Chapter 65 Failure

Jason did treat me differently; I could feel it.

Perhaps it's easier to touch the heart of a young boy, and they tend to take things more seriously.

I suddenly felt guilty. What if Jason's feelings for me grew deeper? Honestly, I didn't like his type of guy and couldn't give him the response he wanted.

I was just using his identity to balance my inner emotions. If he was willing to play along and pass the time, I might consider it. But if he wanted something real, I could never accept it.

As I was lost in thought, Charlie had finished his shower and returned. He was wearing a black bathrobe, revealing his well-defined chest muscles, exuding a strong and sexy presence.

I averted my gaze, slipped my phone under the pillow, and pretended to sleep.

After a while, I felt the soft mattress sink as Charlie lay down beside me. His body carried the mixed scent of shower gel and shampoo, a fragrance I liked.

"Why aren't you sleeping in the guest room now?" I asked, still facing away, pretending to sleep.

"The master bedroom is mine too," Charlie replied coldly.

"Then why are you using my bathroom? And my shower gel and shampoo?" I turned around and glared at him. "Didn't you say you hated that scent before?"

Once a woman's mind stops working, the questions she asks become trickier.

Charlie's face, so close to me, remained perfect. Even the curve of his frown was just right. He turned to look at me, and his thin lips moved, "Rosalie, would you like to hear what you're saying?"

After a moment of staring into each other's eyes, he left me deflated. I turned over and continued to pretend sleeping. "Never mind, I forgive you."

But the next second, he grabbed my shoulder, not politely, and pulled me closer.

I turned my body around, and almost had my thin layer of flesh crushed by Charlie's grip.

I cried out in pain, tears streaming down my face. "Ouch, Charlie! What are you doing?!"

In Charlie's dark eyes, a flame of desire burned. He glanced at my face, his gaze finally resting on my lips. Before I realized what was happening, he fiercely bit down, silencing the words I wanted to say and swallowing them.

His kiss left me breathless, and just when my lips began to ache, Charlie released me.

There was a trace of blood on the corner of his lips, which he casually wiped away with his hand.

"Have you contracted rabies, Charlie?!" I touched my still stinging lips and discovered blood. Immediately, anger welled up inside me, and I tried to hit him with my hand.

But my hand was grabbed, rendering me immobile.

Charlie firmly and resolutely sealed my injured lips once again, preventing any foul language from escaping.

The two of us engaged in a strange and contradictory struggle on the bed for a long time. I wanted to refuse him, but his domineering and forceful teasing always made my heart race. He wanted to be gentle, but as soon as I resisted, he would angrily suppress me in various ways.

Eventually, I was drenched in sweat, and Charlie had already discarded his robe, revealing his muscular back covered in beads of perspiration.

He got up from the bed, took a glance at the disorderly sheets and pillows, and then went out to the balcony shirtless, where the snow was falling and the cold wind blew. He lit a cigarette.

I wiped my damp hair and exhaled. Under my breath, I cursed, "You damn bastard, freeze to death!"

Today, I was extraordinary. With my frail figure, I successfully resisted Charlie's advances, although there wasn't a single piece of decent skin left on my body. At least I held onto my bottom line.

At this moment, Charlie finished smoking and turned to close the door. A flicker of determination appeared in his eyes, while a faint smile lingered on his lips. "Come on, let's continue."

"Go to hell!" I grabbed a pillow and hurled it at Charlie. He deftly caught it and threw it to the ground, then took a few steps toward the bed, leaned over, and grabbed my hands, preventing me from throwing anything else.

"How come I didn't know you enjoyed cursing so much before?" After Charlie finished speaking, he didn't give me any chance to resist.

Three minutes later, I declared my failure in my heart.

We had agreed not to stay up late, but whenever Charlie's animalistic instincts took over, I couldn't go to bed early and wake up feeling refreshed.

Unfortunately, the next day was my mother-in-law's birthday, so I had to force myself to get up, despite my crumbling body. As I sat in front of the vanity mirror after taking a shower, I was startled by the reflection of myself.

A pale face with lifeless eyes, surrounded by dark circles. My neck was covered in hickeys and bruising, making it seem as if I had been a long-term victim of abuse and domestic violence.

Charlie came in, dressed impeccably and exuding his usual noble demeanor.

"Change your clothes and come downstairs. After breakfast, we'll leave," Charlie, the epitome of nonchalance, behaved as if the one who had ravaged me last night wasn't him. He effortlessly reverted back to the familiar stranger he had always been.

I didn't want to acknowledge this person.

But still, I got up and went to the closet to find clothes.

My father-in-law and mother-in-law like a daughter-in-law who is generous, elegant, and dignified. So, I chose the safest option, a white coat with an apricot-colored turtleneck sweater and pants. It was simple and refined and could also cover up my unsightly neck.

Then I carefully put on makeup to hide the exhaustion on my face and make myself look better.

Finally, I took out the birthday gift I had prepared long ago and went downstairs. Charlie was already having breakfast there, and when he saw me coming down, the servant brought out a steaming breakfast for me.

After finishing breakfast, Charlie and I left together. As we passed by the snowman, he asked me, "Why did you only put a nose on it and not eyes?"

"I did put them on, but I was feeling annoyed and plucked them off." I didn't know why I was in a bad mood, maybe because my legs were still sore and Charlie looked energetic, making me feel frustrated. So, I suddenly took off the snowman's nose again and threw it into the snow, giving Charlie a glare.

Charlie didn't react to my actions. In the past, he would have thought I was trying to get his attention again and felt annoyed. He even picked up the carrot and put it back on the snowman.

The champagne-colored Muse outside the door was already covered in a thick layer of snow. Dealing with it temporarily would be too troublesome, so Charlie called the driver to take care of it and then went to the underground garage to bring out another car. After waiting for a while in the icy snow, the car slowly stopped next to me.

I opened the passenger door and got in, ready to go to my mother-in-law's house.

As we passed by the area near the Second Chemical Plant, I saw that the old neighborhood where Lauren lived had been demolished. There was dust flying everywhere, constant digging sounds, and rumbling noises.

Where did Lauren and the others move to? I was curious because Elizabeth had invited me to her house for a meal, and I really remembered it and planned to go when I had the time.
