Chapter 14 Persuading Him to Divorce

Dylan looked at me with slight surprise. We never even greeted each other before, let alone having a meal together. But he understood the significance of the Bennett family and the Harrison family's relationship, especially when it involved his best friend's marriage.

So, after a moment of thought, he agreed, "Alright, tonight. I'm free tonight."

"Great! I know a coffee shop. They serve amazing coffee, and the atmosphere is comfortable and quiet, perfect for a conversation. Let me send you the location via Whatsapp." I eagerly took out my phone and opened the friend invitation, placing it in front of Dylan.

Dylan glanced at it and then handed me a pen. "Don't add me; write it on paper."

What kind of person is he? A caveman? I looked at him with a speechless expression, then wrote down the address of the Meeting Cafe on the paper.

"Let's meet there at 8:30 tonight."

I happily put down the pen with a smile and left.

At 8:00 in the evening, Dylan would be at the Meeting Cafe, not meeting me, but meeting Lauren.

With this anticipation, I was excited throughout the whole day, eagerly looking forward to the moment when Dylan would meet Lauren. I decided to dress up and witness this historic moment with my own eyes.

Charlie and Dylan truly were good brothers, even liking the same woman. I wondered if Dylan fell in love with Lauren at first sight or if his feelings developed over time.

If it wasn't love at first sight, then tonight might be disappointing.

I changed into loose black clothes and even wore a wig. At around 8:00 in the evening, I set off for the Meeting Cafe alone.

I didn't enter the coffee shop but instead peered through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Sure enough, Dylan was already sitting in a corner seat. Wasn't that my favorite spot before?

He was wearing a simple white t-shirt, and his hair was styled differently. He looked several years younger, exuding a cool and distant aura as he quietly sat there, drinking coffee without even touching his phone.

And where was Lauren? I scanned the bar area, searching for her figure.

After searching for a while, I still couldn't find her.

Unfortunately, I caught Dylan's attention as I carried out my awkward act. When he saw me, he got up and walked toward me. I wanted to run but felt it wouldn't be appropriate.

"Rosalie, have you lost your mind?" Dylan greeted me with a hint of mockery.

"At the very least, you're a doctor. Can't you speak with some decency?" I asked, puzzled, while taking off my wig. It was really hot.

"You invited me here to talk, yet you wear a wig and refuse to go in. What's the meaning behind that?" Dylan furrowed his brows and asked.

I confidently responded, "Am I not here? I was just making sure you were inside."

Dylan didn't waste time with small talk. He pushed open the door of the cafe and ordered me, "Go in."

Reluctantly, I walked in, holding the wig. As I passed the operating table, I carefully scanned the area again, but there was really no sign of Lauren.

I asked another girl, "Where's Lauren?"

"She's off today!" the girl replied.

My face instantly fell, and all the anticipation in my heart turned into emptiness. Sulkily, I sat down with Dylan and, out of habit, ordered a cup of black coffee, drinking it silently.

Dylan stared at me. "Weren't we supposed to discuss your situation with Charlie?"

I shrugged, "I don't want to talk about it anymore. I invited you to have a cup of coffee. Go back and rest early."

As soon as I finished speaking, I felt the cold aura emanating from Dylan. His gaze was sharp, comparable to Charlie's.

"You're fooling me?" he asked coldly.

"I'm not. I just suddenly feel like there's nothing left to say between Charlie and me. Don't you all know that I've been infatuated with him for many years? He doesn't like me, he never did, and he never will. So what's there to talk about?" I answered unhappily. "If you really want to help me, go persuade him to get a divorce with me!"

Dylan stared at me for a moment, seemingly evaluating how much of what I said was true and how much was false.

Feeling uneasy under his gaze, I pretended to drink my coffee.

"An alliance between families is not as simple as an ordinary person getting married. You shouldn't need me to tell you that," Dylan finally spoke. "Until something significant happens, you won't be able to leave each other. Charlie won't agree."

"You really understand him. He said the same thing," I sighed. "True friends indeed."

Dylan remained silent, only taking a sip of his coffee.

I didn't want to chat with him anymore. With Lauren absent again, I, a supporting character, didn't require so much screen time with the protagonist.

Silently, we drank coffee together for three minutes before I got up to pay the bill.

"Allow me." Dylan got up and politely stopped me.

"Alright." I didn't hesitate. This amount of money meant nothing to Dylan.

While Dylan settled the bill, I swiftly left the cafe and drove away. As I turned at the intersection, I saw him in the rearview mirror, staring in the direction my car was heading.

I shook my head and sighed to myself. Dylan was destined to always be one step behind Charlie. I did my part.

He failed twice, twice in a row.

The bond between Charlie and Lauren is definitely unbreakable. I feel like persuading Dylan again would be a waste of time.

I might as well take a break. It's just ten days, after all. I can wait.

As I expected, Charlie didn't come back for the next week. We returned to our previous state, no contact, no meetings.

I enjoyed my freedom, had time to do my own things. When Jason was discharged from the hospital, I went to pick him up, treated him and Lauren to a meal, and then I focused on practicing the cello.

I needed to pick up my skills that had been neglected for years. I drank the medicinal soup three times a day and, to my surprise, along with Elizabeth's cooking, I actually gained two pounds.

"Rose, have you taken some sort of elixir? Your complexion is so good, rosy, and fair!" Jane pinched my cheeks and asked at the party.

"I'm drinking medicinal soups to regulate my body. I'm also eating more, and gaining weight has had some effect," I replied happily.

Yolanda exclaimed angrily, "While we're all trying to lose weight, you, on the other hand, are purposely using medicinal soups to gain weight?"

Tina patted Yolanda's comfortably big butt. "That's called happy weight. Be content!"

Yolanda's boyfriend was good at cooking, and he certainly treated her well.

Yolanda swung her head proudly and said, "Jealous, huh? This is the benefit of finding a faithful man!"

Although her boyfriend's family background wasn't as good as hers, luckily he was a decent person, talented, honest, and gentle. So her family didn't object.

"Yolanda, if you have any suitable commercial performances next time, take me with you." Suddenly, I remembered this matter. Staying at home was too boring. I wanted to develop my career!
