Chapter 60 Can't Understand Him Anymore
I have a feeling that Lauren has developed feelings for Charlie.
This is much faster than in the previous life. Could it be because I interfered?
I was about to like the post, but then I was worried that Lauren might have Charlie as a friend. If he saw that I had liked her post with ill intentions, he might come looking for trouble.
Forget it, they were destined to be together anyway. After putting my phone down, I settled Bubu and went back to my room to sleep. Before I could even enter the realm of dreams, Dylan unexpectedly sent me a video call.
I hesitated for a moment before answering the call. The screen showed a hotel room, with Dylan sitting on a wicker chair drinking coffee. When he saw me, he asked, "Where's Bubu? Is he behaving well? Are you able to take care of him?"
I truly didn't expect Dylan to have such a kind side. Bubu was like his obedient son, and he was like an old father.
And his question just now gave me an illusion that the two of us were like a couple, discussing how to take care of our child.
"He's doing fine, he’s quite well-behaved. He even goes to the bathroom by himself." I turned over and lay on the bed lazily as I answered.
"That's good. If it's convenient, take him to the pet store for a bath and some scheduled deworming in the next few days," Dylan casually instructed me through the small screen.
"Are you treating me like a nanny?" I glared at Dylan, trying to make myself look fierce.
Pointing at Dylan, I threatened, "If you don’t come back, I'll put your cat up for sale online, believe it or not!"
To my surprise, Dylan burst into laughter. He and Charlie were known for being aloof and rarely cracking smiles. But when they did, it had a captivating effect.
Fortunately, I had encountered my fair share of handsome men and had developed some resistance. So, after briefly admiring Dylan's good looks, I regained my composure and said, "What's so funny? I really will sell your cat."
"Go ahead, give it a try." Dylan seemed to underestimate me.
I rolled my eyes at him and retorted, "Fine, suit yourself. I'm going to sleep!"
"There's something I need to tell you." Dylan's tone turned a bit serious. "Charlie and Lauren are here too. Lauren followed the school band, and they have a performance here."
I remained silent for a few seconds before replying, "Okay, I got it."
After speaking, I ended the call, rolled over, and lay there, staring blankly at the dazzling crystal chandelier on the ceiling.
Why was it becoming harder for me to understand Charlie? It felt like I knew him better in my past life. He loved Lauren passionately, obsessively even. But now, I was beginning to feel confused.
It seemed like he liked Lauren, yet there were some changes between us. Just two nights ago, he was tender and affectionate, building a snowman for me. But today, he went to another city with Lauren.
When Lauren posted that tweet, Charlie must have been right there beside her. Suddenly, it all made sense. Lauren was intentionally showing it to me.
Was she special to Charlie? I should have an answer.
I slept poorly that night, and when I woke up the next day, my dark circles were alarming. The household staff couldn't help but express their concern when they saw me, but I just waved them off, not wanting to say anything.
The snowman outside still stood in the cold wind, its scarf somehow blown off and lying on the ground. I went out to put it back on, forcing a bitter smile as I touched its nose.
Just when I was feeling down, I received a phone call from Jane.
"Rose, my dad is crazy again!" Her loud voice made my eardrums vibrate.
"What?" I was taken aback.
"He actually wants me to go on a blind date!"
How could Jane accept a blind date?
She angrily vented to me, "There are so many single men out there. If I get married, how many suitors will be heartbroken? Who knows what harmful things they might do!"
I sighed, covering my forehead. Jane strongly disliked the idea of marriage. All she wanted was to be in love and not think about getting married. But at her age, her family was putting a lot of pressure on her, and she was starting to find it unbearable.
"Just go and pretend for a bit, just take a look. Didn't you go on blind dates before?" I tried to comfort the irritated Jane.
Jane protested, "I'm not going! That guy is bald. If they send him to a temple, there's no need to shave his head. He can become a monk right away!"
I couldn't help but laugh.
"Let's go out for sushi to cool down," Jane suggested.
"Sure, where do you want to go?" I asked.
"Jiro's. See you in half an hour," Jane said after giving me an address and then hung up the phone.
I went back to my room and grabbed a jacket before heading out.
When I arrived at Jiro’s Sushi, I realized Yolanda and Tina were also there. The restaurant was warm and cozy. I took off my jacket and placed it aside, then sat next to Jane.
"So, you're not going on the blind date with the monk?" I asked.
Jane was drinking lemon water. When she heard my question, she almost sprayed it out and burst into laughter, clutching her stomach. "Hahaha... Rose, I think the term 'monk' suits him so well, hahaha..."
Yolanda and Tina must have heard about the blind date incident because they burst into laughter at the nickname I randomly gave him.
After the laughter subsided, Jane wiped away her tears and gasped for breath. "I... I'm not going anymore. I told my dad that if I'm going to get married, it has to be to a handsome guy."
"Not only handsome but also from a respectable background," Yolanda added.
Since Arthur cheated on her, she has become incredibly rational. She no longer believes in passionate love stories. Marriage is about partnership, not charity.
"Of course. By the way, Arthur hasn't contacted you, right?" Tina asked.
Yolanda's smile faded, and she shook her head. Then she turned to me with a worried expression. "Rose, Arthur hasn't bothered me anymore. He's too scared. But I heard from a friend that he can't find a job anywhere now. He's struggling in New York, and I guess he's deeply affected. He blames you for everything and resents you for not telling him the truth..."
Before I could say anything, Jane started cursing, "Damn it, who does he think he is? He did such a thing, and yet he doesn't allow others to expose him? If he dares to touch Rose, I'll hire someone to teach him a lesson!"
"Calm down, aren't you a bit hot-tempered?" I quickly patted Jane's back to calm her down. She was loyal but easily got heated.
As soon as Jane heard my words, she quickly picked up a spoon and scooped a bowl of miso soup. After blowing on it, she drank it all in one breath.
When I recorded the video and took pictures of Arthur's infidelity, I had prepared myself for his resentment. So I wasn't surprised.
Although he doesn't have the same social status as me and it's not easy for him to harm me, desperate people can become irrational. Yolanda's words today served as a reminder, and I would be more cautious moving forward.
