Chapter 58 Building Snowmen With Me

I took the bag. Although the appearance of the fruits and vegetables couldn't compare to the ones sold in the market, they were clean and fresh. I had no aversion to them at all, and I even admired her and Isaac- one working as a housekeeper and the other being able to sustain themselves by growing their own produce.

"Thank you, Elizabeth. It wasn't your fault that you were unaware of this matter. Don't blame yourself," I replied gently.

"I know, madam, that you are kind-hearted. Max is impulsive and often stirs up trouble. This time is no exception. As his sister-in-law, besides coming to apologize for him, I can't be of much help," Elizabeth sighed.

It seems she still doesn't know about Charlie and Lauren, since she only mentioned Max.

Elizabeth and I chatted for a while longer, and I wanted to invite her for a meal, but she declined.

Before leaving, I casually asked, "Elizabeth, do you know any girls in their early twenties? I have a friend who's really nice but can't find a girlfriend. I don't know where to find one for him!"

"Madam, if you don't have any suitable candidates, how could I?" Elizabeth waved her hand.

"But Elizabeth, isn't your daughter a college student? She must have many friends. If she doesn't have a boyfriend, I really want to introduce my friend to her. He's truly a great guy." I looked regretful.

Elizabeth hesitated for a moment and then shook her head. "My daughter broke up with her boyfriend, but I heard there's someone pursuing her now, and she refuses to tell us who."

Was Lauren voluntarily sharing information with her family? I was surprised. Was it because she confronted her family in her past life, or did Charlie assert himself in front of them? I wasn't sure.

I became curious and asked, "Really? Elizabeth, your daughter must be exceptional, and the man pursuing her must be good. Don't worry."

"How can I not worry? Madam, when you have children, you'll realize that parents worry endlessly for their children, especially girls. I'm just afraid she'll choose the wrong person." Elizabeth's worried expression made me laugh involuntarily.

Elizabeth was shocked, not knowing what I found amusing, and just stared at me.

I quickly covered it up and said, "I'm just laughing because you're overthinking, Elizabeth. You're a person of great justice and kindness. Naturally, your daughter will be like you. The man she chooses will surely be outstanding."

I praised Elizabeth, knowing that whatever Lauren did next would make her doubt if it was really her daughter.

In reality, I was truly laughing at Elizabeth's concerns. What if my daughter chose the wrong person? What if they opposed it? In the end, it was all defeated by Charlie's money and sincerity.

I believed money played a big part. If it were an ordinary married man divorcing for Lauren, her parents would strongly object.

"You flatter me, madam!" Elizabeth felt somewhat embarrassed.

"Oh, by the way, I've always heard about your daughter from you. I'm curious to see what kind of girl she is. Can you show me a photo?" I asked, pretending to be curious.

Elizabeth took out her phone and showed me a family photo. After taking a look, I couldn't help but show a surprised expression. "Elizabeth, so your daughter is Lauren!"

Elizabeth was also surprised. "Madam, you know my daughter?"

She never told me her daughter's name.

I nodded. "Yes, she used to work at the cafe where I had coffee. We met there, and later, I accidentally bumped into her boyfriend. We met again at the hospital. In the end, the three of us became acquainted."

"What a coincidence! It's really fate! I'm so happy. It's Lauren's good fortune to have a friend like Madam!" she said with a smile.

"Elizabeth, next time I'll invite you and Lauren to have dinner together!" I said enthusiastically.

"Why should you treat us? If you don't mind, come to my place for a meal in the future!" Elizabeth replied.

"Great, I'll come in a couple of days. I hope you won't mind!" I couldn't wait to visit their small home and meet Charlie's future in-laws.

Elizabeth readily agreed. So far, I could tell she genuinely liked me.

After Elizabeth left, the smile on my face disappeared, and I felt as if the world was truly surreal.

I didn't leave the house all day because Charlie had informed me that I would resume work in a few days. In the meantime, I should rest at home, and my salary would continue.

Money wasn't a problem for me, but I was touched by his generosity in offering me this benefit.

In the evening, snowflakes started falling again. Today's snowfall was heavy, gracefully covering the entire world in a silvery white, like a frozen wonderland.

Charlie, with snow clinging to his coat, pushed open the door against the biting cold wind. A servant immediately approached and brushed off the snow before taking the coat away. Charlie then changed into slippers and came and sat next to me.

At that moment, I caught a whiff of a somewhat familiar perfume scent.

When I went on a trip previously, I had brought a bottle of perfume for Elizabeth, and this scent happened to be the same. Occasionally, I would catch a whiff of it on other servants too, so it was somewhat familiar.

Charlie didn't usually wear perfume, nor did he pay attention to such things, so he didn't notice the difference in his scent now.

I knew he had just returned from Lauren's place, and Elizabeth probably gave that bottle of perfume to her daughter.

Could it be that Elizabeth didn't tell Lauren that I was the one who gave it to her? She didn't even show any dislike for it? She actually sprayed that perfume to meet Charlie.

"Is dinner not ready yet?" Charlie glanced in the direction of the dining room.

"It's almost ready. Why didn't you eat outside?" I held a bowl of chicken soup, blowing on it lightly, and asked.

Whether it was socializing or having dinner with Lauren, it was more typical to eat out than to come home for dinner.

Charlie gave me a glance. His dark pupils revealed no emotions. "I don't feel like eating out."

"Oh," I nodded and picked up the spoon to sip the chicken soup rather ungracefully.

Charlie seemed to be watching me, but when I looked at him, he would lower his head to look at his phone.

After a while, the servant informed us that the meal was ready, and I leisurely walked to the living room. Charlie also took a seat across from me, and we silently ate our meal.

"Are you going out tonight?" After finishing the meal, I broke the silence.

"No, I’m not going out, why?" Charlie glanced at me.

"Come and make a snowman with me!" I playfully shouted at him. "Your mom's birthday is coming up. If you build a snowman with me, I'll accompany you home and make her happy by acting."

Charlie's face darkened. "Rosalie, where did you learn to threaten people like that?"

In my heart, I murmured, "Didn’t I learn from you? In my previous life, you used countless manipulative tactics to coerce and entice me into getting a divorce. How is this any different?"

But on the surface, I remained calm. "Do I need to learn? Just tell me if you'll accompany me or not!"

This was one of my obsessions. I had once seen pictures of Charlie and Lauren playing and laughing in the snow on Dylan's phone. It was romantic and sweet.

Of course, that was in my previous life. Even if we still end up divorcing, I want to experience that joy in my heart before it happens.
