Chapter 53 Charlie Harms Me
"Mom, don't worry. What if I become a business prodigy in the future?" I didn't know if I was comforting my mom or myself.
In any case, my mom laughed along. She said, "No matter what you decide, your dad and I will support you. You are our only child, and your happiness is what matters the most."
Was I foolish in my previous life? I had such great parents and a prosperous financial foundation, yet I stubbornly clung to Charlie and ended up in such a pitiful state. If my head didn't temporarily limit my movement, I would have given my mom a big hug.
After my mom stayed with me for a while, she said she would go home and make pudding for me. I really missed my mom's cooking, so I eagerly agreed. After she left, Jane, Tina, and Yolanda hurried over.
Looking at my head, everyone felt sorry for me. The look of bandages made them feel concerned. "Rose, how are you feeling? Is your head still hurting? Who was the jerk that hit you? I'm going to get back at him for you!" Jane asked with concern.
"How long until you can leave the hospital?" Tina inquired.
Listening to their voices, I felt grateful. Even though I was injured, having these people who loved and cared for me made life truly beautiful.
"I'm fine, it’s just a concussion. I'm still working at the Bennett Group, right? I accompanied Charlie to discuss the relocation of the Second Chemical Plant near a residential area. I guess that representative and Charlie couldn't come to an agreement, so someone took it out on me," I explained what had happened.
Jane put some nutritional supplements on the counter and began venting, "Damn it, is Charlie causing you trouble? You used to please him so much, and now that you don't, look what happened! I think you should divorce him!"
Tina raised her hands in agreement. "Yeah, I've heard that if two people's zodiac signs don't match, they will harm each other. Whoever has better luck will have the upper hand."
"Well, Charlie has good luck," I sighed and then quickly asked Yolanda, "Yolanda, why are you here? Did you go to the Bennett Group?"
Yolanda shook her head. "I didn't go. I sent my mom instead."
I was initially taken aback, but then I showed admiration. What a clever move!
Originally, the plan was for Yolanda to make a scene at the Bennett Group, presenting the evidence I had taken and accusing Arthur of cheating.
This would have a very detrimental impact on the company, and the Bennett Group would fire Arthur during his probation period. That way, Arthur would end up with nothing.
But Yolanda's choice to send her parents instead was even better.
Yolanda said angrily, "After my mom made a scene, Arthur had the audacity to call me and say a lot of things!"
"What did he say? How did you respond?" I curiously asked.
"He said he was wrong and hoped I would forgive him and stuff like that, that scumbag!" Yolanda replied.
"Then I told him that I loved him very much and was willing to forgive him. I even have some personal savings that I could use to go back to his hometown with him to start a new life. But my parents threatened with their lives, forcing me to break up with him. I had no choice."
As soon as Yolanda finished speaking, Jane, Tina, and I burst into laughter. She was really impressive.
This way, Arthur wouldn't even have a reason to cause a scene. His standards for finding a new girlfriend will be high. Where else can he find a rich woman who loves him? He will always remember how good Yolanda was to him, but he didn't cherish it and ended up losing everything.
The three of them stayed and chatted with me for a long time before leaving. Feeling bored, I found a mobile game to play, but as the later levels proved difficult, I gradually became frustrated. "This is making me so angry!"
After failing twelve times, I thought of smashing my phone.
"Did your phone provoke you?" Dylan appeared at the door, wearing a white coat and a mask, revealing a pair of beautiful eyes and eyebrows, looking cool and handsome.
Seeing him, my anger diminished by half. I gently placed my phone down and said, "No, I was just stretching."
Dylan hummed lightly, clearly not convinced by my explanation.
He walked in, looked at the pile of nutritional supplements on the counter, and flipped through them. There was honey and wolfberries, and when he saw the vodka, his eyebrows furrowed. "Gift from Jane?"
Other than her, I couldn't think of anyone else who would send both supplements and vodka.
I never bothered to check what these supplements were for and couldn't turn my head too much, so I could only casually nod and say, "Yes, it's from her."
Dylan wordlessly put down the gift box and asked, "How did you get injured?"
I explained for the third time how I got injured.
But I explained it in more detail to Dylan, like how Lauren lived near the Second Chemical Plant and Isaac, the man negotiating with Charlie, was her father.
"Do you think he went to negotiate today because Lauren approached him?" Dylan asked again.
"Otherwise, why?" I retorted. "Don't you think this is a perfect opportunity for Charlie to conquer Lauren? He set the trap, and he will break it. If I were Lauren, I would be captivated!"
It was true. If I were Lauren, I wouldn't be able to resist a rich and handsome man, someone who would shower me with money, willingly give everything to me, and even divorce his current wife in a political-business union just for me. As long as I wasn't stupid, I would definitely agree.
Every time Dylan saw me looking so relieved about Charlie, a trace of doubt would flash in his eyes.
"You're not Lauren." He suddenly bent down and gently tapped the bandage on my head with his finger, seemingly appreciating it. "Not bad. You look so thin, almost malnourished. I didn't expect you to withstand a hit."
I didn't understand what he meant.
"With a mild concussion, most people would experience some routine symptoms, such as dizziness, vomiting, and retrograde amnesia. Severe cases may also have temporary hemiplegia or convulsions, but you only lost consciousness for a moment," Dylan explained.
I truly appreciated him, so was he here to see if I had suffered that badly?
Just as the two of us were chatting, Charlie unexpectedly arrived again. When he saw Dylan chatting with me by the bedside, his face showed a barely noticeable displeasure.
"You're here," Dylan calmly greeted Charlie as he left. "I'll go take care of some things."
"Okay," Charlie replied nonchalantly, looking at Dylan's departure before putting down the food he brought. "What were you chatting about? Your bad heart?"
My mind went blank. "My heart is bad?"
The next second, I saw Charlie's face quickly darken, and his eyes became sharp.
"Come on, is your heart okay?" I felt a wave of panic. Dylan must have told Charlie about my heart condition, so I used it as an excuse to discuss my health and cover up our previous encounters.
"It's alright, I just didn't rest well before. Occasionally, I feel some chest pain. I thought it was a heart problem. I asked Dylan about it several times!" I quickly fabricated a lie.
