't you think it's your responsibility to explain yourself?"
"Since the day you met me, you knew I was surrounded by women. Did you not consider this when you married me?" Charlie looked at me, his expression dark.
"So, I was born just to be your dog?" I laughed angrily, standing up to face Charlie. "As I said before, I don't want to please you anymore. You can chase after your Lauren, and I'll spend time with my friends. Is there a problem?"
With that, I took out a few documents from the drawer and laid them out in front of Charlie. Calmly, I said, "Here are three divorce agreements. One grants me a clean break, one gives me 3% ownership of the Bennett Group, and the other gives me 8%. Take a look and sign the one you find suitable."
There would probably never be a wife as considerate as me in this world. I prepared three different divorce agreements for him to choose from.
Unfortunately, Charlie didn't appreciate my thoughtfulness. Instead, his anger intensified. He tore the three divorce agreements to shreds and threw them into the trash bin. Then he took off his coat, tossed it onto the bed, and silently went to the window to smoke.
"Our issues should have been resolved a long time ago. Why do we keep dragging it out?" I sighed softly, looking at his back. "I've mentioned divorce several times already. If you agree, both of us will be free and happy."
He still didn't say a word, just chain-smoking in silence. His silent figure made me feel somewhat sad.
Jane didn't want to get married, Yolanda found an economically practical man, and Tina was fully dedicated to her career. They all knew that the so-called marriages in our circle were based on interests.
Do rich men not play around? It's difficult to find one who doesn't. Even if he's impotent by nature, he will find other ways to have fun.
So, it's impossible for men like Charlie to be faithful. When I got married, my mom asked me if I would regret it. At that time, I still had fantasies about this so-called love, so of course, I didn't regret it.
My dad has been living with my mom for nearly thirty years. How come I couldn't convince Charlie to grow old with me?
"It's my mom's birthday tomorrow. Come back with me." After a while, Charlie didn't answer my question but brought up another matter.
I know he still refuses to divorce, not because he loves me, but because he weighed the pros and cons and felt that the current benefits of our union were not worth giving up for Lauren.
"Okay," I nodded. Charlie has become quite restrained with his temper now. If I keep blabbering, it might provoke a storm. He's not in a rush for a divorce, so I won't rush either.
Any time he gives me problems; I'll bring up divorce. It's quite effective.
Charlie went to the bathroom to take a shower, and I breathed a sigh of relief. After changing into my pajamas, I lay on the bed playing with my phone. An hour ago, Lauren posted an update, a selfie, during her rehearsal, but she seemed quite down.
It must be because Charlie came back. That's why her mood isn't great. I was about to scroll down...
But she suddenly sent me a message: Is Mr. Bennett home?
I was surprised. Why was she talking to me about Charlie?
I replied, "Yes, he's home, taking a shower."
There was no response for a few minutes before she continued, "That's good. He's such a good man. His mother's birthday is tomorrow, and he needs to come back."
I wondered what role Lauren had in all this. She didn't even mention her relationship with Charlie and went straight into talking about these personal matters.
After thinking for a minute, I realized that Lauren must have thought I already knew everything, so there was no need for a showdown between the original and the mistress.
I quickly typed, "Yes, he's a filial man."
Lauren: You're really charming. I heard you and Jason went to the pet store today?
How did she know about that? Was Charlie not the only one present when my video went to Dylan, was Lauren also there? Why didn't he tell me?
I was unsure of how to respond when Lauren dropped another bombshell: I broke up with Jason because I felt he was different with you. Looking back, my decision was right.
