Chapter 66 Delivery

Curiosity aside, I still didn't ask Charlie because he couldn't possibly tell me.

I fell into a drowsy sleep at some point. I didn't sleep well last night, and now all I wanted was to catch up on sleep.

When I woke up, I was no longer in the car, but on a bed. Looking at the surroundings, I realized it was Charlie's room.

I covered my forehead and couldn't remember how I ended up on the bed, but thankfully, Charlie came in at that moment. He asked, "Have you slept enough? If you're done sleeping, come down and have a meal. My mom and the others are all waiting for you."

"I'll get up right away!" I awkwardly replied.

Charlie then left the room.

Just then, my phone rang. It was a call from my mom, reminding me that today is my mother-in-law's birthday. She had already called my mother-in-law to express her wishes. My mom instructed me to try to make my mother-in-law happy today.

Usually, when it's our parents' birthdays, we simply send a text message, and it's up to us younger generation to handle gifts.

I readily agreed without telling my mom. Now my mother-in-law and the others were all downstairs waiting for me to have a meal, even though I had just woken up.

After hanging up the phone, I hurried downstairs. Just as I reached the dining room, I felt a strong urge to find a place to sit quickly.

With an impulse to crawl into a hole in the ground.

Except for Charlie, my father-in-law and mother-in-law, all of his relatives were present, filling up the long table.

When they saw me, everyone turned their gaze towards me.

Apart from the day of our wedding, I had never seen all of his relatives in one go like this.

"Rosalie, come here!" My elegantly dressed mother-in-law, in a red dress; had a gentle smile on her face and was not displeased with me for delaying the meal due to sleeping. She waved at me, leaving a seat next to Charlie for me.

My aunt and uncle also smiled at me. We didn't interact much usually, so we weren't very familiar with each other.

After quickly adjusting my thoughts, I put on a smile and greeted all the elders, everyone present was a distinguished person in the business world.

In my previous life, Charlie ruined my family, and these relatives helped him accomplish it.

Of course, I don't blame them. It wasn't them who forced Charlie to divorce me and marry Lauren. It was Charlie who forced them to help. Besides, Charlie and I didn't have any children. Anyone would choose to help their nephew in that situation.

I'm not foolish. If I were to show a hostile attitude and play mind games with them because of things that couldn't be changed in my previous life, it would only make them wary and disgusted with me.

They all responded to me, and I said to my mother-in-law, "Mom, the gift is still in the car. I'll go get it!"

"Charlie has already brought it down for you, and I've put it on!" My mother-in-law said with a joyful smile, then turned her head for me to see. A delicate hairpin made of emerald beads was inserted into her ancient European updo. Each bead was hollow and filled with precious spices, so whenever the hairpin moved slightly, a faint and elegant fragrance would be released.

Compared to the previous emerald, this hairpin was not considered valuable, but its elegant and graceful design and the refreshing fragrance made my mother-in-law naturally love it; otherwise, she wouldn't have immediately put it on.

"Mom, it looks so beautiful!" I sincerely praised.

My mother-in-law smiled even more happily, "You have good taste, my child. I love everything you buy for me. Come, sit and have your meal."

I nodded and quickly went to sit down.

Then my mother-in-law instructed the servants, "Serve the dishes."

Sixteen dishes were expertly brought out, each with great color, fragrance, and taste.

Keeping in mind my mission to gain weight, I ate while occasionally chatting with my mother-in-law, and also asked about my father-in-law's health, reminding him to remember to go for the annual physical examination.

While the other elders were chatting, whenever there was a topic I understood; I would add a few words of agreement when it was appropriate.

Charlie sat next to me, but he didn't say much.

After the meal, the servants cleared the table, while my father-in-law and mother-in-law stayed in the living room with the relatives, eating fruits and discussing some business matters. Auntie was playing with her grandson and jokingly said to my mother-in-law, "Charlie and Rosalie should have children too. Gregory is always so busy, having a grandchild at home will keep you fulfilled."

Gregory is my father-in-law.

My mother-in-law smiled and didn't say anything.

My mother-in-law glanced at me and then at Charlie, her eyes filled with blame. "I also want a grandson, but Charlie is disappointing. He's been a bit better recently, with fewer scandalous news. But remember how he used to be?"

I was drinking water and almost choked on it.

Charlie probably couldn't understand why he was considered disappointing. What's wrong with gossip news? He hasn't even fathered any illegitimate children.

My father-in-law agreed, "Yes, Rosalie has been married to him for five years, waiting for him at home every day, but he's never there. How can they have a child?"

"Charlie, you're not getting any younger. Don't you want to have a child?" my aunt asked.

Before Charlie could answer, his uncle interrupted, "Look at your cousin and his wife. Their second child is about to be born. If he hadn't accompanied your sister-in-law for her prenatal check-up today, he would have come as well."

His aunt chimed in, "That's right. Your parents only have you as their son. You can't stay childless, can you? Your younger cousin already has a girlfriend, ready to get married after graduation and have children. We've seen that girl, she's really good."

"Kris is in a relationship?" Suddenly, my mother-in-law became interested, and everyone started discussing the topic with great enthusiasm.

Since Charlie had just been criticized by his parents; he looked a bit annoyed. When the topic no longer involved him, he went outside to catch some fresh air.

I followed him outside. The living room was quite warm, and I was already feeling a little hot even in a thin sweater, so it was a good opportunity to cool down.

Neither of us spoke, silently gazing at the snow. Charlie lit a cigarette, turning his back to me as he smoked alone.

Soon, I started feeling cold and decided to go back to the living room. It was at this moment that Charlie's phone rang, and I had a strong intuition that it was Lauren calling.

Charlie never avoided answering Lauren's calls, but I couldn't be bothered to listen. I didn't want to feel upset after hearing it and have my mother-in-law notice something was wrong.

So, I quickly opened and closed the door, isolating his voice outside.

"Rosalie, come here for a moment," my mother-in-law said as she saw me return, then headed upstairs.

I hurriedly followed, feeling a bit anxious about what my mother-in-law wanted to talk to me about.

Once upstairs, my mother-in-law took my hand and spoke in a low voice, asking, "Rosalie, did Charlie really take the medicine I gave you last time?"

The medicine she referred to was similar to a male enhancement drug. But later, I had Elizabeth buy some different medication for me. The night Charlie took the medicine, its powerful effects became evident.
