Chapter 54 I Know It All

Charlie sneered coldly, "Is that so? How come I didn't know you had such poor health before?"

"Have you ever really understood me before?" I suddenly regained my confidence and looked at Charlie disdainfully.

Fortunately, I successfully shifted the topic away.

I remembered that jerk who hit me on the head with a stick and asked, "Did you report the incident after I was assaulted?"

"I did. The person is currently at the police station." Charlie opened the lunchbox, revealing the delicious aroma of braised chicken with abalone sauce. "This was made by Elizabeth from home."

No wonder it tasted familiar. I took the lunchbox and started eating.

While I was eating, Charlie spoke up, "I fired Elizabeth, and she'll be leaving tomorrow."

My chopsticks almost dropped from my hand, but I remained calm and didn't turn my head to avoid worsening my injuries. I just widened my eyes and asked, "Why?"

"The person who attacked you today, Max, is Elizabeth's relative. It's not appropriate for her to stay at home," Charlie explained in a casual tone.

But I was shaken internally. Did Charlie know about Elizabeth being Lauren's mother? Since he investigated Max, he must have looked into Lauren's family as well, making it easy for him to find out who Elizabeth really is.

I had originally planned to keep Elizabeth at home for a while, but since Charlie took care of it, I let it go.

"Oh, I understand now." After calming myself, I continued eating.

While eating, I sneakily watched Charlie out of the corner of my eye. Did he suspect that I actually knew Lauren since he knew Elizabeth was working at my house as a maid?

Charlie sat beside me, constantly replying to various messages on his phone without stopping. I thought about how my mom's pudding must be almost ready and said to him, "Thank you for bringing me food today. You're so busy, you should leave!"

"Alright." Charlie gracefully got up and left.

I scoffed. If he was so eager to leave, why bother bringing food?

Just as Charlie left, my mom arrived. Even though I was already half-full from eating, when faced with the temptation of pudding, my stomach couldn’t resist and I ate some more.

My mom wanted to stay and keep me company tonight, but I refused. I couldn't move my head, but I still had control over my limbs.

After repeatedly rejecting her, my mom had no choice but to go rest. After the nurse finished her rounds and gave me an injection, I prepared myself for a good sleep.

Just as I was dozing off, my phone rang. Thankfully, I was in a private room, otherwise it would've been too noisy.

It's annoying to be loud and disturb others.

"Hello?" Without looking at the caller ID, I lazily answered the phone with narrowed eyes and asked, "Who is it?"

"Mrs. Harrison, it's me." Lauren's voice came through gently and softly, with a hint of uneasiness. "Are you asleep?"

I immediately became more awake, and my voice became clearer. "Lauren, I haven't slept yet. What's the matter?"

"Mrs. Harrison, I heard that my uncle injured you today, and you were hospitalized, so I wanted to apologize on his behalf. I'm sorry." Lauren's tone was sincere, and I could tell it was a genuine apology.

I smiled and said, "So that person is your uncle? What a coincidence. I went over there today because of work, but I didn't expect something like this to happen."

Lauren replied, "Yes, Mrs. Harrison, it seems like we have a lot of fate. I only found out today that my mother used to work as a maid in your house, but she was dismissed."

It seemed like she knew quite a bit, and I felt a little disappointed as I didn't hear the words I wanted to hear.

Since Lauren knows about her uncle injuring me and her mother working as a maid in my house, does she not know that Charlie is my husband?

I followed Charlie to the Second Chemical Plant, and he also dismissed Elizabeth.

"It was my husband who dismissed her. I'm sorry. After what happened today, he was quite angry," I said with a hint of a smile.

After hearing my words, Lauren fell silent for a while. When she spoke again, her voice sounded a little awkward. "I know, Mrs. Harrison. Please take care."

"Okay." I hung up the phone.

That night, I slept a bit uncomfortably. Maybe it was because of the head injury, as I kept dreaming of fragmented images, mostly revolving around the love and hatred from my previous life. It almost made me believe that my condition had worsened when I woke up the next day.

The time on my phone showed that it was half past eight in the morning. I thought the first person I would see today would be my mother, but Charlie came again.

He placed chicken soup and porridge next to me, opened them following the same steps as yesterday, and then handed them to me.

I was confused at this moment, not understanding what he was doing.

"Charlie, what are you doing?" I took the porridge and asked in disbelief, "Isn't the company busy? Or have you already won over a college girl?"

If it continues like this, the media will soon report that Mr. Bennett is not working and preparing to return to family life.

Charlie glared at me, his eyes piercing. I pretended not to see and lowered my head to drink the soup.

"Rosalie!" He pulled over a chair and sat down beside the bed calmly. "You've known her for a long time, and you've known that Elizabeth is her mother, right?"

I stopped eating my porridge. Finally, he knows.

Since that's the case, let's be open and honest. After all, my ultimate goal is not to save this marriage.

I dabbed at the corner of my mouth and replied nonchalantly, "Yeah, I've known for a while. I just didn't think it would mean anything if I said it. Will you give up on Lauren just because I know?"

Charlie stared at me in silence.

"Do you remember the coffee shop called 'Meeting'? She used to work there part-time. I met her when I went there for coffee. Just so you know, I also know her boyfriend. We even had meals together. He treated her well until you broke them up.

“As for Elizabeth, I didn't specifically choose her. It was the domestic help agency that happened to recommend her to me. I just kept her. Only during idle chats did I find out she's Lauren's mother," I calmly explained.

When I mentioned Lauren's boyfriend, Charlie's face darkened slightly.

Not only did I show no fear, but I also dared to ask him back, "Why are you only questioning me? Lauren should also know about our relationship, yet she still invited me to meet, discussing her breakup without saying a word about you pursuing her. What do you think that means? Why don't you go ask her?"

As soon as I finished speaking, Charlie actually curved his lips, appearing to smile. But I felt a more terrifying anger than when his face became gloomy. His voice remained calm, "So you're saying I've been played by you two?"

I knew he was pursuing Lauren, I kept Lauren's mother by his side as a maid, and I had meals with Lauren's ex-boyfriend. Lauren also knew about his marriage to me but didn't tell him.

With Charlie's temperament, he would definitely be angry.
