Chapter 49 Personal Secretary
I was grateful for Yolanda's rational and clear-mindedness, but also deeply heartbroken. Words of comfort seemed inadequate. The only thing I could do to help her was to make Arthur pay the price.
After a moment of silence, Yolanda spoke, "Alright, since he has betrayed me, I have no reason to hold onto the past. Rose, I will do as you say."
Yolanda and I stayed in the hospital room.
After discussing for a while, I learned some detailed information about Arthur. Arthur's family is of moderate means, and his hometown is in a backward county. However, he has always been diligent in studying since childhood, and his mind is quite sharp.
He was admitted to a good university and entered the current company after graduation. It is highly likely that he will be promoted soon.
For Arthur, his current job is important. It is the foundation for him to continue surviving in New York. If he loses this job, he may not be able to find a better one.
Yolanda also told me that Arthur's parents, in their early fifties, don't do anything at home and rely on the money Arthur sends back for their expenses.
Yolanda didn't really care about these things, as she has enough money herself. What's the problem with giving some money to her future in-laws?
Just as we finished our conversation, Jane and Tina came back.
"Mom!" When she saw her own mother, tears immediately welled up in Yolanda's eyes.
Yolanda's mother quickly went over, her eyes full of tenderness.
I then called Jane and Tina out of the ward, and told them about Yolanda's attitude and Arthur's situation.
In my heart, I had a rough plan, but I needed Charlie's help for it.
After returning from the hospital, I called Charlie.
"Charlie, can you do me a favor?" I directly asked.
"Say it." He also replied straightforwardly.
I asked Charlie to arrange for the company's HR to send Arthur a job invitation email offering extremely generous conditions. Basically, I just wanted to find a way to make Arthur quit.
As for Yolanda, I told her to come up with an excuse to avoid meeting Arthur for a while.
Charlie didn't know what I was up to. He heartlessly refused. After all, not just anyone can enter the Bennett Group's headquarters.
I shamelessly threatened, "If you don't agree, I'll go tell your parents about you chasing after a college girl!"
"Rosalie, do you want to die?" Charlie's previously indifferent voice immediately became angry.
"Just tell me if you agree or not. If you don't, I'll go say it right away!" I didn't care about anything else. I just wanted revenge for Yolanda.
"Let's talk when I get back." Charlie hung up the phone.
Half an hour later, Charlie came back. I was surprised that he specially came back to have a face-to-face conversation with me about this matter.
As soon as he entered the door, he asked, "Why do you insist on arranging a job for Arthur in the Bennett Group?"
I replied, "Who said I want him in the Bennett Group? Just send him an invitation email to make him quit his current company."
Charlie raised an eyebrow. "What trick are you playing again?"
Now that Yolanda had made up her mind to break up with Arthur, and I needed Charlie's help, I had to tell him everything about the situation.
After listening to my words, Charlie narrowed his eyes and asked, "The TV drama you mentioned last time, was it Yolanda who acted in it?"
"Acted? This is real!" I said impatiently, "If it wasn't for the Bennett Group being more enticing, I would have just gone to my parents for help."
Although Arthur was a scumbag, he was very stable and practical in his career, and wouldn't easily change jobs. The company that could tempt him must be very strong, strong enough to make him hesitate.
Moreover, the Bennett Group has several sectors in its industry, some of which are suitable for Arthur.
After pondering for a moment, Charlie agreed, "Hmm, alright."
He's still a decent person. I smiled, "Alright, don't worry. Even if you're pursuing a college student or a widow, I won't tell your parents!"
"Shut up." Charlie glared at me.
“Okay, okay.”
Since my purpose had already been achieved, I simply had a meal and went upstairs to rest.
Charlie didn't stay at home for long. Now that Lauren had broken up with Jason, it was the best time for him to pursue her.
Shortly after he left, I received another message from him: Report to the HR department tomorrow.
After reading his message, I remembered what I had said before about wanting to work at the Bennett Group. I didn't expect that he would actually arrange it for me. I just didn't know what position I would be assigned to.
But since Charlie was being proactive in helping, I didn't mind too much. The next day, I went straight to the Bennett Group to report for work.
The relationship between Charlie and I was not publicly known in the company, but people weren't foolish either. Whenever they searched for Charlie's information, they should have come across a few photos of us, although there were only a few.
So the HR staff in the personnel department were very polite to me. After guiding me to fill out the entry form and a series of information, they took me to Charlie's office.
I never dreamed that the position Charlie arranged for me was his personal secretary.
At this moment, Charlie was in a meeting room, and I sat in the secretary's seat, flipping through the secretary's manual.
Just then, Yolanda called. She said, "Rose, the Bennett Group really sent Arthur a job invitation email. He just messaged me about it."
"Good, this is just the first step. We must make him lose both his money and his love!" I was very satisfied with Charlie's efficiency.
"Yeah, I'm back home now. Come over to my place when you're free." Yolanda invited me.
"Sure, I'm currently working at the Bennett Group. Let me tell you, you would never guess what my job is now..." Before I could finish, Charlie appeared in front of me, towering over me.
I looked at him and silently hung up the phone.
It was working hours, and I shouldn't have made personal calls.
"Is one week enough for you to familiarize yourself with the job?" Charlie, seeing that I understood the situation, didn't make things difficult for me. Instead, he returned to his seat and handed me a cup, saying, "You don't need a week to familiarize yourself with something as simple as making coffee."
"I told you I wanted to learn something, and now you want me to make coffee for you?" I was a little angry.
"Don't you know that working closely with the boss can teach you a lot?" Charlie sounded reasonable.
I chuckled in frustration and walked over to take the cup from him, intentionally muttering, "Why don't you ask your college student to learn? She needs it more than I do!"
Charlie's face darkened whenever I mentioned Lauren.
Ignoring his displeased expression, I happily went to make a cup of coffee and handed it to Charlie.
Just as I sat back in my seat, I received a message from an unknown number: Mrs. Harrison, it's Lauren. Can we meet?
How did Lauren get my number?
I furrowed my eyebrows and replied: Okay, wait for me after work.
