Chapter 51 Foolish Man
Seeing that I still had no plans to confront Charlie, Dylan gave me a slightly displeased look, as if a teacher was looking at a poorly performing student.
I shrunk my neck back. I sought out Dylan just to have someone to talk to about my thoughts, to help me sort things out, not to be lectured.
"Let's eat!" The food arrived at that moment, and I immediately urged Dylan, while starting to eat without saying a word.
It seemed Dylan was irritated by my company. I lost my appetite and left without eating anything every time. It's such a waste to leave a table full of delicious dishes for me alone.
After packing up the leftovers, I drove home and asked Elizabeth to feed them to the chickens and ducks in the garden.
I must say, Elizabeth is quite skilled at raising chickens and ducks. The few chickens and ducks I brought back from my mother-in-law's place have grown plump and tasty under her attentive care.
I remembered Dylan's words, saying that it's a mercy from God if I can live to forty, and I also recalled how I died in my previous life.
Immediately, I instructed Elizabeth, "Elizabeth, let's stew the duck tomorrow!"
"Yes, ma'am," nodded Elizabeth.
I noticed that Elizabet’'s complexion seemed a bit off, as if she was worried about something. Was it because she found out about her daughter breaking up with her boyfriend? Or was it about the recent chemical plant relocation? I did’'t ask further and went to take a bath and rest.
Before sleeping, I contacted Yolanda. From her, I learned that Arthur is indeed wavering because the benefits and opportunities at the Bennett Group are excellent. If he could work at the Bennett Group's headquarters, his future prospects would be limitless!
“Encourage him more and let him resign as we discussed before,” I replied to Yolanda while applying a face mask.
"Alright, but Rose, how did the Bennett Group actually send Arthur a job invitation email? Did Charlie help?" Yolanda curiously asked.
"Hmm, he showed a little kindness for once," I casually answered.
Yolanda was extremely shocked. She knew how cold Charlie used to be toward me. It would be a miracle if he agreed to help me, let alone more than that.
I think it's because after my rebirth, I wasn't clinging to him as much, and he started to see me as a normal person, perhaps? The previous me was more like a lunatic.
After chatting for a while, we hung up the phone since we had work tomorrow and needed to rest early.
Fortunately, the secretary job isn't too exhausting. Charlie doesn't make things difficult for me at work, which is great. Because of his clear boundaries between work and personal matters, I am determined to work well and become an outstanding secretary.
During this time, I also learned that Arthur chose to resign and join the Bennett Group. He was assigned to the project department.
"Rose, Arthur said he wants to celebrate his job transfer to the Bennett Group by taking me out for dinner. What should I do?" Yolanda called me, sounding a bit annoyed.
She now despises Arthur to the core. The depth of her hatred matches the depth of her past love for him. If they meet, she might struggle to keep up her pretense.
However, I encouraged Yolanda to meet with Arthur and said, "Go and meet him. You can also tell him that you're pregnant. Isn't he the only son in his family? His parents are still urging you to have children. They must be eager to have grandchildren. When you tell him about it, he will definitely feel happy and delighted."
First, let Arthur ascend to heaven and then bring him down to hell!
Of course, I didn't expect that it was this action that made Yolanda witness the shamelessness and disgust of Arthur's parents once again.
Three days later, Yolanda contacted me again, her voice filled with restrained anger and a hint of suppressed sobbing.
She said, "Rose, do you know what Arthur's parents said? They said since my child is already here, we are one family now. In the future, anyone born will be part of Arthur's family, and even death will turn them into ghosts of Arthur's family.
“They suggested that we should just forget about the dowry. Whatever we take or give will eventually end up at their house. They even want my parents to prepare a set of rooms for the unborn child as a grand gift to welcome their future grandchild! It's so disgusting! I didn't know that all of them in his family are such despicable people!"
I felt nauseous listening to this. These people thought that since Yolanda is pregnant, there's no need to pretend anymore.
"Don't get angry. Let them dream!" I comforted Yolanda, "This way, they'll feel even more miserable in the future."
"Yeah, I know. That's why I've been holding back. I even told his mom that my dad has already bought us a house and a car. And when the child is born, we'll also buy rooms for them to make it more convenient for them to come and help take care of the child," Yolanda told me.
I suddenly felt elated and praised, "That's great!"
In such an angry situation, Yolanda could still hold back and even imagine a more tempting future for Arthur's family. It shows that this woman is remarkable!
After chatting for a while, we hung up and decided to end this plan in two days.
I didn't expect that before I could approach Arthur, he would contact me first. In his words and tone, he was full of gratitude for my referral. He said that if it weren't for me, he definitely wouldn't have been able to join the Bennett Group. Although Yolanda didn't directly say it to him, he understood it in his heart.
He was very astute in understanding social etiquette, but unfortunately, his character was so wicked.
I perfunctorily replied, "The Bennett Group must have seen your abilities, and that's why they reached out to you. Just do your best during the probationary period. As long as you don't commit any serious mistakes, you'll definitely be able to become a regular employee!"
In my heart, however, I thought that your serious mistake is about to come.
"Okay, thank you for your encouragement. I will definitely work hard. I'll treat you to a meal in the future!" Arthur said.
After hanging up the phone, I saw Charlie coming in. He gave me a glance, and I fearlessly met his gaze. "It's lunchtime now, not working hours. Is it inappropriate for me to make a personal call?"
"Go start the car, we'll be going to the Second Chemical Plant later," Charlie ignored my question and just grabbed a document from the desk and said to me.
Second Chemical Plant is the chemical plant near Lauren's house. I was startled, wondering if I should accompany him there. What if Lauren sees me? Who knows if she's studying diligently at school?
Charlie didn't know that Lauren already knows my identity, so he dared to bring me along. Even if we are seen, he can always explain that I'm his secretary. Silly man! I sighed inwardly and headed to the parking lot first.
After a few minutes, Charlie got in the car and sat in the back seat, giving me a faint command, "Let's go." I stepped on the gas pedal and drove away, causing Charlie's body to lean forward due to the inertia. In the rearview mirror, his complexion was not good. "Can you drive?" he asked.
"Mr. Bennett, I can." I sat up straight, speaking earnestly. "Don't worry, I will safely bring you to your destination."
"Rosalie, I think you really should have your head checked at a mental hospital." In the rearview mirror, Charlie's astonishingly handsome face revealed a hint of disdain.
